Should I be doing this? Mexico and Dr. Zapata
buchannon replied to buchannon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ahh I forgot all about this post. I ended up going with the sleeve (through Dr. Zapata) about 5 months ago and am SO HAPPY I went with that over the band. I know some people are successful with the band but it definitely wasn't right for me. Anyway - things are going amazingly, I only have about 10-15 more lbs to lose to get to my goal. -
Wooo well I completed my half marathon last weekend. I ended up having to walk some between miles 12 and 13, but I was just happy that I hobbled in through the finish line!
-
FINALLY!!!! I weigh every Thursday, 198 this morning. I haven't been under 200 lbs in... many many years! How exciting!

My mom is considering getting a band to sleeve revision done but she is still on the fence because she is afraid. I wrote her this email about my experience and I was thinking it could help others on here as well.

I love my zumba class, great exercise and a lot of fun!

Ah weird I just saw this. I'm currently training for a half marathon that's coming up in the future. I started with a C25K program that was awesome, I would recommend using these podcasts. She has good music, and has it all split into weeks so all you have to do is listen and run when she says to. http://chubbyjones.libsyn.com/category/podcasts Currently, I'm doing 35 minutes running (about 4 miles) a couple times a week and feel great. Definitely get in your Protein and stretch! I can't believe I'm going to run 13 miles, crazy!

CONGRATS!! I'm SO close to that point, I've been at 205 these last couple weeks. I haven't been under 200 in years!!!!

Bread? Will it always be toasted?
buchannon replied to daezeey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never been much a bread person, but I'm able to eat sammiches slowly (about 4 months out here). It takes me about 30-60 minutes to finish half a sammich, then I'll save the other half for another day. There are definitely easier things to get down but sometimes I just crave something with bread. -
When Can I have COFFEE!!!
buchannon replied to NJMOMof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was told that coffee is fine since post-op day 1 here. I think I had my first cup around day 4 and didn't have any problems. I drink it black and obviously had to take it slowly at first. People get told different things and the truth of the matter is that a sip isn't going to hurt/kill you. If you want to try it that badly, I'd say go for it (slowly) and see how your body reacts. -

Can overeating one time stretch out your sleeve?
buchannon replied to Shanny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agreed! I remember my first time overeating was at a bar/grill. We ordered some of these good cheese bacon french fries and I maybe had 7-10 of them. Everything felt fine until it sunk in that I had ate too much. I had to run to the bathroom because this frothy regurgitation junk was coming up. It was super uncomfortable too - but at least at that point I knew what it feels like to overeat and that I didn't want to get to that point again. And yeah - I'll be seriously surprised if I'll be able to eat an entire whopper in less than 2 hours. -
I eat spicy food like crazy and really don't have a problem with it. For me, eating post-op is pretty much like eating pre-op but obviously less volume. I had some chips and seriously hot salsa last night no problems. I smiled with I put the bag of chips away and it was still 90% full instead of completely empty.

Things people say...
buchannon replied to BlueOctoberGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a ****... I'm sorry you had to sit there and listen to that. Is this woman overweight herself? I haven't really come across anything negative other than jealousy. If someone said that to me I'd probably shrug and tell them "welcome to 2011, weight loss surgery is a very viable option. Sorry you are such an old fart." -
Wow, I never thought I'd be saying this, but lately I've been choosing healthier foods compared to junk foods because I want to stay healthy. There just isn't enough room in my stomach for bad and good foods, and I will reach for a protein bar over potato chips now because it makes me feel better. There it is, small short and to the point. Go sleeve go!

Another benefit of the sleeve! If I'm taking my PPI and drinking enough water, food really doesn't interest me too much. I love it!

changing sizes......
buchannon replied to italianmama41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been up and down in weight so many times that I own a wide variety of sizes currently. Post-op, I started throwing away clothes that are too big for me now (yay!) as I feel I'll never need them again. I'm just now starting to get to the point where even my "skinny phase clothes" are becoming baggy and I'll have to shop for new stuff soon. -
I think I'm doing this wrong.
buchannon replied to MustangAli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This ---^ I don't do so well at staying away from Snacks on the weekends, but during the week I just have a Water bottle on my desk that I sip out of whenever I want. This helps SO MUCH in controlling my appetite and head hunger! -
What does full feel like?
buchannon replied to MissyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also get that "need to burp" feeling and know it's time to stop. I just go slow and listen to my body now, something I wish I could have done pre-op. If I eat too fast (especially something that is harder to get down post-op like chicken) I do burp (not really burp, but more like regurgitate) up some frothy disgusting stuff for a while and feel very uncomfortable, but that's only happed twice so far. -
On way 2 SKINNEYVILLE Yall!
buchannon replied to Weightbgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! The first day out of surgery is the worst, then it's all downhill from there! -
So this is the second time I've been sick (weekish long) in the last 2 months. Has anyone else become more sickly after having surgery? I'm hoping that this is just a phase I'm going through where my body is reacting to all the changes going on. Definitely hoping it's not a permanent occurrence.

That's what I was thinking as well.
-
This was my doctor's conclusion as well. I should also probably not be drinking as much as I am and eat more protein.

You know you've been sleeved when.....
buchannon replied to 2bslimkim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know you've been sleeved when you start choosing items off the menu because they will make good leftovers. -

buchannon replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I couldn't find on the link if they were citrate or carbonate. Hopefully citrate though, I need to find a calcium supplement that I like!
