we might all want to reconsider lowcarb.....
xardoz replied to yannabee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks! -
I was banded in Sept. 2010 and I drink about 2/3 of a pot (black) a day with no ill effects. YMMV, of course.

I was Type 2, got banded and went low carb. Now I'm off all my diabetes meds and feel great. -
+1 to what Dave said, and he definitely needs to consult doctors on this. From personal experience, belly fat can interfere with testosterone and contribute to ED. Given all the other health issues that he has, banding will probably help - if his doctor says he's healthy enough for the band. It's certainly helped me in that department.

Eating without drinking
xardoz replied to Lady Lexie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll get used to it pretty quickly. The frustrating part will become dealing with waiters who just can't seem to grasp that you don't want anything to drink, not even water. -
Do you still have coffee?
xardoz replied to Southern Leo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's some argument that caffeine stimulates the appetite, but I haven't noticed it. I generally drink about half a pot a day with no ill effects. -
Where do YOU feel full??
xardoz replied to hokiemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto on the hiccups - and I've noticed that I get a headache almost instantly if I eat too quickly. -
Try Mega Red (I think it's krill oil) - the pill is about half the size most of the fish oil capsules I've seen. It's more expensive, but the size works for me and blood work seems to show a positive result.

What ElfiePoo ^ said. If you pay attention to your post-surgery diet, you may end up dropping your diabetes meds. I was diagnosed Type 2 a couple of years ago and put on Metformin and Amaryl. As I dieted during the ramp up for my banding, I was taken off Amaryl due to good blood numbers, then my Metformin dose was cut in half post-surgery, and as of last week I am now off all diabetes and blood pressure meds. Banding is not a magic bullet - you still have to eat right, but the band gave me the edge I needed to get the ball rolling.

I seriously could have slapped her
xardoz replied to arittel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny that her co-worker is struck her, funny that I'm taking it so seriously, or funny macing the b*tch? It IS serious. Bullying in the workplace, even over something as trivial as a pretzel, is serious. -

She also has no right to strike any of the people she's "helping." If she does this to a client, one of them WILL sue. Lord knows I would if she did it to me.If she felt comfortable doing this in front of others in the breakroom, it WILL happen again. You need to report this to HR if only to protect yourself for when it happens again. You can then say you informed your employer of the problem and it persisted and you were only protecting yourself and your rights. There is NO excuse for this kind of behavior whatsoever. -

This is not rudeness. This is assault. This person has NO RIGHT to touch you, certainly not to strike you. You need to report this to your human resources office. A verbal insult or rudeness could be handled with a word in private, but this is beyond that. And then, if it happens again, mace her (in self-defense, of course) and call the police. -
Maybe it varies from doctor to doctor. Mine says anti-inflammatories can lead to slipages.

In an emergency, you want the EMTs/emergency room staff to know: No nasogastric tube, Fluid capacity of 60ccs or less, limited/no anti-inflammatory medication and a potential need for anti-biotics before a procedure. That's what it says on the back of the laminated card my surgeon told me to carry in my wallet.

Best thing for scars???
xardoz replied to Shorty81367's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could always just tell people you were in a knife fight, and they should see the other girl! *my wife won't let me tell people that. sigh. -
Well, I guess it depends on the soup and how thick it is. A hearty chowder, no, that would be a mushie/soft. Chicken noodle soup (not condensed) I was told was a full liquid.

Find your favorite soup and throw it in a blender.

my poor cubicle mates......
xardoz replied to Angera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have my sympathy - I made chili myself Monday and ate it for dinner the next few nights. While I haven't had gas issues at work, I was getting pains when I lie down to sleep at night. At first I thought maybe something was wrong with my band, but then the . . . flatulence . . . started and relief was immediate. My poor wife. And my poor cat who was sleeping under the covers between my feet. Did your chili have Beans? Maybe some Beano or just chili without beans next time? That's what I'm going to do. Hate to think of life without chili ever again. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
xardoz replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Sept. 30th and I wish I could say it was as easy as so many here seem to have had it. Lots of muscular pain in my abdomen, but not unbearable. The hospital was short staffed that day, I'm told, and it took six hours before I could get someone to help me set up my CPAP after surgery. The worst part was the catheter. They had removed it while I was still under anesthesia, but it literally took a full week before I could pee normally. That being said, the band seems to be working as advertised. -
Banded last month, just had my first adjustment
xardoz posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone. As the subject says, I was banded at the end of September and just had my first adjustment this past Friday. So far, everything seems to be working as advertised, although I'm thinking I'll have to be tightened at my next adjustment as the full feeling doesn't last as long as I'd like. I WILL be a success story!
