1 year later and a little lost...

Well first that is a lot of weight to lose in less than a month. Special reason you want to lose that specific amount. Some tips: Track your intake, if you want o lose that much weight you are going to have to be very focused and really know what you are putting in your body. In order to lose 1 lb of fat you have to eat 3500 calories less for every pound. You need to figure out what your body currently needs just to maintain your current weight and than work back wards. You should not eat less than 1200 calories per day and for the best weight loss you will need to exercise at least 45 minutes 6 days a week. If you can do strengthen exercise you will build muscle and burn fat faster than just doing cardio. You need to drink your water at least 6-8 glasses per day, limit salt intake and only eat lean meets and vegetables. Going to venture out here and say yes it carbs but be wise in your choices and cut them way back after the noon meal. I hate to tell you but there is no magic way to do this with out a lot of hard work. Is it it doable yes but is it worth going on a diet instead of gradually losing weight?

    Streched Pouch...

Not to burst everyone's bubble but looking for the green zone is not always a reality. The reason chips and salsa and taco's go down is because the are sliders. Probably what is difficult to pass is protein or any food which requires a lot of chewing. I suggest you discuss with your physician or nutritionist. Do not get caught up in keeping the band tight because you will not loss weight faster just be frustrated and this will lead to eating the wrong foods.

Try and enjoy the day with family, one day you will be able to get to place where the food thing and lack of food on your plate does not bother you or is difficult to talk about. I can tell you what I do and it drives people crazy, I say are you seriously going to eat all that food, and your going back for seconds, WOW, wish I could eat like that, NOT! Seriously enjoy the day with family!

    Need advice and encouragement

All advice good my suggestion, counseling! Your head has to be in the right place to lose weight, our bands can be full, we can record our food, count every calorie, measure every morsel but if our minds are not reprogrammed to eat healthy and embrace this new life style no WLS will work. If you see yourself as a failure you will be a failure. I may have lost my weight with aid of my LB but the true champion was me, conquering my obstacles and learning what made me eat the way I ate. Never give up on yourself, you have one life and you have to own it. Good luck to you, I congratuate you for trying again, never give up on yourself you are worth all the effort!

    # of years with the lap band

I am 2 years and 6 months and have been at desired weight or below since Sept 2012.

    Vents

Plateaus are hard, I sat at one for over 4 months and you are correct it is very frustrating. I know it is easy to say have patience but honestly that is what it takes, sometimes when we are losing large amounts of weight our bodies need time to adjust to the weight loss. One thing you may try is increasing your protein, I lost best at 90 gms and above and exercising 5-6 days a week for 40-60 minutes. If you could do some strength training to start building muscle your body will burn fat faster. Good luck to you!

    My Story

Good luck Suzzie! Keep blogging, words are powerful and they really do help you to stay focused on the goal!
  15. My doc requires liquids for 2 days post adjustment. I do clear liquids day one, progress to full liquids day two, day three I do soft by day 4 usually I was able to eat but if my band was really working well it sometimes took me a week to learn how to re-eat again. PS: I hated fills. I had one bad episode of being too tight and that was enough for me. I have only had one other fill since that date, I chose to take this bull by the horns and learn portion control really quickly. Good Luck!

Had a rough time eating today

If you do not slow down your eating, either by taking small bites or waiting between bites you may have a higher chance of getting stuck. I find I get stuck most when I am not paying attention to what I am doing. Example, eating at my desk at work and continuing to multitask on projects. I usually get stuck or PB my food. Never hurts to talk to the doctors office.
  17. I was open and upfront from day one. I knew I needed the support. I work in health care, a nurse and there is always tons of food around the work place. I wanted everyone to know why I was no longer going to graze with them everyday and why i was eating healthy. Sad you have to explain! My family was my rock and so have most of my friends been. I do blog and mine are open on this site, I did not do an external web blog because I blog for two reasons, one to help me and two to help others who are knew to lap band or who are struggling. I have been active on this site through out my journey and will continue to be active even though I am below goal and have been there for 6 months. Good luck to you on your journey.

    Seafood and the band?

Some people have trouble with shrimp and many other proteins, chicken, eggs etc during there first few months of being banded. Shrimp is a little harder to chew and may slip down and be more difficult for you to digest. If you go to the Lap Band Talk site you will see on the list that shrimp is one of the seafoods that they do not recommend or state may be difficult. The highest in protein and easist to digest are fish filets, salmon, tuna and crab.Salmon and tuna are very high in protein.Do you like sushi or specifically Ahi Tuna, this is an excellant source of protein and easily digested due to it's soft velvet like texture. As you can tell , I love it. I also love Tilapa grilled or baked or salmon. I will tell you what I can eat today 2 and half years out and what I could eat in the beginning are totally different. I have more issues with leafy lettuce and collard greens, spinach and broccoli than I do most proteins. Just keep trying and one day you will be able to eat shrimp again.

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

Excellant point about fills, all of my fills have been done under fluro. I will not have a fill any other way.

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?

I vote 100% yes, lap band has given me back years of my life. Is it easy no, does it require just as much hard work as any other method I have tried, yes the difference is lap band has taught me portion control and learning the difference between being full and being satisfied. I would defiantly have the surgery again!

How many calories do you eat a day?

While trying to lose weight I aimed at 1240 calories aday. I did balance my carbs, sugars, proteins and fats. I ate around 90-120 gms of protein, around 75-100gms carbs, less than 40 gms of sugar and less than 30gms of fat. I used to set up MFP to these standards. The hardest for me to hit was the fats. I was always eating nuts and they are very high in fat content. The diet I followed for over a year was a healthy diet, eating 3 balanced meals a day and 2-3 high protein snacks between meals. I rarely eat back my exercise points, why because I was trying to lose weight. I do planned meals, I eat within an hour of rising in the morning, a mid morning snack around 10 am, lunch around 12 noon, Mid afternoon snack 3 pm and than dinner and snack before bed if hungy, I also drink lots of water. This method worked for me but each of us are individual in our journey. Good luck!
