    Just thoughts: Who defines "overweight"?

Hi All, My husband and I had a good laugh last night as I went through the BMI listing in one of my information booklets. I had to "break it to him" that he was overweight. Although we laughed at this, we also were concerned. Now I am clearly in the morbidly obese area. I LOOK like I am that obese. I have health like I'm that obese, it is clear I have a high BMI. My husband, however, works out 4-5 days a week, has a slim build and plenty of muscle. People look at him and see a handsome, slim, healthy man. Yet according to the BMI scoring, he needs to lose 40+ lbs. And to be honest, he would look like a skeleton. He is too tall to not turn out lanky. So I wonder who defines overweight? How has the optimum BMI been determined? Even on the old system, my husband needed to lose 30lbs. But he clearly does not. He is very healthy and fit.

    port pain?

OMG I just called and talked to my Doctor's office about this very thing this morning. First thing she asked me is if I had lifted anything (as this has just become most painful area over the last few days). Since I had not, she figured it was just healing. I was banded October 26. Your description is almost the exact of mine. They will not give me more help with pain relievers either, but luckily I have good pain killers with my fybro that I can add on to. Codeine is NOT working grrrr... I find it better if I hold that area of my stomach while on the move. I went out for the first time today and that helped during the outing. And slow going. Great to know that I have someone in this with me!

    Worried

I'm into my week two. I lost about 15 pounds pre-surgery with the shake diet. Other than that I'm stuck. I can't get the amount of Calories I SHOULD have in, and I think this may be the issue. However, what I have learned in my readings are: Lose slowly to maintain better. Losing slowly helps the skin adjust better to it's new body hence helping with loose skin issues later.

    repost: Blabber and concerns

Hi Folks, Please comment. I hope to be a regular chatter here. I think it is important for us. I had my surgery October 26. I did not stay in the hospital overnight, but am off work until November 15. I was extremely dry from the anesthetic. I had a lot of pain due to the cut in. Like my mother said, it is basically being "stabbed" 5 times. But once I got the pain under control I felt pretty good. I control it with hydromorphine (x1) and tylenol one (x2) with codeine. This was the only combination that worked. I had shoulder pain for about 2-3 days after. Hot/Cold helped this. My Mother's nursing training came out so she forced me to do my coughs. Cough's are important to prevent pneumonia, whether they are dry or not. I did these while hugging a pillow really close. Also, I made sure I did my breathing exercises. I started worrying on the Thursday. I'm worried about the following: How do I know the LAP-BAND® has not slipped? Would they sew it in so that slight movements would not move it? Am I filling my stomach too much and stretching it? How do I "eat" my Diabetic Boost 5 times a day AND get in my other liquids? Why am I so tired? How would I know if my port flipped? Due to other illnesses, I have a lot of drugs to take, what can I do to quicken the process of taking them? (crushing them was disgusting) Anyways, that's all I have for now. Thanks all in advance for posting! I hope you all are doing great! I look forward to helping you all I can. Bobbi

    Itchy incisions

Hi, I have staples in that were very itchy. My Mother suggested taking a q-tip and putting alcohol on the incisions. She says this helps with bug bites as well! Take care!
