    Port pain!!

Yes....I had the same problems and pains. I was banded on Dec. 29, 2010. Believe, this pain will subside over time. Just be patient....your body just went thru some huge changes. Keep your chin up and think positive. You will get over this, and be successful in your weight loss.

    Starting Jitters

I understand your situation. I knew that my family would be the same way, so I didn't tell anyone except my husband about my surgery. In fact, my husband and I were banded on the same day. We told the family afterwards. My son said that he was so worried about our weight and doing nothing. He is happy that we are finally doing something! Just remember, the band is so much safer than GBP or the sleeve. It can be adjusted to your own needs. However, it is just a "tool". You will still have to watch your diet, and exercise. If you do all of that....you will be successful. As for your parents, I would just ask them: "How many years do you want me to be on this earth? Without this lapband, my life is shortened considerably." The surgery is safe and effective. Please keep us updated on your posts. PS We were banded on December 29, 2010....my husband has lost 63, and I have lost 41.

    Two days into post op

I felt the same as you right after my surgery. The weight gain is from the iv's that you had. This gain is normal. I could not lay on my left side for several weeks (not sure if that irritated the port or what). However, with each passing day, I felt so much better. Eat your liquids, try to go for short walks to get some exercise, and stay positive. The weight will come off. Best of luck to you...you are just beginning your "new" life.
  4. I had my first fill last week. I didn't feel a thing!!! Since my fill, I have noticed that I am not as "starved" as I felt prior. In fact, very little food fills me up, and I am very satisfied. I was told to be on liquids the day of the fill and again the following day. I am eating regular again (no/low carb diet). Again....I feel wonderful since my first fill, and I'm positive the pounds will begin to "melt" off!!
  5. My husband and I were banded on Dec. 29th. For two weeks prior, we used the Optifast and drank clear liquids. Now, we are on clear liquids only. We have our first post op visit tomorrow and can begin creamed soups, yogurt, etc. We have two brand new boxes of Optifast that have never been opened (vanilla - expires June 2011) (chocolate - expires August 2011). Is there anyone in the central Florida area that might be interested in buying it? I asked the doctor about returning it, but according to state law, they can not accept the return.

    Optifast

Thanks for your thoughts, Fran. First of all, we were not permitted to drink it for two weeks post op. I suppose we could use it after that, however, since we're both retired, I don't think it will be any problem eating at home.

    HELP Liquid Diet!!!!!!

Each physician has their own diet plan pre and post op. My physician had me on Clear liquids (broth, sf Jello, sf popcicles, low cal juice) plus the Optifast for two weeks prior to banding. My banding was on Dec. 29th. I have followed a clear liquid diet since the banding with no Optifast. Tomorrow I have my first post op visit. I will then be able to eat creamed Soups, sf pudding, low fat yogurt, cream of wheat, and vegetable juices. One thing that was very helpful....I have a small ice cream freezer (one that sits on the counter). I freeze the container so it's aways ready. Put the vanilla Optifast in and blend for about 10 minutes. The result tastes just like a Wendy's Frosty. It is delicious. That was my treat every evening. I have two cases of the Optifast left and will not use it. If you are interested, or know anyone interested, I would be glad to give a good deal. (Case vanilla + case chocolate). Good luck with you new way of life.

    Banded on December 29th

My husband and I were each banded on Dec. 29th also. Our doctor had us on the clear liquid diet, plus the Optifast supplement for two weeks prior to banding. I lost 10 pounds prior. After the surgery, I wasn't sure how to tell if I was full, or if it was just surgical discomfort. Believe me, I can tell the difference now. Our doctor has us on Clear liquids (no Optifast) until tomorrow when we have our first post op visit. I have been very hungary, so I have tried a few creamed Soups. They taste delicious, but I have gained two pounds since I started doing that. I walk everyday (something I NEVER did before). My abdominal area is still quite sore, but just think, just two weeks ago, my insides will all moved around. So, I believe my feelings are normal. I think we all need to hang in there and stick with the program. The weight loss will come....maybe not as fast as we want...but it will happen! Good luck with your future weight loss. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
  9. I was banded on Dec. 29th. I've lost 24 pounds so far, but have not lost an ounce in 5 days. In fact, today I gained one pound. That is very discouraging. I have eaten broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popcicles, and lots of water. Last evening I make pizza soup....the onion, garlic, pepper, and mushroom were blended in the "Magic Bullet". The base is tomato juice and fat free chicken broth. I added to my 1 cup portion, 1/4 cup fat free mozzerella cheese. Delicious! However, I gained one pound today. I have begun walking (something I have never done before). Yesterday, I took two walks. Any suggestions why this is happening?

    At A Standstill

I started my "liquid diet" on December 15th. So, when I say I have lost 24 pounds, it's since Dec. 15th. I've only lost 10 pounds since being banded on Dec. 29th.
