  1. I did exactly that until i could run more consistently. Personally if i never run again, i'll be just fine with it. I hate running, i hop on the row machine when possible cause it's easier on my knee.
  2. Thank you for your insight. For me, i was on a low calorie diet and I really wasn't eating enough with the workouts we do at the gym. My trainer is a former Marine, who organizes and runs Gorucks, along with spartan races, etc. so we do some tough/grueling workouts that he tailors for those of us that like the style of the events, but don't want to participate in the events themselves. My weight was not coming off. When we sat down and went over my food intake for a period of time, it was very clear i wasn't eating correctly and needed to increase my calories a bit and modify a few things. By then it was time for surgery, so back to square one and getting a system down that works for me. Perhaps when i offered my words, i wasn't thinking forward enough to remember everyone's circumstances/goals are different. MY BAD.

    Taking a bath

They make waterproof bandages if you are really worried about them getting wet. Enjoy! I know i loved my first hot soaking bath after surgery.
  4. OMG, i just did this with my homemade chili today. Can you say shoot me now? LOL Thankfully, i love chili, so i'm sure i'll be thankful every time i have a cup of it now.
  5. Part of the reason i converted to the sleeve was because no matter how i controlled my diet i wasn't losing weight. I was in the gym 5 days a week and it just wasn't coming off. My guess is i probably wasn't eating enough and my body was really in a storing phase because i wasn't accounting for the calories i used while working out. I went to the liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery, within a week i had no strength for the gym. While i'm heavy, i had a lot of solid muscle. Over the next 3 weeks after surgery, i was losing fast, but also losing all the muscle and toning i had. At 3 weeks post-op, i was allowed to return to the gym. I'm still losing but i'm also gaining the muscle back. I think it comes down to what we each want personally. For me, i'm ok if the weight slows down a bit because i'm building and toning muscle at the same time and i missed the gym. That's my alone time and at 5 a.m. it bothers no one else in the family cause they are all still in bed...LOL My trainer swears though the weight might not fall off as quick, the inches will and the toning will be noticed. Others may want the weight off quicker and hope to rebuild after the loss. Perhaps look at how you want to lose the weight and what makes you happy, then if you opt to go back to the gym make sure you touch base with your nutritionist and trainer so you are on the same page in working towards your goal. Just make sure you account for the expended calories at the gym and get your protein in. Good Luck!

    band to sleeve

Converted to the sleeve on 1/23, back to work in a week. I found early on with 3 c-sections under my belt, that the sooner I am up & moving, the quicker my body heals, all within reason of course. Only issue so far has been as others have mentioned, the port location. I'm in the gym 5 days a week and the only thing that really bothers that site is the two machines where i lay on my stomach. Thankfully while i was out those 3 weeks, our gym had gotten 2 new machines that work the same muscles without having lay down. Best of luck on your new journey.

    Booze!!

My doc says never again to alcohol, nutritionist says wait 6 months. That said, we went out for dinner the other afternoon & my favorite winery was releasing their spring wine. Yep, stopped in and had a sample or two (REALLY JUST TWO) and my only regret was we didn't walk around enough after eating before stopping. Otherwise, the wine was wonderful. For me, i can give up the sweets but i do like to have wine with my meals so i'm thinking instead of a glass it will just be a much smaller tasting after or before provided my body is ok with it.

    why no soda??

I haven't had soda since my lapband 7 years ago and don't really miss it. Once in a blue moon, if i don't have a drink when we are out to eat & i need a drink ASAP, i'll take a sip of the hubby's and YUCK, no taste for it.

    Need help

I would just call your doc's office and ask if they've submitted everything. If they did submit, just ask for the date so that you can confirm it's been received by the insurance company. It could just be a cross in the system since it was only a few days but there's nothing wrong with doing a little foot work to make sure everything is moving forward as it should be. Good luck.

    Pre-Op diet...how much did u

I lost 26 pounds between my 2 week pre-op diet and my 2 week post-op appt. My diet for those 4 wks was strictly liquid. Lots of premier shakes and low fat cream soups. I wasn't permitted to have any type of solid food during this stage and i had little strength to get to the gym those first 2 wks. Surgery was just 7 weeks ago this past Monday & i'm down 42 lbs total, with 5 days a week at the gym since 3 wks post-op. Definitely lost a lot of muscle during those 4 wks and i'm finally gaining it back or the number might even be lower. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

    Dehydration post op

Hope you are feeling better by today. I had my sleeve the same day. Fluids were an issue for me. At one week after being in the er for severe constipation, i spoke with the RN and she told me to cut the Protein shakes and see if i can get more fluids in that way. Seems that was the trick for me. They were just making me too full and i couldn't drink anything extra any way. Now i'm back on track getting in almost my 64 ozs a day. Hopefully i'll start adding in protein after tuesday when i go in for my post op appt.

    Which procedure to choose

I think if my doctor recommened me to do the lapband, i would run screaming at the top of my lungs the other way. In fact, when i went in to the office in Nov to discuss removing the darn thing (banded 2010), both told me right out that the majority of doctors are no longer not only not recommending it, they are no longer performing that procedure. I had my revision on 1/23 from the band to the sleeve. I say skip the band and opt for the sleeve if those are your choices. Best of luck.

    Energy level after surgery?

My surgery was on 1/23 with a 10 day pre liquid diet, 10 day full liquid post op, and moved to a pureed diet yesterday. I attempted to go back into the office 3 days after - granted i have a desk job so i don't have to do much. I stayed 2 hours went home exhausted. This 2nd week has been better, but i'm also working 5-6 days & of those 3 days are 12 hr shifts and i will tell you i'm beat. I do think if you are just running the kiddos here & there and are not doing much else, you will be ok. Just make sure you get all your fluids in, my RN told me to skip the Protein because i was getting dehydrated and the shakes were making me so full i couldn't drink the fluids. Good Luck!
