Abdminoplasty, breast lift, chin, lipo on 7/25
Joleen posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am so excited to be less then 2 weeks away from my surgery". I have lost 65lbs. I'm not at my goal yet but even though I eat great and exercise 5 days a week I cannot lose anymore. My plastic surgeon feels it will help to get all the excess skin off. I only have to lose 30 more this will put me close to my goal! I will post before and after pics -

Whats The Workout To Loose Weight Faster?
Joleen replied to s0utherndivadoll's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I just recently switched up my workout! I have been at a plateau for months now! I joined curves, and do zumba! I am noticing the scale move again. Most important is measuring. I lost 8.5 inches last month!! Sometimes I think the scale has to catch up, since we are building muscle! My husband does P90x and that is suppose to be incredible! He is in shape, but after his workout he sweats like crazy! If you like tapes check out P90X or insanity, I want to, but I am just not strong enough to do them yet! -
I think after a year I am finally at my restriction!!! I got a fill last Monday and I have to be very very careful with chicken! I also cannot eat raw carrots or rice!!! I love sushi, but can only eat the rice if I chew chew chew it!!!! My hubby cooks chicken and he shreds it between two forks so I can eat it that way!!! I am finally realizing what it means to take your time with eating and how important it is to feel this restriction thing!!! I am so HAPPY, I FINALLY have the restriction, it has been a LONG year!!!

Hi everyone!! Just wanted to see how everyone is doing after a year!!! It has been a year of highs and lows for me! I know now that exercise has to be a daily part of my life because I have the slowest metabolism in the world. I also realized that I cannot lose if I drink any alcohol!!! I maintained my weight loss when I exercised but it seemed when the weekends came I couldn't loose!!! DUH!!! Well since I cut that out and changed my exercise a little (I stopped the YMCA and joined curves and do zumba) I am losing again! It's slow but I am doing it! I hope everyone else is doing well, good luck!

Hypo-Thyroid Bandsters
Joleen replied to MelBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for starting this thread!!! I too have hypothyroidism and I take synthyroid 100mcg daily. I have been diagnosed for 6 years and when I went into the hospital with a TSH of 60! It has not been easy!! I also got banded in March my date was the 28th, 2011 and the weight is coming of so slow! I thought it would have come off faster, but it hasn't! I do the same thing you do, exercise eat right etc!! I did slow down on exercise over the holidays and put back on 4 lbs!!!! I have gone from a size 18 to a size 12 so I am looking forward to 2012 and losing a few more sizes with lots of hard work!!! -
OMG, I was also in a car accident almost one month to the day after my surgery! I was under lots of stress and had nothing in my band but it was extremely tight. My primary care physician gave me .25mg of xanax and it really relaxed me, I didn't realize it until much later but I could eat anything!!!! I recently came under more stress and my band became super tight again, now I meditate and it does help!!! Good luck, Joleen

I am newly banded, and have never experienced slippage but I was involved in a motor vehicle accident and I was concerned with slippage so my doctor told me what to look out for. He didn't mention any "popping" sensation. I do get that sometimes but think it's gas. He said the symptoms are nausea, and vomiting primarily! You are smart to call them anyway!!! Good luck!

Congrats, on losing 60 lbs. so far!!! I noticed you were banded in Sept. I was banded in March 11 and I just started exercising 3 weeks ago (elliptical and weights), I am still only losing 1 lb a week, and I never eat over 1200 cal a day. Did you notice the weight coming off faster at some point. I feel I am at my sweet spot all ready!!! Thanks, Joleen

I just got to onederland myself, my road has been slow. So congrats and keep up the good work. My road is so slow I am only losing a lb. a week!!!! Good luck!

How happy are you with your body as you are losing weight?
Joleen replied to Joleen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I guess we should all keep it in perspective, but it's hard!!! It's much easier to listen to that negative voice then tell yourself you are beautiful!!! I am going to work on accepting compliments and work on easing up on myself, but I know it's not going to happen over night!!! This forum helps it helps to know I am not alone and I am accepted here!!! Thanks everyone!!! -
How happy are you with your body as you are losing weight?
Joleen posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have lost a little over 40 lbs now and I can see things changing, BOY I think I am going to need a lot of work done when I lose 100 lbs! How is every dealing with the changes their body is going through!!! I know I should be happy so far and 43 pounds is a lot but when I see my profile I feel I look like Alfred Hitchcock or I have a barrel around my belly. I am just so disgusted!! I feel bloated, ugh. I try and try to get over this feeling but I can't!!! I will continue to work out and eat right but I am waiting for the day I am finally comfortable in my own skin! I think I am going back into therapy!!! I have had a whole life of eating problems and it seems the more I focus on my weight the more problems come to light! I want to know if anyone else feels this way and how they stop these negative feelings? Is it normal to feel bigger at a size 14 then you did at an 18???? Good luck to everyone!!! -

NJGirl, yep you are right, we all do have distorted views of our bodies from time to time...lol I have a mental picture in my head of the women that have so much confidence they where anything, even things they shouldn't!!!! I am going to start telling myself "good things" Ms, I wonder how I let myself get that big also!!! I did have medical reasons, but come on!!! I keep thinking I wasted most of my 30's and 40's on being over weight and that is sad. I have to also learn how to get over that and live in the moment and move forward!!!! We will do it and keep moving forward!!! I keep seeing all the pictures of the people that did it and that motivates me!!! -
Are you monitoring your food and exercise with a program, such as myfitnesspal. I have been using it, and it keeps me honest. and it breaks down my carbs, Proteins and fats. I also agree with what the above people said mix up your exercise and exercise everyday even if its a 30 minute walk! I have a metabolism that works in super slow motion!!! I know how hard it is!!! I am 47 and have abused my body most of my life. If I eat over 1300 calories a week and don't exercise I don't loose!!!! Good luck!

TMI question about tummy tucks...
Joleen replied to spoiltmom's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thank, so much for asking this question!!! I am having the same problem with my "mons" area!!! I will definitely ask the ps for a lift up in that area when they give me my tummy tuck. I am only down 42 lbs. with about 58 to go but I can all ready see the yucky saggy skin, UGH. I know all the exercise in the world won't help and I am so glad I have this board. The last thing I won't to do is ask my personal trainer is if there is an exercise for this!!!! LOL Thanks and good luck to everyone!!! -
How many more are close to the 100's? I have been 200.5 t0 202 for 2 weeks now and all the exercise I do won't budge the scale. I am eating perfect. Hmmmf. I know my metabolism is slow as a snail but come on!!! I have only lost 17 lbs. since surgery so this has been a slow progress for me. When I figured it out in my head I thought I would lose 2-3 lbs a week if I did everything right. Is anyone else feeling satisified, eating right and exercising and still not losing??? I got this surgery because I used to eat about 1700 cal a day and still couldn't lose so I thought this would help!!!!! It's not!!!! UGH. I am going to get a trainer at the gym if it doesn't start coming off quicker!! Any input would be helpful!!!

I have had 2 fills about six weeks apart first fill was 1 cc 2nd was 2 cc, I feel satisfied now! I know if anything I should probably eat more through the week. I eat better on the weekends. I just read skinny b***h and I am thinking about going with a more vegan diet. This book is about how pesticides, hormones and artificial flavorings in foods make us fat. I am starting to believe that this book makes some sense. I think I am going to try it and see what happens. I noticed when I was eating just the juices I was feeling better and had more energy!! we will see! Joleen

Didn't read anyone else's post just the topic of discussion!!! My guilty pleasure is losing weight!!!! I am a wound care nurse and I have taken care of too many people with health issues think they can have just one guilty pleasure so I enjoy exercise and losing weight now!!! I love yogurt. I have always been a healthy eater, just got lazy after menopause! My MD and dietician also said from the start of this that if you loved ice cream and shakes (guilty pleasures) to be careful they could go right through!!! Not trying to be negative this thread just surprised me!!!!

Reached 100 lbs. lost! I can't believe it!
Joleen replied to drivera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congtats!!! I am losing weight slowly also!!! It must feel great to lose 100 lbs, I have a friend that is on your same exact plan!!! She just hit the 100 lb. mark, but she just started exercising. I am trying to get motivated to exercise. That's the key but it is tough!!! Good luck on your continued success!! -
I have been experiencing some problems recently and I am not sure whats going on. I was banded 3/28/11 and I have never felt restriction until just recently after my second fill 2 weeks ago! He put 2 cc's in my band for a total of 3 cc's (this was my 2nd fill). I felt fine the first week but this week has been a horrible stressful week at home and at work. I have heard on this forum that the band can tighten with stress. I have not had much of an appetite and last Thursday actually got stuck after chewing very well and finishing my dinner. I felt like I had food caught in my throat and just took a tiny sip of water to help it go down and it felt like everything was going to project out!!! I ran to the bathroom and a little came up but nothing I did made it move. After about 20 minutes of coughing burping and pain, I felt better. I am also getting over a cold and have a cough so I am wondering if this cough and sore throat could be related to that???? It does seem to be related more to eating then my cold though!!! I have to drive over an hour a way and hate to get the fluid removed if it's related to stress or this cold!!! Plus my doctor is sick and they have to squeeze me in tomorrow so I am sure he is going to be busy!!! I haven't had any nausea. I can eat salad and chew fine without a stuck feeling. My throat just feels really rough like there is sand in it, I also feels like there is just something there!!! I have lost 9 lbs in 2 wks. because I have to remind myself to eat, but that could be related to the amazing stress level too. Thanks!
