If you aren't ready to make the sacrifices needed pre op and post op you will not be successfull. That is a fact. However you made the decision so my advice would be to take the next step and have a chat with yourself and decide if you are ready willing and able to do whatever you need to do to get the weight off. The first 4 days of liquid stink, but by the end of the first week you will start to see the loss and if you stick with it you could be like me who lost 22 lbs on the preop liquid. You will learn during this time that you don't need to live to eat you just need to get enough nutrition to live. Good luck

It was 2 weeks before I was allowed to lift more than 5 lbs. you are recovering from your body Being cut open... you have to give it item to heal. I would suggest having help for 2 weeks. You will be able to function after a few days but it will be difficult to lift them. You can improvise of course with sitting down hugs etc but if you have to lift on into a car seat or crib it might be pushing it.

Let me ask you something since thenotherngave some really good advice. Is she fat? Because if she is she may deep down not want you to lose weight because she thinks you will stop being her friend if you are skinny. Believe it or not there are people who are jealous of my weight lose....no they don't come right out and say it but their comments and actions say it all. If she isn't fat... Then as supportive as she has been in the past you might tell her you have made your decision and educate her. Have her read this forum or this thread. Good luck

Obviously it isn't smart to smoke...but my dr said it doesn't directly effect the band. My band is on the stomach not my lungs.

Once several years ago I was flying and I was squeezed into the seat but it was the window and I wasn't hanging over the middle seat as I was smushed up against the window....a fat girl's favorite trick. I was professionally dressed, not sloppy but yes I was over weight. The woman who was in the middle seat called the steward and asked to be moved. At first I thought it was because she was in a middle seat but then she proceeded to ask why they let fat people on the flight when it was so full and how she was uncomfortable sitting next to a fat person... She actually said.." What if it gets warm... That fat lady will sweat.". You should make her buy the whole row. Of course anyone within 5 Rows either way heard her and looked to see the fat girl. I was mortified.

If you are trying to lose at a good rate and get the correct nutrition I would stick to 3-4 oz of Protein, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 c startch at every meal in that order. I limited myself to 1000 calories and always ate my protein and veggies first and usually could not eat more than a bite of startch. Your calorie count may differ but for a bandster in the green zone or even before that's about what you need to shoot for. Good luck

I am almost 2 years out and 10 lbs to goal. I am a model bandster! But I have a problem.... I had a fill on Friday... first one in 6-7 months. I had it because I felt my normal portions were not keeping me satisfied until the next meal and I was looking for food. The Dr and I discussed it and that was that. On my last fill I had 5.7 cc. It was perfect. On Friday I was down to 5ccs so he gave me a little fill. I drank the Water he always has me drink before I left with no issues. Everything seemed normal. I did liquids for the rest of Friday, mushies on Saturday and back to eating with the band mindset on Sunday night. Then on Monday even liquid wasnt feeling right going down. I have been working as normal but felt very tired and had a slight fever on Monday so thought I had a touch of the flu.. Today I decided to have lunch at my desk and within 20 minuites it all came up. Not the normal PB... but projectile if you know what I mean. This has never happened so I dont know if its a stomach bug or I am just too tight. I would say too tight but what makes me wonder is that everything seemed notmal until monday. I havent had a stomach bug since being banded.... so I have nothing to compare it too. what are your thoughts? thanks so much!
-
thanks for all the feedback and kind words. I think it is a bug... I am weak and tired (and of course working through it ) and I dont think being too tight would be the cause of this. I havent thrown up since yesterday thankfully and was able to keep Soup down last night. I am just having a 1/2 banana now and I am hoping that stays put. We are leaving on vacation in 9 days so I really need to get better! The band is tighter than it was obviously since I had a fill but normally it looses up in a week or two. Maybe with me being ill it is just going to be a slower go this time.

Serious Question
FLORIDAYS replied to Kaylaspence93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Popcorn acts like a slider for me... so I just make sure to measure it out. No more than 100 calorie serving. I would think you could eat it when you are on solid foods. -
Congrats on taking the first step. Make sure you follow the dr's orders and remember the band will do 70% of the work. You must do the rest Best of luck

Ok I will be the token smoker in The group. I am not a heavy smoker ..maybe 6-10 daily. I am well aware of the risks to my health Because I smoke. That said I discussed it with my dr and while he of course advised me to quit said I shouldn't have any complications with my band caused by smoking. I healed fine and resumed life as normal. I have changed my life because of my band and quitting smoking is on the list to do... And I will when I am ready

Restriction? How Do You Jnow Youre There?
FLORIDAYS replied to Chiflado's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my case once I started eating real foods I started counting calories using an ap on my phone. I tracked everything except toothpaste. My number was1000 a day. I was able to get that I. Eating 2 meals of 1/4 c startch, 1/2 c veggies and 3/4 oz of Protein. I also had 2 Snacks and a sugar free instant Bfast in the morning because food and I do not agree first thing, I knew that I needed a fill when that didn't keep me satisfied and I was looking for food. Until you are completely comfortable in the green zone you shouldn't eat u til you are full because you really don't know how much you are eating ANd you won't lose weight unless you tAke in Less calories than you burn. Remember 3600 calories equals a pound, Best of luck -
How Do You Do When You Are On Vacation?
FLORIDAYS replied to SueBee01's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Last. Action I lost a pound and I was thrilled. We heas out on Vacation in 10 days and since I am so close to goal I will just expect to stay the same. To echo what someone already said vacation isnt about food anymore!!! -
The violent losing of my lunch makes me thinks its a bug... and that could be irritating the band.... I think I will give it a day or 2 to see if it improves... Dr is in surgeries on Thursday so Friday would be my first available appt anyway. Maybe I will call the office and make one just in case.... I can always cancel it. thanks for the advice.

How Would You Describe?
FLORIDAYS replied to jennygirl37's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My day is the same as it was before I was banded.... Minus the calories. Seriously I haven't noticed a difference in my quality of life other than I am thin now and healthy. I make good food choices now whereas I didn't pre band. I watch my calories now and stick to 1000 each day... Didn't do that pre band so that's probably the largest difference. During my journey I learned that food is fuel. I don't need it for comfort, companionship or love. No one cares what I eat.... Except me. -
I had my surgery at memorial in dec 2010 and had a wonderful experience. I am so sorry you did not. In fact one if my nurses was/is on this forum because she is a bandster. I hope you reported this incident to the chief of staff.

Idea Of What Weightloss Is Like For Others With The Band And How Many Calories Were You Told To Eat Each Day?
FLORIDAYS replied to TIGERLILY1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During my first 22 months I would eat 1000 calories a day. I lost 208 lbs. my dr suggest 1500 to start but I just couldn't consume that much food so my dr had me track everything for a month and he was fine with my loss. I averaged around 10 lbs each month...some more some less of course. Now I bumped it up to 1200 or so although my dr had me stop tracking it so I would learn to eyeball it and continue to lose. I am 8 lbs from my goal. I still eat 3-4 oz of Protein, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 c starch at meals although I usually don't finish the startch. -
I was also told to drink 5 per day for a total of 800 calories

5 Years Later
FLORIDAYS replied to Heartsvalentine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 2 years out and about 10 lbs from goal. I have been holding losing a pound or so in the past month or so. I just had a fill last week because I could feel myself needing one. I was at 5.7 ccs in April and perfectly happy. So last week he checked and I was only at 5ccs. He gave me a fill. He says it just evaporates sometimes faster then other times. I would make an appointment for a fill if it were me. -
Boston Market Sweet Potatoes
FLORIDAYS replied to newme37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never been to a Boston Market but now it makes sense why it was so high in calories...the topping and sugar... thanks for that info. I actually eat white potato several times each week since rice and Pasta arent easy for me to digest for whatever reason. I do limit all starches to 1/4 c whether it be baked, mashed or boiled. And I use butter too. Just a smidge. -
I feel fine about soups. I eat them alot because I like them. They fill me up just fine. I wouldnt be able to eat a more then a bite of grilled cheese AND soup though... that would be too much food. I also would have to space out the timing... soup and sandwhich would be just like drinking with your meal.

Boston Market Sweet Potatoes
FLORIDAYS replied to newme37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. Yes this is a time to heal.... You should be able to have enery, feel satisfied and lose all while healing. You need to start creating good habits.... I was merely pointing out that particular food was high in calories. I am sure you are following g your drs orders... Best of luck to you. -

My First Consultation
FLORIDAYS replied to Lindsey Toppila's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to have my primary dr clear me for surgery, have a cardio work up, blood work and a psychological exam. At my first consult my dr spent a long time discussing what to expect, his list of do' s and dont's after the band and generally getting to know me.
