If you linger on this forum long enough you will see lots of similarities and differences in all kinds of things... The most common is the pre op diet dilemma . I don't know why the drs differ... But from what I have seen its best when you find a surgeon you trust and follow his orders to a tee.

I always get the soup for a safe low calorie bet.... And grilled anything ...chick, pork, steak, shrimp is a good choice. Just eat slowly and enjoy the conversation and company and don't focus on what you can't eat. Have fun

the first 4 days are the hardest. Drink lots of wter in addition to your shakes. There is nothing fuin about it...You have to tough it out! But I promise it gets better.

Lap Band Brand~ How Many Cc's Brought You To Your "sweet Spot"?
FLORIDAYS replied to Banderina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree.... everyone is so different... but in my experience my Dr is stingy with fills because he doesnt want me too tight... so it took 3 or 4 fills to get to my sweet spot. I would say its was 4 months post op. 5ccs worked for a long time. Now that I have lost the majority of my weight I am at 5.7cc. I have a 10cc band. -

How Do You Count...
FLORIDAYS replied to barepooh71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like Mis73 I use a smart phone ap. Mine is Calorie Counter by Fat Secret. I just typed in mashed potatoes... there are restaurent mashed potatoes, boxed brand names...fresh but if you dont know but you just know they are instant lets say... you can get a general idea of the calorie count along with other nut info. Its not accurate but it should be close enough. There is 220 calories in a cup of mashed potatoes made from dry flakes. If they were fresh made with milk and butter 1 c is about 237 calories. -
thanks I am excited to have lsot the weight obviously...but am more excited now for the band to do its job and not let me gain it all back. But I just cannot overeat and i am making healthy choices now so I am not really worried about it.

I cannot speak for anyone else. I can just tell you that in my opinion in order to be successfull you must control your eating.... even though this isnt a "diet"... if you want to lose weight before you reach the green zone and even after in my opinion.... you need to track your food and count calories. I am not saying other ways dont work...just telling you what worked for me. I limited myself to 1000 calories per day...every day no exceptions. I have lost 210 lbs to date. I am 7 or 17 lbs from goal depending on where I decide to stop. It has been less than 2 years all the best!

14 Months Post Op Minimal Weight Loss
FLORIDAYS replied to Shoes Optional's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate 1000 calories each day but that may not be a good number for you so check with the Dr. At each meal I tried to eat 300 calories in the following form: 3-4 oz protien, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 startch. That left 100 calories for a snack of fruit or whatever. -
14 Months Post Op Minimal Weight Loss
FLORIDAYS replied to Shoes Optional's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since we dont know each other I can only tell you from what you written it looks like we had a very different first year. I was at the dr monthly. I tracked everything I put in my mouth except toothpaste, I had several fills and no problems, and lost a boatload of weight. That said there is NO reason not to call the dr and get back on track. You already have the tool. You need to learn how to use it. While you are waiting for your appointment why don't you start tracking your calories and measuring your portions Because the band cannot work without you helping it out. All the best to you Good luck -
I am curious to know why they PA told you that. Maybe you can ask when you stop in to pick up your medical records to take to your new dr. Just a caution, if you are unhappy with your surgeon's staff you may want to discuss it with Him or her before you bail. But whatever you do do not go without a drs support. Find another before you make a move. Good luck

Ditto ditto... . I just stick to a specific number of calories and proper portions and I am down 210 lbs in 23 mths

Should I Do Plication With My Lapband.
FLORIDAYS replied to Mandylove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are several folks on here who have this procedure. I am not one of them. I just have the band and have been very successful. Best of luck as you consider your options -
Best of luck for a successful surgery!
-
If it feels good ...do it. If it hurts you may need to get creative to help hubby out until you are back in full form.
-
Yes many drs won't do elective surgery on a smoker. Check what your dr's policy is.
-
there is no magical cure... The band will only do 70% of the work. You must do the rest. How many calories are you eating? It would be impossible not to lose if you are burning more calories than you are taking in. Are you tracking your calories and food intake? You might be surprised how many calories you are able to consume until you get to the green zone. Best of luck

I don't focus on anything but 1000 calories every day which includes for each meal 3-4 oz of protein, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 c startch and a snack of fruit.

According to my Dr he wants to do an unfill.... I had my first virus last week... I only vomited once and then took it easy the whole week on soft fods so I think I was ok.... but just be mindful of it.
-
If you dont have one at home...Rent or borrow one and watch a toddler eat.... Thats about the same sized bites you should be taking. My 16 mth old granddaughter and I eat about the same bites... which makes sense since we have the same sized stomach.
-
My first fill was also 3cc in the same sized band. I didnthave pain tho... have you discussed this with the dr?

When And How Do You Take Your Vitamins?
FLORIDAYS replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take my gummy multi in the morning... they basically dissolve so my tight morning band tolerates it. I take my biotin in the evening.
