Didnt Get Banded Yesterday :(
FLORIDAYS replied to Bel1014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TSH is a test for thyroid issues ... I just wonder why that would prevent surgery. I am sorry your day was spoiled..hopefully they can get it under control and band you at a future date.in the meantime you can still eat like a bandster.... And lose weight as you get into some good habits many of us struggle with early on, -
It sounds like you Equate food with love and a feeling of community. It's a time everyone gathers round the table to enjoy the food and the company. But you too can be part of this special time..., just take a few bites here and there, eat slow and enjoy the conversation.

My Weight Is Stuck. Help
FLORIDAYS replied to laizaone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok I am going to be frank. You had a nice loss going...what changed? If you aren't losing weight based on what you wrote something medical is going on.... Because if you are burning more calories than you consume you will lose weight. That's a fact. I was 377 when I started the pre op and didn't exercise... yet averaged 10 lbs a month to lose 216 lbs. might your calories be too high? 1000 to 1200 should be about right for you. Or maybe you aren't tracking your food and actually eating more calories than you think? If you are tracking are you also weighing and measuring your food? If I were you I would get into see the dr and be honest with yourself....and him and I bet the scales start to move. -

FLORIDAYS replied to Autumn2013's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
There are many doctors and while this one may have satisfied patients if he didn't make you feel 100% comfortable then you should find another one. -
Never had any issues.... You will have a brand new body to focus on. So will he.

Cereal/whole Wheat Toast/pasta/rice
FLORIDAYS replied to lovely29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its such an individual thing.... I can eat Cereal and whole wheat bread / toast. Pasta is dicey... as its a slider and hard to get it all chewed. Rice is not a good choice for me. I love it and try it all the time but it rarely agrees with me. Of course I keep my portions in tact... no more than a 1/4 c of starch per meal. -

Florida In January...need 16-18
FLORIDAYS replied to jg9956's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Florida has wonderful thrift shops... I agree that might be your best bet... take a morning and go shopping on your arrival. Lots of snowbirds here... with women who wear the clothes for 1 season and donate them... I bought almost everything for my vacation to Jamaica last month at consignment shops and goodwill. Everything was a major brand name..and were either new with tags or had dry cleaning tags on them. Tallbots, Ann Taylor, Tommy Hillfiger and Lilly Pulitzer... In fact the turqouse outfit on my "after" profile pic is a talbots green lightweight cardi... brand new. $4. The capris are brand new as well...Talbots ... $5.97. Both from Goodwill. My tank from Old Navy @ $5 on sale. Ebay is another great place to find steals this time of year. Where in FL are you headed? -
You will....I know it doesn't help much but in a few short weeks this will be a bad memory..I promise

This sort of treatment should be reported to someone.. Might you be able to find another band dr who might take you and give you the support you need?

This Isnt How I Thought Id Feel!
FLORIDAYS replied to lisapereira66's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can tell you from personal experience that at. 377 It took a long time for people who didn't know I was banded to notice my weight loss, in fact I remember when I hit a loss of 100 lbs I went to a conference with coworkers I see once a year. Several asked if I had a new hair style, I was like... I have lost 100 lbs...why haven't you noticed??? But I was still at 277 lbs so I was still fat. Fast forward to the 2nd 100 lbs lost and it's a HUGE change !! People will walk across the street to see if it's really me... It's amazing their reaction and when I say I have been dieting 2 years they seem surprised. And for me... I still see a heavier girl even though I now am in a size 6 on top and 8/10 bottom. But my aha moment came a few weeks ago....doing laundry and I pulled my jeans out of the dryer and wondered why my daughters jeans were in with my clothes... Lol. I realized they were mine and it was like...wow I am pretty thin!! -
I was on a liquid diet in the early 90s and lost 100 lbs in like a week and a half....lol. Of course that's an exaggeration but it was very fast... A few Months maybe I had the worst pain one day and was admitted for emergency gall bladder surgery... Luckily they were able to do it laparoscopically but of course I had to get off the liquid diet and put the weight right back on It's no fun but at least you will never have to worry about it again Feel better!

I wasnt familiar with it but in looking at the food requirements... I think you need to discuss it with your Dr. I am concerned you wont get the proper nutrition so crutial to banded and non banders alike.
-
My Dr said anything that can be chewed to a puree form is acceptable. However you need to be careful you dont swallow something before its pureed.... so like wildrose said... use a blender. I ate alot of tuna, cottage cheese, applesauce, soup, carrots mashed and hummus. Lots of people like yogurt and beans as well. You can do navy beans in a crock pot and cook them down for a few days... lots of good protein. .

agreed... I didnt get on a scale my entire life and it got me to 377 lbs... I would never divorce mine... hell I'll even sleep with it. LOL

Questions About Foods To Eat/drink
FLORIDAYS replied to msmarylou's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just curious.... what is the purpost of these supplements when you should be getting all your nutrition from foods? -
Bandsters should avoid gum because if you swallow it it could be an issue for the band according to my Dr. Mentos have sugar calories so I would opt for the breath strips over candy. Check with your Dr to be sure.
-
My scale isnt the same as my drs. But to not have a tracking device at home wouldnt work for me... I also bought a decent scale but its still 2 lbs higher than my dr. I just use it as a rule of thumb....
-
That confidence will give you so much power....congratulations.
-
you must drink to keep up your energy...I am usually on liquids for 24 hours then mushies for 24 hours after that. 3 days seem to be alot on clears but I believe you have a larger band than I do. Just make sure when you do go to solids to chew everything to a puree form in your mouth.

As you know facing the music head on is better in the long run..... it will make you accountable and less apt to want to go through it again next month!
