Does anyone else worry they will fail with the band?
FLORIDAYS replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is. Also I can say having been on numerous diets.... when you stop pick a name diet... you revert back to bad habits. With the band... when I stopped my losing stage... I didnt change my eating. Just maybe a few things here and there but my band governed my ability to over eat. And I knew that going back to fast food and high calorie things wouldnt agree with me so I just do not eat them. Thats why I beleive the weight will stay off this time. -
Back at the office ...first time since tt surgery... feeling fine but tired.... good things its an easy week for the most part.

Did you have a calorie limit for the pre-op diet?
FLORIDAYS replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on 5 Optifast shakes and all the water I could drink. I could also have tea, coffee and 2 sugar free popsicles.... so I guess that would have been 850 calories. I lostt 22 lbs. -

Popcorn is funny.... for me it goes down fine but I spend the next hour bringing up the skins of the kernels... But I eat it alot... Not the kind in the movie theatre... the 100 calorie bags from the store. -

I think to be sure I would call the insurance coordinator at your Drs office.... they have no doubt been asked this before. Better to be safe than sorry. -

20 pounds down... and nervous
FLORIDAYS replied to Pana'sNewStart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you continue to eat less calories than you burn you will lose more weight and never have a gain. For me I found tracking my calories once I started on mushies helped me keep it in line. Best wishes! -

Which foods to avoid for new bands
FLORIDAYS replied to Sav22age's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think its so individualized that it would be hard to identify foods which you might have trouble with. My dr suggests white breads, white pasta, popcorn. skinned fruits and anything you do not chew well enough may give you a problem. But its trial and error. Just concentrate on chewing!!! -
Pain suddenly ended, should I worry?
FLORIDAYS replied to ManilaKyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may be able to feel your port as its sewn into the wall of your abdomen... but you cannot feel your band... its wrapped around your stomach which is behind the liver...so its not accessable to our feel. If you have no pain that sounds pretty normal to me. Congrats! -
. Been up watching the Seminoles... my alma matter playing in a college football game when I should be sleeping since I have to go back to work tomorrow....oh well... It will be a short week!!!

Welcome...congratulations on being banded!! To answer your questions... What got me thru the liquid diet was that I was scared to death to do anything wrong which would prevent me from having a perfect surgery. My dr was very specific about all the reasons I needed to commit to the liquid diet...and I figured if I couldn't do it right I wasn't 100% committed to the journey. So I had a perfect pre op diet, a 22 lbs loss and a successful surgery. I prepare food for my family the way I always did. I don't make 2 meals. Pre and post op obviously i couldnt eat what they ate but after that On the rare occasions that I couldn't eat what they did... I just modified my choices. The biggest challenge ....hmmm I suppose just learning what I could and couldn't eat, how to manage when I all of a sudden woke up and realized I needed a fill and learning to track my portions and count every calorie. But honestly I didn't find it overly difficult. I was so focused and followed my plan to a T that it came easier than I expected. Best wishes for your success!

New here and getting excited!
FLORIDAYS replied to mama angela's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and best wishes on your journey....you will have some time to reprogram yourself and your eating habits...that will put you in great shape for the band!! -
Just focus on the task at hand...you are embarking on a wonderful journey. Know that the first few days of liquids can be rough but do not give in to the need for food...it's just fuel...and the liquid will prep you for a successful surgery. Best wishes.

mourning the loss of food

FLORIDAYS replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sorry your dr wasn't very helpful... The way mine described mushies is to be the consistency of baby food...for toddlers. That said..meat is tough to eat and digest so if you want it...put it in a blender. Bread and Pasta should be avoided in the mushie stage...But once one solids it's fine in 1/4 c portions. In mushies I ate tuna, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus, Soup, oatmeal...things like that. -
mourning the loss of food
FLORIDAYS replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A typical day for me once I was on solids is.. At every meal... 3 oz protien, 1/2 c veggie and 1/4 c starch... Three times a day. I also had usually 2 snacks.. One fruit and one sweet or crunchy... Sacks were no more than 100 calories each. My total calorie intake during my Losing stage was 1000 -
Welcome and best of luck on your journey!!!

mourning the loss of food
FLORIDAYS replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I assume you must be a late riser.... Because by 3p I would have had over 1/2 of my daily calories...but of course you need to eat on a schedule that works for you.. I found eating the same times most days helped me plan my eating and look forward to the next meal.It does get easier but it is a huge mental game until you get to the Green zone... So you ned to busy yourself and find distractions so you don't make yourself nuts!!! hang in there! -
mourning the loss of food
FLORIDAYS replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The point of the band is to eat until your are satisifed not full...so I am not quite sure what you mean....unless you aren't in the green zone yet and you are talking about not having any restriction. Either way...sounds like you need to find other things to do besides eating, thinking about eating or planning to eat. Read, walk, run, shop...do anything to get your mind off eating... It will help a lot. But just one question... You said you have had 2 scrambled eggs today... What time is that for you? Because unless that was just the first meal...no wonder you are hungry ...
