Friday morning one of my employees was a no call no show.... Missing work is Not completely atypical for this particular guy as he does seem to use his PTO as fast as he earns it...but not to call with a lame excuse is odd. As the morning wore on I could t help but thinking I should call the hospitals or jails.... But I didn't. He is an adult and can pick up a phone. Yesterday I got a call on my cell from an employee pretty close to him... She was worried as she hadn't seen any Facebook posts since Thursday about dinner time. She called a few people....nothing.... She looked up who's in jail online....nothing. So she started calling hospitals. He had been to the ER on Thursday night but was released. Somehow she got hold of his landlord and asked for a wellness check... He was dead in his apartment. The details are sketchy...but we found out he had been mugged at a gas station on Thursday night going out to get cigarettes. Beat up pretty good and left for dead. They took his money, credit cards and iPhone.... Police came and off to the hospital he went. He was released on Friday night.... But had no phone and evidentially was on pain medication and went to sleep so didn't call anyone.... No family or friends or work... Sometime between Friday night and 9 pm on Saturday he died.... It's just so sad.... And makes you count your blessings and hug your loved ones a little tighter.... Because life is so uncertain....

Tummy tuck and breast left on Tuesday 12/18
FLORIDAYS posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am less that 12 hrs away from another drastic step in my life as I go under the knife once again to improve the fabulous results that the lapband and my hard work over the last 2 years afforded me. My tummy tuck and breast lift is all set. gone will be my Jello belly and frowning belly button. The girls are getting lifted and some air will go back in the tires... I have lost so much weight that they now resemble half inflated Water balloons... Those long ones....I don't want to look like a twenty year old..... Just a healthy 52 year old woman who isn't quite done having a good life. I received a call from the dr and the anesthologist which I though was pretty cool. Both just wanted to make sure I was ready to go and had any last minute questions. Very classy. I have been nesting all day...at work making sure i left my desk so that i wont be missed too much....lol and at home doing things i fear my not be so easy in the coming days before Christmas. Just took the mega dose of antibiotics that the dr gave me...took me 20 minutes to swallow the 3 caplets. My band is just a constant reminder..... And I am getting ready to take my last warm bath for a while. Thought I would check in here as you all have become a wonderful support team and I appreciate your dedication to your health and well being. See you on the other side.... -
Getting close to my surgery date
FLORIDAYS replied to dmccord0213's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are starting at about the same weight I was...and in less than 2 years I am wearing a size 6!!! The time will fly and you will be enjoying your healthy new body in no time! -
My dr told me when I started on solids that I was to eat 3 oz of protien at each meal. He despises the shakes because he feels they do not fill you up like food does and the band isn't meant to be a liquid diet once you are on solids. Of course this is just his opinion but one I adhered to with great success.

It's a shame people need to be reminded of basic manners but thank you for all you do to make LBT an informative, fun place to visit.

I do not vomit... I eat with people on a daily basis and I have lost 220 lbs in less than 2 years. My band life is exactly like my pre band life except I make good food choices, track calories, measure portions and go to the dr on a regular basis for him to measure my progress and get the fills I need to keep me honest. Its a commitment and lifestyle change as the band only does 70% of the work. You may be reading posts from people who were not willing to do their 30%!! -
very worried about my surgeon!

I am not sure how a band is installed upside down... But no matter if you are concerned... Change doctors.. -
i am ip early and on the road by 630 most days and I cannot eat that early so I bring my breakfast to work with me and have a hot beverage driving to the office then eat breakfast around 9am

The hardest thing about the band is the un known.... and the dr has heard it all. I am sure he can offer you some relief.

That's wonderful! Congratulations!!!

Best wished for your success. You seem to have a great attitude and sounds like your will be just fine. -

Tummy tuck and breast left on Tuesday 12/18

Hi As you can tell by my pics... My port does not stick out to be noticable. It just to the right of my belly button if youlook at the pic. Before my tummy tuck it actually did...althought my husband said I was the only one who saw it.. LOL Since the tt the skin is stretched pretty thin and I can feel it like before but it doesn't look like an egg in all the saggy skin. Hope that offers some explanation. -
A cup of steak is the same as a cup of ground beef, lettuce, ice cream or popcorn.... But as others have said its best to use a scale for measuring meat. I usually eat 3 oz of protien at every meal.

I hope to get more details tomorrow..... Just for closure and so I have something to tell his co workers.... They are going to take it hard. Just a waste of a young ...he was 32... Life over a few bucks.... I know there was nothing I could of done... He was just in the wrong place evidentially at the wrong time... But it's still so tragic. I hate to say but I am thankful he was single leaving behind few... as his parents had passed and he had no wife or children.

If you used FMLA for your surgery then a follow up appointment MAY be covered if they don't want to get picky. But the more obvious question... Is it possible for you to get a dr who isn't 3 hrs away? Then you could go on your lunch hour or before or after work....

You are working out already? Wow...good for you... My dr wouldn't let me do exercise for a month. That said... Are you on solid foods yet? If so are you tracking your calories? Even tho this is a time for healing we still need to be aware of what we eat and drink. Have you gained anything?
-
Its a horrible tragedy.... I am so sorry!! Remember....When a door closes.... A window opens. hard to think about right now but in time you will rebuild and it will somehow be for the better.
-
I would agree with the others. You need to do whatever you can to get in to see the dr. There is no way for you to diagnose yourself and not doing it could be a crucial mistake. Best wishes.

How long will I probably need to be out of work?
FLORIDAYS replied to Krista74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 5 days off from my desk job.... but I wasnt allowed to lift more than 10 lbs for a month.... -
Everyone has to do what is best for themselves. I too was self pay because my insurance didnt think it was medically necessary.... I was a 55 BMI. The band is alot about changing your habits...something I didnt do after any of my diets... If you can do that you are home free. Best of luck.

How often do you weigh yourself?
FLORIDAYS replied to vlp1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
fluctuations dont bother me so I get on the scale in the morning and again at night. I tried to do it weekly but I am way to impatient .... This works for me and holds me accountable.
