    The 5:2 diet

I am really hoping this 5:20 plan is going to work for me. The fact that I turned 60 this year, and that I have a man in my life, makes things so different than when I had WLS 7 years ago. It was so much easier when I didn't have anyone eating around me, and didn't have those temptations in the house. Having someone in the house who can eat whatever they want and not gain weight is extremely difficult. Truthfully, I had WLS so that I could have a man in my life. So I guess I should not complain that he tempts me, lol. I like that I am forced to not eat after 12 hours. That is my biggest problem, snacking at night. Fasting has gone really well so far today and it's been really good for me to be so aware of every bite I put into my mouth. Does anyone think that the 5:2 plan should be a group? I can't remember how the groups work, but I thought you had to join the group to post.
  2. These kinds of stories really freak me out. I see it all the time here too. I know a woman who got down to 145 from 400 lbs and has gained all her weight back. The older you are, the harder it gets. Being mindful is about the most important thing. Doing my fast today, I realized how much stuff I stick in my mouth mindlessly. And yes, Dee, we will be dieting the rest of our lives. We prefer to think of it as changing our eating habits though. We know if we are not mindful of our eating habits, we will gain weight. Just because I had the majority of my stomach removed over 4 years ago, that does not change the calorie counts in foods that I love and can eat, if I am not mindful that I have the disease of obesity.

    The 5:2 diet

thanks! It's so hard to remember not to stick things in my mouth mindlessly, in between meals. I must be vigilant!
  4. This is no easy task and it doesn't get any easier. The farther out I am, the more normal I feel. I am NOT normal. I never will be. I had lost all of my weight with the band. I gained a little while I was unfilled waiting for revision surgery. Then I got the sleeve and it made life so wonderful the first 3 years. I felt full all the time and didn't have eating on my brain in between meals. The thing that bugs is the amount and how easy junk food goes down. 6 lbs turns into 10, 10 turns into 12-13 and here I am struggling with a 15 lb regain. The scary part is I have been trying since I gained the first 5 lbs. I know part of it is because I am older. I hear about it and read about it all the time. The old you get, the more your metabolism slows down. Yay. just what I need. I am liking the 5:2 diet. I noticed the day after my 500 calorie day, I didn't want to graze all day. And I love my new trainer. All I can do is keep trying.

    The 5:2 diet

I did really well on my first fast day but I've gained back what I lost . It is a holiday weekend though. I still have hopes that I'll be able to do this. I noticed after the fast day, the next day, I didn't feel the need to graze. I'm anxious to get this holiday weekend out of the way and see how it goes next week. I have to lose 10 lbs and that's all there is to it.!

    Lets be honest...

Most complications from WLS are from the RNY also called gastric bypass surgery.
  7. I hate to say this, but I am glad I am finally not alone in this fight . I have to go back and read the last few posts, but I was really getting discouraged reading how easy it was for everyone else to lose if they gained a couple lbs. I had wls almost 7 years ago. I am NOT going back to being fat. But this is a very hard battle, when you're used to the sleeve taking care of hunger.

    The 5:2 diet

Quest bars are high calorie, high carb but they are also high in Fiber so it's a toss up. I tried to fast yesterday and didn't do very well, so I decided to go for it tomorrow. I'm still going to try to have a low carb dinner, but I did have a taco bell taco for lunch because I didn't bring anything to work. I think they are only 200 calories though. I need to look on their website. I don't think I am going to be able to do Protein Shakes on my fast days. That's what I tried yesterday and I was too hungry. I really do think this should be moved to the vets forum.
  9. I love to warm the brownie Quest bars. They are yummy that way and not even good if they aren't warm. I love the power crunch bars. I am addicted to those. The peanut butter and chocolate ones are way too good. I just have to make sure to count my calories because those protein bars add up fast.

    The 5:2 diet

I really want this to work . It's going to be hard for me to figure out how to best use my 500 calories. I would be so happy if I only lost 10 lbs so I should be able to make this work. I just don't know how you do it with other family members. I told me bf ( I never know what to call him. He's 62 years old so bf seems kind of dumb. partner makes me sound like I am gay. I have nothing against that, but he's a man) Anyway, I told him he's going to have to eat out of the house. He drags all that sugar stuff home cause he can eat and not gain weight and eats sugar all day long. I just hope once I get going, it won't take as much willpower, it will just come more naturally.

    The 5:2 diet

I think I will do my fasting on tues and thurs. I work all day on Mondays only and it would be more difficult. I'll see how it goes. Maybe being at work would be better and I would not think of food because I would be busier. I've been thinking for a long time I want to do Protein Shakes only a couple days a week, so this really is perfect for me. My shakes are 120 calories each, so that still gives a little wiggle room for veggies.

    The 5:2 diet

Can somebody just give me a quick recap of the diet? I haven't had time to read all 10 pages. I know it's fasting 2 days out of 7. There's something about a 12 hour window of when you can eat? On the fast days we can have Protein Shakes?
  13. I am so glad this thread was started. When I first started struggling, all I could find were posts that said " I stay with in 5 lbs of my goal. If I see I am up, I just eat Protein for a few days I am right back at goal." It made me feel like a complete failure. That used to work for me to, and then one day, those few lbs would not come off! Now it's a struggle every day not to eat the things I see everyone around me eating, who are not gaining weight. they are just normal people without the disease of obesity.

    The 5:2 diet

Thanks for the link to this thread. this sounds like just what I've been looking for. I have a friend that's doing very well with something she calls intermittent fastIing. I Just need to read this and figure out what you guys are talking about. This seems logical to me. I was thinking about fasting but I was not sure if it was just Water , or how exactly you fast.
  15. I am completely freaking out. My regain is about 15 lbs and no matter what I do, it won't come off. I'm not grazing. I am eating right. I can't exercise as much as I used to. I used to go to the gym almost 7 days a week. I can't go on the weekends anymore. My life is completely different now than it was 4 years ago. I'm 60 years old and it seems like like my metabolism has come to a complete stand still. Some days I wake up and weigh myself and I've gained 2 lbs and I was totally on track the day before. It's like I have to live on salad to keep the regain at 10 lbs. None of my clothes fit. I hate this. I've been dieting my entire life other than the first few months post op, when the weight was falling off and I had no desire to eat.

How is your water tasting now?

I can only drink Water at room temp. I have a filter on my faucet. When I am anywhere else, I try to find water that isn't cold. Some people say it's the PH of water. Try bottled water because they put other things in bottled water. I do drink things with stevia but I try really hard not to have anything with aspertame in it.

    Have to be re-sleeved!

Who is going to pay for this? Is it covered by insurance? Where do you live? It definitely seems like you need to have a 2nd opinion by a surgeon who has done a lot more sleeves than this doctor. Sometimes you can do it by sending another doctor your records. Your scope should be on a disc that you can get a copy of.

    Tap water

If you're having heartburn, you should talk to your doctor about it. Most sleeved people are on an acid blocker. I can drink tap Water, but not cold. The only way I can drink it is room temp.

Satiety foods for post goal hunger?

Boy, there are a lot of good recipes on this thread! I am definitely going to make those deviled eggs. I normally hate eggs but I do like egg salad. I did get kidney stones and I still have them. I try to drink and drink but sometimes I forget. I even had kidney stone surgery to blow them up, but my urologist said I still have a lot of "sand" I definitely have a protein drink for breakfast every morning. I like them and look forward to them. I wouldn't have breakfast if it weren't for them. I hate going out to breakfast because everything on a breakfast menu is full of carbs. I have a 100 calorie pack of cocoa dusted almonds every night. If they weren't in portioned sized bags, I know I would eat way too many.

    Hunger and dieting

I still exercise as much as I can. I was 60 in October so I am already 60 1/2. I wish I could stop the clock. There are some things that come from menopause that no amount of dieting and exercise are going to change. My gym got a new trainer. I am hoping he can show me some new things. I am so tired of doing the same things all the time.

    I am obsessed

I had a face lift. My face is numb and it's been 2 years. I like the way my face looks, but I'm very disappointed that the numbness has never gone away. It's a very weird feeling.

    Hunger and dieting

I'm 4 years out and I am just now starting to feel a lot of hunger again. I hate it. Like everyone else, weight gain really freaks me out. I have clothes that don't fit me anymore and it really makes me very sad. I think it would be a little bit easier if I were younger. I am just plain tired. I can't do the amount of exercise I used to be able to do. My neck and spine hurt all the time. I do go to a support group, once a month. The nutritionist comes to the meetings, and he says exercise is not the key. Eating right is the key. It's very hard to eat tiny portions now. I am trying to eat more vegetables and salads but I am so tired of all of this. I have been dieting all my life. It's really difficult to order a salad while friends and family are eating pizza. I'll keep plugging along though. I still have my tool and I know the basics. I just hope that's enough to keep maintaining.

    asking a crazy?

You need to drink a lot for both reason, so you don't get constipated , and for the kidney stones. I just had to have my kidney stone blasted and now I have what he called sand from them being broken up.. I am like you. I have a hard time drinking Water. My urologiest told me to drink lemonaide because the citric acid prevents kidney stones. The crystal light lemoaide at room temp goes down the easiest for me.

    How do you handle PMs?

Can't wait to see the new community . I hope it's not too much different than this one .. We always complain until we get used to a new format. It's hard at first..
  25. It was like that for me before. If I had a cheat meal and I gained a couple of lbs, it went away immediately. At about 3 years is when if I had a cheat meal, no matter what I did, the couple lbs I gained would not go away. Then I had another cheat meal and that lb didn't go away either. That's how the weight regain started.
