Vets: Calling all consistent loggers on MFP!

I m really having trouble logging. It seems so difficult to me. I know it will get easier. I looked in my book for Havarti cheese. There was a huge difference between what the book said and what MFP says. So you have to weigh things like a piece of cheese that was cut at a deli counter?

    Bowel movements

You can take stool softeners. They are tiny. You don' t have to open them or crush them. The easiest thing until you get to eat more fruit and veggies is Miralax.

    Need suggestions. First grocery trip

That's a big problem for most people when they are first sleeved. You won't be able to get enough Fiber so you should just take Miralax for a few days. At one month, you should only be eating soft fruit like canned fruit, refried Beans with melted cheese and sour cream is good, egg salad. tuna salad, hamburger meat crumbled up like chili, cottage cheese, and there is a good recipe in the food forum for a ricotta bake that's good.

How was your 5:2 day today?

UK Cathy, I think that's what so great about eating this way . I you have a bad day, fasting seems to put us back on track. I know now that i am always going to be eating this way. It would seem that I could stay at goal (if I get back there) as long as continue to eat this way, even if I get to a satisfactory weight.

How was your 5:2 day today?

My parents are both gone. They struggled with their weight all their lives until they got old. Then I would have to force them to eat. It was strange. They both were very thin when they died. I had a root canal today so it was easy to fast. I went to bed around 5 and slept until almost 8 so that took care of that head hunger. I need to learn to log in so I can get the correct calories. I looked up Havarti cheese in my book and it didn't give me the weight. It has to make a difference whether it's cut thick or thin. Laura which one do you use? I want anything that's easy. MFP doesn't seem all that easy. then do you weigh your slice of cheese if it's cut at a deli counter?

    New member introductions

That's great news that your nutritionist approves of this way of eating. I got the lap band after going to my daughter's wls support group with her. I found out about it and was thrilled to learn I could possibly lose weight. Life basically revolved around the band. I could only eat certain things, and I had better know where the bathroom was,if I went out to eat. I found out about the sleeve and got to goal quickly. I was pretty much at goal from all the vomiting with the band, so life with the sleeve was so normal, I just loved it. The first 3 years it was pretty easy to stay at goal. If I ate wrong, I could make up for it by getting right back on track and lose a couple pounds that I had gained. Then all of a sudden, I could not lose the few lbs after the holidays. I kept trying, but I kept gaining another lb here and there. Pretty soon, I had put back 15 lbs on. I kept trying to lose it the only way I knew how. Protein first, lots of Water, exercise, but it wasn't coming off. I heard about this new way of eating . I read it was a good way to stay in maintenance after losing from a regain, so I decided to give it a try. I really like it because I am not hungry, and the 12 hour fast has stopped my late night snacking. I hope I can lose a total of 15 lbs slowly but surely!

    Technical questions

That's good to know though. If someone sees it, they can ask to join. We get a message saying we have a request to join and we can deny or approve. I made Coops and Georgia mods too so now there are 4 of us so there shouldn't be a down time when someone asks to join and one of us sees it.

    The 5:2 diet

Coops I think if you keep at it, you'll break your stall. If you're not eating more than you should on your non fast days, there's no reason you shouldn't. Do you know your TDEE? I am having mine checked at the doctor's on thursday by a machine and I am really looking forward to that. Then I'll know how many calories to eat on my non fast days. Can someone clarify the feast days? It says eat whatever you want. They mean within your TDEE, right?

Don't you hate it when your trainer says this...

I love it when my trainer challenges me. I've had trainers before who were more like exercise partners. I have a new one. He's killing me and I love it.

    The 5:2 diet

I don't know about any version other than what is on my lap top. I rarely use my tablet. If you're having any kind of technical questions, the go to person for that is Ken. It should say administrator under his name, from the drop down. He is Alex's right hand man for these types of issues I am really excited that I am 2 lbs lower than I have been in a year. I didn't gain back what I lost fasting and today is a fast day. I am sure I will stall and then I will be bummed, but I have high hopes that this is just what I needed to get the regain off. Dieting on my own plan sure was not working!

    Fast Day

I going to be fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. It was easier at work than when I tried a tuesday. Tuesdays I work at 1pm and off in the morning. I m really hungry but I don't want to eat til 11 so I can have a snack tonight. I've lost 2 lbs this week from this new way of eating. I didn't gain it back after fasting. I am excited!

    5:2

I approved everyone who wanted to be in. Once you're invited, if you accept, I don't have to approve anyone again. Maybe re-start your computer. If you're using a mobile version, I am of no help Ken, is also Alex's right hand man as far as computer issues go. Yes, everyone can read our posts. They can't post unless they are approved to join, which means they must fit our criteria. That is being 1 year post op and not making it to goal after following their surgeon's instructions. If they read the diet and they can follow it and try it for a week or two, they can join. They need to at least try the 2 days of fasting to see if they feel they can do it.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Are you going to go with him or will you be separated from your husband when he goes? I am so sorry. That owuld be so stressful. I'm doing pretty good today. I am not fasting today. I'm not clear on how many calories I'm supposed to eat on non fast days. I read one of the links and it said to feast on anything you want. That doesn't seem right? I'm not sure I guess I get this plan yet! I'm 2 lbs lower than I've been in a long time so I am really happy! I'm actually looking forward to fasting tomorrow. Plus I am having a root canal done so I don't think I'll be able to eat much tomorrow afternoon.

    Technical questions

I only use a lap top. I hope Alex can fix it. Who didi you say wants in and has not been invited?

To track or not to track?

I am going to my band doctor's office to be hooked up to a machine to find out my true TDEE. I never used to track. The sleeve was such a big help, I didn't need to. Now, I can eat way more than I should. I have a book Connie Netzger's complete food guide. I count calories out of there. I find MFP to be tedious. If I entered all my food in there, it would get easier, but I've never done that. I suggest tracking at least for a few days or you will gain weight, after you're sleeved a few years.

    Davanis vs Torani?

They have regular snow cone syrup that comes in sugar free. Maybe it's more concentrated than these two that you mentioned?

How was your 5:2 day today?

Yes! The more the merrier! I want everyone who wants to be a part of the group to be sure to let someone know so they can come here.

    What is 5:2

If you understand how the plan works, and you try it for 2 weeks and think it will work for you, you could join us in our 5:2 group. We don't want to exclude anyone, but we want everyone to give their surgeon's plan eat least 1 year. That link does not mention the 12 hour window. Once you eat Breakfast you can only eat for 12 hours. So I don;'t eat breakfast until 11 am so I can have a night time snack. I am a night owl, so I like to eat something around 10-11 pm

    Bras

I wore those tank tops that have a shelf bra built into them. Those seemed to work for me but I am small.

    Motivation flagging? Recommended read

It's hard. food is everywhere. It's easy in the beginning because after surgery, it's hard to eat, and we are so full so fast. Now that we can eat fairly normally again, it's hard not to go back to old habits. Having the sleeve takes just as much willpower to stay away from junk as it does without a sleeve. If someone knows good strategies I'd be thrilled to hear them. I know at work, I have to cover the candy bowls with file folders.

    What is 5:2

How long have you been sleeved? Are you exercising? Those things play a pretty big part in the weight loss. We all lose weight more quickly at first, but then it slows way down, and we really have to work at getting the rest off, by tracking our food, and exercising.

How was your 5:2 day today?

I'm sorry to hear that Cheri. I didn't realize that was a possibility. I am contemplating going to the gym. I used to go every saturday but then got so busy on saturdays. I really should go because monday I am having a root canal so I probably won't be exercising much at the beginning of next week.

    5:2

Thanks for remembering who I skipped. I got a message that what we post is not private. People can read what we post, but they can't post unless they are invited. Thanks for taking care of that. I'm not on the computer all the time, and if I"m gone, I take my lap top, but it's not like it is the days I don't work and I just sit home. Then I check in more. I am down lower than I have been in a year. I was at a huge fair yesterday with every temptation imaginable. I lost 1 lb. I am thrilled. I was so afraid I was going to gain yesterday. I want to see 140 again soon. I was 147 this morning. My lowest after surgery was 127 but I don't expect so see that again. If I can go below 140 and stick between 135-140 I would be one happy old lady sleever!
  24. Yes, most people do gain at first from the fluids they pump into you. You'll start losing . Make sure to follow your doctor's post op eating plan. Don't be surprised if at 3 weeks you plateau for awhile everyone does.
  25. Thanks so much for doing this! It will be good to have our information all together in one place. This will be really helpful. thanks again!
