9 months out and struggling...grrrr
Oregondaisy replied to lilbearzmom's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
We all have days like that. It's taken me a long time to be mindful and think about whether I want to gain a lb or 2 or 3 if I have one of those days. I can keep it under control better, if I am having a stressful day, or just a day that everything sounds so good, and all I want to do is eat. Most of the time, I am able to talk myself out of it. For the most part, those days are a lot less frequent. The best part is, it does not go on for days. I get right back on track the next day. -
So hard letting go of old clothes
Oregondaisy replied to preetyfatchic's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I kept mine all packed up in boxes, for the longest time.I really did fear gaining weight back. I finally put them on here in the clothing exchange forum and took anything that wasn't perfect to Good Will. I sent all the nice stuff as I was going down in sizes to a girl on this board. She paid the cost of mailing it to her. It was a big box. I kept the next size up from what I was wearing and I am glad I did. There is a bounce back range where most people do gain 5-10lbs from their lowest. I have some of my tinest clothes that I can't wear. -
How was your 5:2 day today?

Whoo Hoo! Everyone is doing great! My brother is leaving tomorrow so life will get back to normal. I have gained 3 lbs back and I am not happy. I am pretty sure it will be easy to lose as soon as I start fasting again. I've only cooked for him 3 times. He wants to go out to eat all the time. No wonder he has gained so much weight! Luckily, my sleeve has not been letting me eat big portions, but I've eaten a lot of stuff I stay away from. It will be good to get my routine back. I can start posting more too, other than tomorrow when I will be driving him 2 hours back to the air port. I'll probably do some shopping while in the city too. We're running out of paint so unfortunately, I see Home Depot in there somewehre. -
How was your 5:2 day today?

I was able to catch up on a bunch of posts. I am out of town but I brought my lap top. Everyone is sleeping. We went to Red Lobster for dinner. I am in Portland so my son can see his uncle. I love being up here but there are way more temptations! I could not eat any of my dinner bc I ate 2 of their cheese biscuits and salad and then I was full. My brother must wonder why I eat so little. I am afraid to get on the scale. 5:2 was working so well for me but it's really impossible to fast and play hostess. I am really looking forward to fasting again and feeling in control again. Laura I am so happy to hear your thyroid was benign. -

Those dresses do not look like bridesmaids dresses, Cheri. I would be unhappy if I had to buy I dress I just did not like. Congrats Georgia! You better not leave us now that you're at goal. We need you here no matter if you're maintaining or whatever! I am trying really hard not to gain weight but it's really difficult with my brother here. I can't believe how much weight he's gained. he's always been the skinny one in our family. He's gained at least 50 lbs all in his belly. He is so much less active than he used to be too. It makes me sad bc my mom had high colesterol and heart attacks and he has high cholesterol and seems to be taking after her. I take after my dad, thank goodness. -

Well Germany sounds better than where you are. I am going to go shopping today for your care package, globe. Supposed to fast today . I hope my brother doesn't want to go out for dinner. I am going to think of a low cal dinner we can have tonight. He seems like he only eats one meal a day and Snacks the rest of the time. -
Your start date and start weight for the 5:2 method
Oregondaisy replied to No game's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree Georgia. My body seems to like this way of eating. I was trying so hard to lose my regain and nothing was working. Not exercising my brains out , and not cutting carbs down to almost zero. I love 5:2 and it seem like a perfect way to eat throughout maintenance for me. -

It's going to be really hard to fast with my brother here. For one thing, he doesn't know about my surgery. I never told him, and I feel like he would be upset if I told him now, 4 years later. I hope I can keep my head in this while he is here. -

Honestly Globe, I would love to send you a care package. My bf's son is in Afghanistan. We're getting ready to send him one. Those flat rate mail boxes make it so easy to ship stuff. What would you like? What can you have? I am not sure if you're where the heat gets to food. I have these chocolate whey chips you might like. You can eat it plain, or put it in stuff. I kind of like it with a tiny bit of milk over it like Cereal. I have many flavors of Protein powder. I can put some in a big zip lock bag. Tell me what you would love to have and I will send it! -

I am really sorry too Globe. I just got my computer back . I've been borrowing one which I hated to use and so I was skimming around and missed that post too. I don't know what FOB is either. Is there anything we can send you? -
heartburn hell!
Oregondaisy replied to wordygirl74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Aceves told me that Tums cause acid rebound. He recommends Gaviscon. You need to get on a PPI . Call your doctor and tell him/her about this heartburn and that your medication is not working. -

Definitey will be fasting tomorrow. I ate what I wanted at the labor day picnic but I am just going to have a Protein Shake for dinner. I'll stop eating and have my window correct but I definitely went over for my calories to be called a fast. -
It's normal to have stalls. Your body has to get used to it's new weight for awhile before it decides to give up any more pounds.

Only 2 days til I pick up my brother. i won't get to see my son and grand daughter until the 13th . I am trying to fast today, but I'll see what happens when I go to the labor day picnic I bet I'll be fasting tomorrow. -
Thank you! I think it's really important that I never stopped coming here since I got my lap band over 6 years ago. I would be lost without this board. I learn so much, and I get the support I need to be successful.

I just noticed that there is a special forum for those of us that are single. Let's get this going! There are a lot of issues with getting thinner and being single and gaining self esteem, etc. Let's talk!

Wow, I can't believe I've missed this thread. My weight gain started around 3 years out. I really wasn't doing anything differently. I would indulge more on the weekends, and gain a couple of lbs. Then all of a sudden, I dieted all week long, and I hadn't lost those 2 lbs, and it was time for the next weekend. Soon it was Christmas.Uh-oh! My labs after 4 years show I am usually anemic even though I take Bariatric Advantage Iron with vit c. My b12 was so high I was instructed to stop all b vitaimins. My vit D is normal after taking 10,000 a week for a long time. rest of my labs are normal. I am never hungry unless I eat a lot of carbs, or I can mistake hunger and acid sometimes. I am 4 years and 4 months out from surgery. I was really afraid I would never be able to lose my regain and I was very depressed about it, until I found the 5:2 plan and I've lost 10 of my 15 lb regain.

I am addicted to power crunch bars. Fiddle, we all binge. Bad habits are always lurking around the corner. It's mindfulness that must be practiced constantly. it's way too easy to let these bad habits come out and in weak moments, it's easy to give in.

could you make a link to where I can order that tool? that is pretty cool. I've heard doing it with zucchini is really good and I'd love to try it.

yes, it's been way harder to lose in my 40's harder even still in my 50's and we will see how well I do in my 60's. It's going to be very hard to fast tomorrow. I'm going to a big Labor Day picnic. I may have to fast tues. this week. I am getting more and more excited that I pick my brother up on Wed from the airport. Then it's going to be hard to stick to the plan for the next couple of weeks while we're running around and sight seeing and stuff. Plus we will be going out of town to Portland to see my son and DIL and adorable grand daughter. It's always hard there because they have all the restaurants that we don't have here. I'll be happy to maintain the next two weeks and go back to getting my head into losing after my brother goes back to Chicago. I did great today. It's so much easier when it's just me at home. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day holiday. I know we have some who aren't in the US too though. I have high hopes that I'll be getting my own lap top back tomorrow. It's been maddening not to have it. -
Great Article, what so many of us Vets have been saying on here

I can't help but chuckle when I see on people's sig line XXX lbs GONE FOREVER Little do they know how easy it is to put it back on. I am so thankful that I've been able to lose 10 of my 15 lb regain. I was freaking out. I kept thinking I was not going to be able to stop gaining. -

I have a recipe I could post where you use Protein Powder and I can't remember what else and microwave it. It's really good. It's kind of like cake but it's gooey in the middle, like a lava cake, if you've ever had that. I weighhed 110 in H.S. I am 5'2" tall. I weighed around 120 all through my 20's until I had kids. Now I am trying to get to 135 but now I am almost 61. I got cocky today and tried on some pants I haven't been able to wear. I could get them on and zipped, but I can't see how they would be comfortable even if I did get to 135. That would only be 6 more lbs. My body is not as toned since I haven't worked out with weights nearly as much this past year as I did my first 3 years of being sleeved. I ate all wrong today. We went to the movies and saw the Butler. It was such a good movie. I had popcorn and candy. I haven't really gone off the 5:2 since I started and I'll be back on track tomorrow. I am scared to gain any weight back. -
Giving up is the worse thing you can do because you'll be gaining weight. A lot of people have given you good advice here. It's up to you whether you take it and start really making an effort. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

That is really amazing. What a gorgeous picture! I really admire you for taking on such a hike!
