    Anyone see "Big Medicine"?

She was in Ohio. It looks like Dr. Currie or Curry who posts here could have fixed her. He's noted to be a top band surgeon. I can't even imagine that she had to get on a plane and fly to Texas. That's just crazy!
  2. The reason that it takes awhile to go away is as you lose the fat around the stomach, the band loosens up. Do you guys ever get afraid of being tight? I have had such slow weight loss, at the same time I am afraid to get tighter because of all the trouble and problems Audree is talking about. I am just now getting back to where I can eat again. I want to lose, but it scares me when you read about all the problems you can get from being too tight. One thing I am really afraid of is losing my band. I would hate to lose all the weight, and have something go wrong. It's so nice when you see people that you haven't seen for a long time, and they tell you how great you look. I have gone through this so many times, with losing it and gaining it back. I want this to be for keeps and that's what makes me afraid to get too tight, having reflux, pbing, etc. All of that is what is supposed to cause erosion or slips. I hope I am making sense. I know for right now, I can't get another fill until after I visit my dad, out of state. He doesn't know I am banded and I already made the mistake one time of going to visit him right after a fill and having him wonder why I can't eat. I don't want to listen to him lecture me on how I could have done this on my own without paying ten grand.
  3. Everyone is different. Some people do get great restriction from surgery without a fill. Most people need around 3 fills to finally have really good restriction. I know for me, I have to exercise. I have a very slow metabolism. Lily, you are just at the beginning. You are in what they call bandster hell. don't be too hard on yourself until you get a fill or several fills Then you'll start experiencing what you can and can't eat. Right now you are like someone with no band.

Was anyone banded in December of '06?

There are a lot of exercise DVD's that you could do at home. I hear a lot of people talking about them on here. Go to the exercise thread and you will find which ones people are recommending.

    Anyone in Oregon??

I am not sure what's going on Friday. It kind of depends on the weather. A friend of mine wants me to come to Portland for the weekend and help them get ready for a garage sale. They don't have AC so if it's really hot, I don't want to go. If I am in town, I would love to get together with you!

    Anyone heard of Dr.Tersigni?

I can't wait until you are both banded. I love Dr. Tersigni and all his staff. I wish both of you lived close enough to come to the support groups every month!

    Anyone see "Big Medicine"?

It's not on here yet, but I am waiting for it. Both of those shows are my favorites and i wait all week for them to come on. Those people that think that gastric bypass is going to end all their problems have some big surprises in store for them. Without the band, their pouches stretch. I know someone that had gastric bypass and was 450 lbs on her surgery date. She got down to 140 and is now at least 300 again. I think the band with the option of getting it tighter or loosened definitely beats having your insides rerouted. There are a lot of gastric bypass people who are now getting banded.

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Well! Nice to see this thread moving again! It's very frustrating to eat right and not see the scale move. I get afraid that I am done losing and have lost all that I will. But I have to keep telling myself that I am wearing clothes that I haven't worn in 5 years, and I would have only gained more weight at the rate I was going. I love my band!

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Welcome to all the new single bandsters! Yay! You are all so smart getting this done so young. I wish I had done it years ago!
  10. I lost 22 lbs during my liquid stage before my first fill.

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Audree, I am always glad to see you here. It sounds like you have a pretty tight fill. Going on liquids sounds like a good plan. Some days, it's protein drinks for me too. I seem to be able to get protein bars down pretty well too, if I chew well. Crunchy things seem to go down easier. I hope you do start posting regularly again. I miss you when you aren't here!
  12. I exercise. I know it will be hard to do with 3 little kids. Some gyms provide day care, if you can afford a gym membership. Otherwise, try to find someone to watch the kids so you can go for a brisk walk. I am amazed at how much better I feel after some sort of exercise.
  13. I sometimes have pain in my bicep too. I always wonder if it's band related. I can have pain anywhere in my left arm actually, not just the shoulder. It's very weird.

    Thread Killers

Okay, somebody has to tell me how that was done. Is that a computer generated thingy? I know, I am pretty dumb when it comes to stuff like that.:rolleyes That said, that was hilarious!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience, Indigo Girl. That hospital sounds awful. I am really glad I came home right after surgery. The thing that filled me up the most after surgery when I was on liquids was definitely soup and not protein drinks. I seemed to be hungry immediately after drinking one of those . Can you have yogurt? I was able to have yogurt right after surgery and those helped a lot too. Maybe this will make you feel better. I lost 22 lbs when I was on the liquid phase!

    A thread for Single Bandsters

It is hard to eat with people who don't know about the band. At the same time, I don't want to tell every person in my life. I manage to work around that though. Neveragain, I think it's kind of funny that you're a guy, and you're so much younger than me, but yet we all have identical thoughts. You hang in there. Chrispy is right. You deserve someone that is going to be crazy about you. And look at the bright side. You have a lot of time to find the girl you're looking for. Here I am at 54, and guys my age look like little old men to me. :cry Eileen, good luck with your surgery! Soon you'll be losing all sorts of weight. I hope you love your band. Even though I haven't lost as much as I would like, I know I would be heavier by now, and I am thrilled to be down anything at all. I tried for so long without the band and only gained weight. JC I can't believe you can ride that bike so far! That's amazing! Chrispy, I can't wait for the next installment. At least someone is getting to go out on dates! Whoo HOO!:clap2:

    Spend the night?

This is lap band talk. If someone has the RNY I don't think they would be posting here.
  18. I have two really close girlfriends. Nothing has changed really, other than one is a big binge eater. I have to be very careful when I go to her house. I don't go to her house as much as I used to, but we go out to lunch. She had open heart surgery at age 53, so hopefully, she will be developing better eating habits.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

You're risking having your band slip later on down the road. The reason for liquids is so that the band can heal on your stomach without having to digest foods.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I am excited that I finally found some pants to fit me today. I got black pair of capri's and a pair of jeans. This having nothing to wear was getting very old!
  21. Jane, you're just like me. I have a wedding to go to this weekend and I am mad that my daughter can't go shopping with me tomorrow. She had RNY and I was just over at her house trying on all her rejected clothes. Unfortunately, all the clothes that are too big for her, are still too small for me. I don't like shopping without her either. I have actually been enjoying the rain. I am a weirdo. I get tired of the rain in the winter, but I don't like it when it doesn't rain all summer either.
  22. Julie, you should join us on the singles thread. We talk a lot about what you're talking about. I personally don't have anyone asking me out, but there are some gals closer to your age that are having fun dating, and dealing with band issues. You have done so great! I can't believe how much weight you've lost. Congratulations!
  23. I don't think it's worth not getting banded. Not everybody has it. I never had it right after surgery, when I was supposed to have it. I definitely get it if I eat too much. It's a good reason to stop eating. My dr. doesn't want us eating more than 2/3 of a cup of food.
  24. Oregondaisy

    ??? What about eating out?

Yes it's true! I would be lost without lapband talk! I am on here every night and every day after work. I wouldn't want to experience the band without a computer.

WHAT FOODS GETS STUCK or give you problems?

I got stuck on cooked broccoli tonight. I didn't chew it well enough and I didn't wait long enough in between bites. It's definitely a new way to eat, once you have the band!
