  1. I know a lady that was 450 lbs when she had the gastric bypass. She got down to 140 lbs. and is now over 300 lbs again. It's so easy to stretch the pouch with gastric bypass. I also know a lot of people that have had horrible problems with malnutrition, anemia, etc because with gastric bypass you don't absorb what you need out of food. I know a lady right now that has been hospitalized the past 2 weeks because of complications from her gastric bypass that she had a couple of years ago. Lap band is so much safer!

Probably not the place to say it but...

I was banded on a friday and went back to work on Monday.

Help My husband is forcing me to eat.

Tell him that your doctor told you that the lap band is designed to have you only eat 3 oz at a time.

You need an unfill. I can't believe your doctor won't give you one!

    A thread for Single Bandsters

I never stopped thinking about dating. I have been online at all the dating sites, and there are so many people on there that say they are looking for someone thin and trim, that I just don't see anything happening for me until I am closer to goal weight. Have you considered the possibility of placing an ad on one of the sites for bbw? I already have kids, so maybe Chrispy would be better to answer this for you.
  6. PB stands for productive burp. It's just a polite way of saying throwing up. With a pb though, it's sometimes like a burp but food comes up with it. Sometimes it's more like all out puking. We try to avoid that because it irritates the stomach and most people have to go on liquids for awhile to let the stomach rest. I am on liquids today as a matter of fact, because I can tell my esophagus is sore. If something does not pass through the band, it's stuck in the esophagus and it hurts. As far as eating, call your doctor and find out if you can have soup. I was able to have soup but I had to put it in the blender and make sure there were no chunks. Soup seemed to fill me up better than protein shakes.
  7. I started exercising 3 years ago in my last attempt to lose weight. I did cardio and weight training 6 days a week, and never lost any weight. In fact, I continued to gain slowly. BUT and this is a big one for me, I was able to get off my antidepressants. Now that I am banded, I am glad I already had the exercise habit. Today I was very excited because our gym finally got a trainer and he pulled my name out of the fish bowl and I get a free week of training sessions. I am ready to learn some new things, and he said his specialty is breaking plateaus and weight loss. I am so happy about this!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I use it all the time. They are local restaurants. There is a Mongolian BBQ where you pick out all your veggies and meats and they stir fry it. I have used it at the Sizzler, and the Sweet Tomato, which are about the only chains. I use it at Chinese places and Mexican places. I have never showed it to anyone and have them say I couldn't use it. They let me order off the senior menu or the kids menu. Someone said kid's menus were hot dogs and stuff, but here, it's the same menu with smaller portions for a cheaper price.

I already have a card like that. I use it all the time. It allows me to order smaller portions. It says I have had stomach surgery and can only eat small portions.
  11. Way to go Julie! I am excited today. Our gym finally got a trainer. I was wondering how I was going to afford some sessions with all the expenses I have had lately. I put my name in a drawing and he pulled my name out. I get 5 free sessions. My first one is tomorrow! Yay!

If you find the answer Manatee, clue me in. I live in a small town and it's really hard to meet new people.

Ten years with the Lap Band

When you say revision, are you talking about having had a different type of surgery after the band?

    Help...i Am Hungry!!!

I don't see why you couldn't have those things you mentioned. Carrots are high in carbs though, and carbs set off the hungry feeling. Tuna is protein, and protein stops hunger. I 'd skip the carrots and eat the tuna and green beans or brocolli.
  15. Too much protein is bad for the liver and kidneys.

I have trouble now getting all the water in, ever since my last fill. I wait the hour, but it takes a long time to drink a glass of water. Every time I take a drink, I have to burp. I have been trying really hard to get enough water in. I don't have a problem waiting the hour, I just have trouble drinking all that I am supposed to.

JC, try Unisom. It works pretty well. Just read the label. There is a unisom that has the same ingredients as Benydral , and another one with a different ingredient. The different one works best. Leona, I would just bring it up by asking something about being exclusive. Unless you still feel like you want to date other people.

Bubble, are you going to be getting together with any of these people while I am there? IT would be fun to talk to some more bandsters!

Happy Birthday, Derby! Have fun with that cake and ice cream. You're right. It's your birthday and it's only once a year. Leona, I wish I had your problems!! Thanks for the affirmations! Smilin Apple, I would do the Atkins diet if I were you. If you eat all Protein, you won't be hungry at all. It's the digestion of carbs that cause hunger pains. I lost really well and fast on the Atkins diet. I just couldn't keep it off. But you'll get the band, and you won't have to worry about that!
  22. I noticed you were a fellow Oregonian! I thought of you this weekend when I went to Portland. I know that I have used the elliptical machine a lot over the past 3 years, and I can really work up a good sweat. I just think it's boring and I feel like I am accomplishing something great when I jog. The stair stepper is pretty good too, without as much impact as jogging. I really don't understand why jogging hurts the back. I always heard it was bad on the knees.
  23. I am bummed out that my ortho doctor told me I had to quit jogging. I feel like I will never get to goal without it. He took x rays of my back and said it's worse. I don't want to mess my back up anymore than it already is. He told me I am going to have to be happy with walking fast, or the elliptical machine. I really don't belong in this thread. I am not all that close to goal, but I enjoy reading about how well all of you are doing. Julie, I am so happy for you that your date went well. Even though I am 54, I would so love to have a date!

    Slow Losers - Unite!

I completely agree. It's so much fun in the beginning to see the scale dropping, but we can't expect that to go on and on. I know it does for some people, but not for me. I do start freaking out, thinking that I have lost all that I am going to. I talked to a lady tonight that has had her band for 3 years and is still losing. That gave me hope!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I don't have a clue how to start a new thread. Sorry! Janet, the only way I can exercise is to the fan at the gym blowing hard on me. I can't stand being hot either. That has made all the difference in the world for me. I can't do the 800 calorie diets. I can do it on some days, but I do better at 1000 calories. I can do fine all day long, and really have the calories low, but some evenings the head hunger gets to me. I have low calorie snacks, but they add up, other than the sugar free popsicles. they are only like 10 or 20 calories.
