Sugar , Welcome to our little corner of lap band talk. We are all very friendly and supportive here. You have come to the right place! JC, Do they know what causes you to slip? this time it was a kidney stone and you were vomiting? Going on liquids for awhile didn't help? I am so sorry to hear this. You are so committed to the band and have done so well. I am glad to hear your doctor is going to try to save your ban
  3. I went on vacation and didn't exercise for a week. It's hard to say whether I missed it or not. It was around 112 every day, so I couldn't even go for a walk. When I am home, and something conflicts with my exercise routine, I get quite miffed. Now that I am back, I am excited to be able to go back to the gym. I never thought I would be saying that! Terri, I can see why you would be upset that your trainer is moving. I was so excited when the gym here finally got a trainer. I think that once you acquire the exercise habit, it's hard to give it up. Even if it's not for weight loss, the difference in my moods is quite remarkable!

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hi all, I am back after going away for a week to visit my dad in Arizona. He doesn't know about the band so it was tricky to eat in front of him. I have to go weigh myself! I am a slave to the scale. I thought I had lost a couple lbs on my dad's scale, but then I took him to the dr. I weighed on his scale right before I left, and then on the dr. 's scale, and the dr. scale showed what I weigh at home. I am getting another fill the first week in Sept. I haven't lost anything since my last fill. I think I only need slightly more, and I will be just right.

Hi everyone, I am still in Arizona with my dad. I have managed to not gain any weight while I have been here. I have been really careful. My dad likes to eat dinner out every evening but I have done well with choosing band friendly foods so I don't get something stuck in front of him. JC, I am so sorry to hear you are still having trouble. Is your band slipped? I tried to read back through all the pages to find out what's going on, but I only found where you said you had to go in Sept. and might have to have it removed. I am glad to hear some of you sound really happy with your new boyfriends. The band really changes our lives!! I am really hating the library computers. There must be too many computers networked together because it takes forever to get the page to come up. I will check back Thurs. All of tomorrow will be spent hanging out in the Portland airport with a huge layover. I am hoping to get on an earilier flight by flying standby. Talk to everyone thurs!

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Hi everyone, I am at the library in Mesa Arizona. I am visiting my dad who has no idea that I am banded. I don't want to listen to him lecture me on how much money I spent and that I really could have done it on my own. I don't remember who asked me about my weight loss. I started at 215 and I was at 170 this am. I am not losing as fast as others but I am used to it now, and I am happy that at least it's going in the right direction. I am going to get another fill when I get back home. I was able to eat two small pieces of pizza That's where my dad wanted to stop on the way home from the airport. I am worried about gaining while I am here because it's so much harder for me to lose than gain. I have to be really careful. The guy who messaged me and said he wanted to start writing again never wrote back after I answered his message. If I don't check in as much, it's because I wasn't able to get back to the library to use a computer. It's hard pleasing my dad and I have my son and his fiance with me too. I am stuck in the middle because my dad always says we don't come to see him, we just come to run around. It's so hard to have an 88 year old father living alone with me in Oregon. I need to get him moved into assisted living, but I have no clue how to empty out his house. It's a huge dimemma. My brother wants Dad to move back to Chicago, but I know he would hate the winters there.

Was anyone banded in December of '06?

I am losing slowly too, but it's stopped bothering me. I can't eat very much and that's a good thing. So I figure it will keep coming off and I am headed in the right direction. As long as I don't eat junk food, and I know I am following the rules, the only way it can go is down. As long as I don't get discouraged and have my old way of thinking, that I may as well eat because I am not losing anyway, I think I'll keep dropping slowly but surely.

Chrispy, This all sounds so promising. I am really enjoying all the updates. You're right about trust. I usually trust people until they show me they can't be trusted. JC, I haven't heard of that area. Even though I live here, I am not very familiar with the rest of Oregon. I hardly ever leave the coast. Did it say which town this was near? PigR, I hope you're feeling better!

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

I doubt if you will find anyone on here that had another kind of surgery. This is lap band talk. We have had the lap band.
  11. I have had three fills and I can eat bread. I choose not to. I rarely pb. If I do, it's because I got into a big hurry and didn't chew well. I have learned to chew very well, and can basically eat whatever I want to eat. I just choose the right things because I can't eat a big plateful of food. I read this board for days and days about the band and surgery. I knew what I was getting myself into. There were people who talked about not being able to eat bread, and people who talked about throwing up. I love my band!

    Maybe WLS was a mistake

Yes, it gets way better. Most of the time, I don't even know I have a band, unless I forget to chew my food very well. It's great not being hungry all the time and getting full on small portions and not wanting more. It's hard in the beginning to get used to everything. But it's well worth it!

I think we do very well keeping up with each other, Donna. This is my favorite thread. And it's nice to see someone here more my age. I find it really hard to think about dating at 54. All the men my age are either looking for someone a lot younger than themselves or they look like little old men. I am going to look for those books at the library while I am in Arizona. JC, How much longer do you have to be on liquids?

Ever watch men shopping at Home Depot?

Bubble you are too funny! I can't wait until my rinky dink town gets their new Home Depot. We all have been waiting patiently for them to start building. Apparently, they bought property that belongs to Indians. There is some stupid law from many years ago, that says they can't build this Home Depot on Indian land. Believe it or not, we are all waiting for the Oregon congress to change that law so we can have our Home Depot. Then I will start going there to watch people, especially men. I like to watch men, since I don't have a bf. I also love to people watch.

Hi Holly! I just wanted to say hi to a fellow Oregonian. Where are you getting your band?

What Books Are You Reading Now?

:bounce:This is a great thread. When I go to visit my dad, I do a lot of reading. I get a lot of books out of the library while I am there. I will love coming to this thread. I use the computers at the library, then I am always scanning the shelves in hopes of finding a good book.:bounce: Now I can just come to this thread and go and get one of the books. I usually end up reading about one book a day while I am there!

    Hair loss

Mine started at 4 months after surgery and now I am at 7 months and it hasn't stopped. I don't know what to do to stop it. I eat a lot of Protein and take Biotin. A lot of people say it's from anesthesia, not the WL surgery. My friend just had open heart surgery, so I will see if she starts losing hair in 4 months.

    Anyone from WA State?

I live in Oregon. Not WA, but close! I paid 10,000 with my dr.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I have a sugar free fudgesicle in the evenings. I do crave something sweet in the evenings. Sugar free popsicles are 10 calories and I enjoy them, and the fudgesicles are 40 calories. They hit the spot!

    Slow Losers - Unite!

I completely agree. It's really wonderful to know the band never stops working. I will be happy if I continue to lose as time goes on. It's frustrating to not lose as fast as other people, but I know without the band I would be heavier than I was on the day of surgery. I know I am headed in the right direction. Marimaru has had her band for 3 years and that's proof that as long as we stay on track, the band shows results! Way to go Marimaru! Your wedding pictures are so wonderful!

    South Beach Diet Bandsters???

I do basically eat the south beach way. The only carbs I have is a little bit of fruit. I am still not losing. I am going to get another fill.

Regarding pre-banding psych eval--what did you say?

It was pretty easy for me since I see the shrink who did my eval at the gym every day. I told her I was going to continue to work out, and if I felt stressed out, that going to the gym always helps that!
  23. I am always careful when I fill up a glass with Water to make sure the temp. is right. I don't want anything super cold anymore either. It's going to get interesting soon since I am going to be eating with my dad who doesn't know I got banded. He wants to eat out every day. I always order water with no ice, and he's going to think that's very strange because it will be very hot outside. I have been trying to think of what I am going to tell him when he asks why I don't drink ice water anymore! I take all my meds with warm water.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I really haven't found anything I can't eat either. Meatloaf is something that's perfect for a band. I eat a lot of meatloaf, actually. I make it out of ground turkey. I also eat an awful lot of chicken. You'll be able to eat pretty much whatever you want to eat for awhile, until you get filled tightly. A lot of people are able to lose without having their band really tight.

Oh, JC, I really feel for you! I had to do 4 weeks on liquids after surgery. It was hard! You can have soup though, right? For some reason I found soup to be more filling than protein drinks. I had to put it in the blender so there were no chunks, but it still seemed more filling. I also had a lot of egg flower soup. Leona, you are way too young to let anything or anyone stand in your way. Just have fun until school starts and then tell him you want to experience all that school has to offer, and that means not being tied down. PigsRflying, Good luck with your surgery! I hope you have an easy recovery like I did. I am no superstar by any means. I am not losing any weight, so that takes the super right out of my star! I am going to get another fill as soon as I get back from vacation. I think the reason I was able to go back to exercising quickly was because my body was very used to it. I got the gym habit about 3 years ago, and I really missed it after surgery. I went back after about a week, just not as intensely as usual. You will be able to listen to your body. If it hurts, don't do it! Hey everyone, I have a small update. There was a guy last year that I was emailing with and really hit it off with. Then we were supposed to meet and he got cold feet. He said there was no point in us meeting since we lived 2 hours apart and neither one of us wanted to move. All of a sudden I heard from him again. He wants to start writing again, and said this time he wants to meet. I told him nothing has changed, the distance was the same. He said he doesn't care about the distance anymore and wants to see what happens. We shall see if it's just "all words'' I am going to AZ to see my dad next week. I will use the computer at the library to check in with all of you!
