Bubble, Post those pictures. Or at least one. Even though I have seen you in person, I want to see your face in the corner. I have a good excuse. I don't have a camera or even the knowledge to put one on here. Since my daughter is pregnant, I may be getting a camera. Somebody's going to have to give me lessons. I think you'll feel thinner if you put before and after pictures right next to each other and compare them. If you're anything like me, you don't have any before pictures. I was good at hiding from the camera.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been to Rocky Point. It's fun. It's better to go in the spring when the water is warmer. I would imagine it's much more built up by now. I was there a long time ago. I've been really tired and haven't exercised since Sunday. I need to get my rear in gear tomorrow. It's hard for me to get motivated lately on the days that I have to work. I hope when now that I'm off work the rest of the week, the exercise will make the scale move. -
PB? Worse Experience of My Life!!!
Oregondaisy replied to StrawartS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would! My last pb was very nasty. It was by far much worse than any I have ever experienced. I don't know why. Food must have been caught and wouldn't come up, that's why I continued to throw up white foam. All the rest of the time, it has been no big deal. Food gets stuck, up it comes and that's the end of it. -
PB? Worse Experience of My Life!!!

That depends on how quickly you learn to take very tiny bites and chew until there is nothing left to chew-until it's liquid. After you have a few fills you will be surprised. Something that you have been eating without a problem can turn into a problem with a new fill. You have to learn to eat very slowly, and see how it feels. -
Was anyone banded in December of '06?
Oregondaisy replied to thebionicbroad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do too. I do very well without eating anything that I am not supposed to Then when I don't lose, I eat something that I miss and gain a lb. Then I have to go back to being really careful, but I still won't lose. Then all of a sudden, for no reason at all, I will drop a few. It's maddening. I would love to be one the people that sees the scale move even if it's just one lb. every week or at least every other week. More people are telling me lately that I look like I lost weight. So that's pretty cool. -

I don't feel like a steady loser, so I guess that's why I have never checked that out. I am doing mostly Protein shakes right now, in an effort to break this long plateau. I was down a couple lbs this morning, so I am happy. I hadn't lost anything since my last fill at the end of May. -
Thanks! It is really hard when so many others are losing so quickly. I just have to keep telling myself that there is no way possible for me to stop losing with the size of portions I am eating now. I recently met someone that was banded 3 years ago and is still losing. I decided the band never stops working............. I am still doing liquid protein. I better see some difference tomorrow!

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a resting metabolic test couple of months ago.It showed I have a very slow metabolism. Plus he had told me I wouldn't lose as fast as someone who had more to lose. I was 215 the day of surgery. I also wonder if the fact that I take HRT has something to do with it. Does anyone else take hormones? I have heard they really slow down weight loss. I can't sleep if I don't take them. Menopause caused me horrible insomnia.:speechles I am hoping tomorrow the scale shows a couple lbs gone. -

Manatee, You look great! Pigs R, You sound just like me. My BF and I broke up 2 1/2 years ago,and I still think about him everyday. I am hoping that if I lose enough weight, I won't care whether or not I have a man in my life. I will feel better about myself, and that's the best goal! -

PB? Worse Experience of My Life!!!
Oregondaisy replied to StrawartS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had several pbs since being banded at the end of Dec. They were just like the description of a pb. I burped and some food came with it. No big deal. UNTIL the other night. I ate some fish and it was very dry. I thought some tartar sauce would make it easier to eat. Got the golf ball, went to the bathroom and threw it up. I thought that would be the end of it. But NO! I ended up throwing up white foam for the next two hours. I couldn't figure out why nothing was coming with it. I was really afraid I was going to have to go to the emergency room. I couldn't stop puking this white foam. Eventually, it stopped. I have been on liquids ever since. They say to go on liquids for 24 hours after something like this, but since I made it 24 hours on liquids without being hungry, I decided just to stay on liquids and maybe I will break this plateau I have been stuck on. By the way, I have the same fill as you. 2.5 in a 4cc band. I usually have no trouble with this sort of thing. I can pretty much eat anything as long as I chew well enough, but that episode has given me a new respect for my band. -
Hey Wendell, Nice to see you here! I hope you stick around awhile. We all have so much to learn from all your experience.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been stuck on a plateau for a long time. I had a horrible pb episode the other night. I have always been told to stay on liquids for 24 hours after a pb. I wasn't the least bit hungry on liquids, so I have been on liquids ever since. I think it's going to be my answer to breaking through this plateau. I am the same as everyone else. Once I get started on something sweet, it's next to impossible to stop. Right now, I am feeling the same way about food. I might as well stay on liquid Protein if I am not hungry. If I eat something, I will just want to eat more. I was a self pay too, and I think $10,000.00 is just too much money to only lose 40 lbs. I lost 22 lbs the first 4 weeks on the liquid diet, so maybe this is the answer for me to break this plateau. -

My sex life has not changed one single bit since banding. It's not that I wouldn't want it to though! I live in a really small town and it's really hard to meet people. We don't have anything like speed dating here. I have thought a lot about moving to one of the bigger towns, but it would be really hard since I have really close friends and my kids are here. I have also not had any luck with online dating. I had a really bad pb episode the other night. Probably too much information, but I am going have to go into detail here. My daughter is a nurse, so I went to the hospital to have dinner with her. The fish looked really good, and I usually don't have any trouble eating fish. It ended up being really dry. I thought putting some tartar sauce on it would help, but it got stuck immediately. I went to the bathroom and pbed it up, and I thought that was the end of it. For 2 solid hours afterwards, I kept throwing up white foam. It really scared me. I thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room. It finally stopped. I've always been told to go on liquids for 24 hours after a pb. I ended up not being hungry at all so I have been on liquids ever since. I think I am finally going to break this plateau. 4 protein drinks per day is only 800 calories. I am really sick of not losing so I am going to keep doing this awhile. At the end of August it will be 8 months since I got my band and I haven't lost anything since my last fill at the end of May. By the way, I paid $10,000 for my band. I also had to pay for some lab work, and EKG, a psch eval and a swallow test the next day. So I would say all together, I paid about 10,500.00 . I think that's a lot of money for 40 lbs. It's pretty cool though that I can drink 4 protein drinks perbday and not feel the least bit hungry. I lost 22 lbs the first 4 weeks on the liquid diet, so maybe this is the answer to drop a some more. -
I never did call the dr. because it finally did stop. I don't really get why I kept throwing up the white foam after the bite of fish came up. I have been on liquids ever since. I have always heard to do liquids for 24 hours after a pb episode, and since this one was really bad, I decided to stay on liquid protein longer to let things settle down inside. Plus, I was not as hungry as I thought I would be on liquids, so I just stayed on them. I think I might drop a few lbs from doing this. I am not really hungry and 4 protein drinks per day is only 800 calories. Usually, when I don't lose anything for a long time, all of a sudden, I will drop 5 lbs. I think I am about ready to do that again.

April, I think in my opinion, that is too many carbs. I lose weight best when I eat 20 grams of carbs per day or less. Chripy you look fabulous too. You don't look like you need to lose any more. You look like your a size 10-12 -
I work for a workman's comp attorney. Definitely file for workmans's comp. That's what it's for and you are entitled to it!

Don't you get any free fills with your surgery? You might have to tell your fill doctor or person that you want aggressive fills. Be prepared to stay on liquids though if you are too tight from an aggressive fill. I have heard that a lot of people lose well with 3-4 fills. -

Thank You April. She is pretty nervous. She is an RN and works in labor and delivery so she sees a lot of women coming with miscarriages. I told her most people have normal pregnancies. She will feel safer when she passes the 3 month stage. She is barely pregnant right now. If you count calories and carbs, you will lose a lot of weight. I did the Atkins diet before banding and lost 60 lbs pretty quickly. In that diet they tell you not to watch the fat, but you will lose better with low carbs and low fat. Do the protein drinks you're drinking have very many carbs? -
For those six months after band surgery
Oregondaisy replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so sick of it . I just wish I had a real answer as to what causes it. My hair fell out when my husband died suddenly, so maybe it is caused from stress. I don't feel stressed, but I am sure my body felt stressed when I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks. I am sure nobody can tell that I have lost half of my hair, because I have thick hair. I know my pony tail is half the size it used to be though. My friend had surgery in May, so I am waiting to see if her falls out next month. Then I will know it's actually from anesthesia. -

Chrispy and JC, you both look fabulous. I don't have any pictures. I don't have a digital camera or a scanner. I am computer illiterate. My daughter is pregnant now though, so I have a feeling I will be getting those things. By the way, she has lost 140 lbs with the RNY. Before her surgery, she never had periods so losing all that weight has made a big difference. I hope she is careful not to gain too much weight during her pregnancy! If it wasn't for her having GP, I would have never found out about Lap band. It was at her support group that I came to the realization that I could actually lose weight if I had the lap band. -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's a good question, Linda. I don't know what the exact answer is, but most people are more "open" during dinner and have a hard time earlier in the day. So many things can affect the band. One thing is how hydrated we are. A lot of women say when it's their time of the month they are tight. Since I have gone through meno, I don't have that issue. Flying can make it tight too. I could barely eat during my layover when I flew home on Wed. -
You're welcome! They are all very nice and very supportive. I don't post there very much. They all seem to know each other very well, and for some reason, I feel a little more comfortable here. Audree, I had the worse experience last night that started with a PB from fish. My daughter works at the hospital, so I went there to have dinner with her. The fish looked really good. It ended up being very dry. I thought a little bit of tarter sauce would help it go down. I had to run to the bathroom because it got stuck immediately. I thought that was the end of it. I ended up throwing up for 2 hours at home. No food, just white foam.(Sorry, too much information):cry But it wouldn't stop. I was really scared. Finally, it stopped. Before bed I had a little bit of herbal tea, and I have been on liquids all day today. That really freaked me out! I am still getting a fill at the beginning of Sept. I haven't lost anything since my last fill. :whoo:I think a little bit more and I will be able to start losing again. I hope so.

FatBlog.Org - Weight Loss Surgery Forum - Index Here is copy of a website that is very supportive to all surgeries. You might be able to find some people with the sleeve on there. I know that some of them are talking about switching over to it. There is a spot for every surgery and they are a nice group. I am sure you can still post at lap band talk, but I thought you might want to find some others with your kind of surgery. You should be able to click on it and it will take you right to the website. Good luck with your surgery. I know Lap band is slow going for some, especially me.

I am glad the band helps with binges. I can eat some of the foods I used to binge on. Ice cream is definitely the exception. While I was in Arizona visiting my dad, it as about 112 outside, and I wanted ice cream every night. I managed to only have it once, because I could talk myself out of driving to the dairy queen. I am happy I didn't gain any weight on vacation. I am getting a fill the beginning of next month and I hope that makes me start losing again.
