need help not sure what i am feeling
Oregondaisy replied to andreerichards1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are getting food stuck. It's hard to say because you didn't say whether you're feeling this way while eating, or all the time, a certain time of day, etc. If this happens while you're eating, you're not chewing enough. You have to chew until it's liquid and take very small bites. -
I sure hope not. I loved reading this thread. There have been a lot of posts lately too, that remind me of this thread. " I can eat a whole pizza, why am I not losing weight" type posts:cry:heh:

Yay!! That's the greatest news! That's the way I was with my last fill, but it didn't last long enough. I was so excited that I could hardly eat more than a few bites. I can't wait to have that back (hopefully) next week. I get so scared that I will get too tight of a fill, because we read about all the horror stories of what happens when people are filled too tight. At the same time, I know I won't lose unless I get another fill. I hope this next one lasts me awhile!
-
Wow, I was just noticing the schedule of your fills. No wonder you are so happy. They hardly put anything in there each time! I hope this fill lasts you for a long time. Remember, as you lose fat inside, the band will get looser.

JC, have you found out whether or not your surgery is going to be covered by insurance? -
Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?
Oregondaisy replied to sweet_thang0792's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay, I am freaked out now. I don't see any sign of anything new growing back. -
Wendell we are all so glad to see you posting more here! You're right about the format there. There are so many other problems with that site, but I think the most annoying is the way it's set up. You belong here at LapBandTalk. We want to talk about Lap Bands, not all the other BS that goes on over there. I got so sick of them telling people that Protein shakes are evil. I think however you want to lose the weight, each to their own. Sometimes I am not in the mood to chew and I happen to like the way Protein Shakes taste. I love the way this site is set up. The only problem I have with it is my addiction to it. I sometimes spend hours on here when I should be cleaning my house or doing something I need to do, but don't enjoy.

Any stories of tortoise vs hare?
Oregondaisy replied to shoregirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is a thread called Slow Losers Unite. Go and read that thread. There are a lot of us that are very slow losers. It's very frustrating. I just have to keep telling myself that I would be heavier by now, so no matter what I have lost, it's a step in the right direction. The person that started this thread has lost almost as much as I have, and I have had the band almost 8 months now. I am losing really slowly, but I am happy to be losing and not gaining anymore. -
Just an update
Oregondaisy replied to lawanda jessica's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Grief! You just barely had surgery. I recovered very quickly, but most everyone says that walking as much as you can, will help the gas go away. Also, try putting a heating pad on your left shoulder. -
Any stories of tortoise vs hare?
Oregondaisy replied to shoregirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A lot of people go on plateaus and don't lose for awhile and then drop a few all of a sudden. That's the good thing about the band. It's always working. If you are getting really hungry in between meals, you need a fill. The band is not a magic cure. You still have to eat right and fight head hunger. -
I eat salad all the time. I use spinach leaves though instead of lettuce. I don't have any trouble with salad of any kind. Just make sure you chew very well though. Like anything else, you have to chew until there is nothing left to chew.
-
That is very common to be tight in the morning and looser at night. They say it has to do with sleep. The band reacts to hydration. When you're sleeping, you get dehydrated. Plus the position of sleeping flattens the band. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is drink a glass of pretty warm water. Warm or hot liquids open the band.

I drink low carb slim fast, and also the Atkins ones. They are both very low in carbs. I also have a big can of EAS Myo Pro that you have to mix with water. You can get that at Walmart. A lot of people really like Ungury which you have to buy online.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can you share what you have done to lose so quickly? I was banded at the end of Dec. and it's coming off very slowly. I was on a very long plateau until I put myself back on the liquid diet and now I have finally lost about 3-4 lbs. You were banded 5 months after me and have lost about 25 more lbs than me. Do you have a tight fill and can only eat a tiny bit of food? Are you just lucky that you don't have a slow metabolism like I do? -
Yes, you need to stop after a bite and see how well it's going down. Take very tiny bites of any kind of meat. You'll figure out what foods you have to chew like crazy and which foods go right through the band. I can eat a Protein bar and eat it like I don't have a band. If I am eating salad with chicken in it, I have to take itty bitty bites of the chicken and make sure I chew it until there is nothing left to chew.

Are you eating carbs? I lost 7 lbs the first week I was on Atkins. That is a strictly protein diet. meat, cheese and eggs. Drink a lot of water. Try to eat lower fat meats like ground turkey instead of ground beef. Low fat cheese, like string cheese. . You can also have salad. Walmart has an Italian dressing that is only 10 calories for 2 Tablespoons. you can also have green beans and broccoli . Personally, that is what I would do. It's better than going on a liquid diet, which some doctors make people go on. If you want to do liquids, make sure you get Atkins or low carb slim fast. You don't want any protein drinks with a lot of carbs. -
Why liguids for 3 weeks?
Oregondaisy replied to NewMeNJ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Inamed/ALLERGAN told me on the telephone that the overwhelming majority of slips were caused by REPEATED, SEVERE vomiting. Another cause of slips is eating solid food too soon after the operation, before the band has time to settle into a "Groove" that it makes around the stomach. The scar tissue helps the band to stay in place, and eating solid foods too soon may disrupt the healing process and make the band more likely to slip. One more cause of band slips is to repeatedly ignore the "Full signal" and "Stuff the pouch". That exerts tremendous downward pressure on the Lap-Band, which could cause a slip. They said that the symptoms of a slip are either a sudden, UNEXPLAINABLE loss of restriction, or a sudden, UNEXPLAINABLE severe obstruction. The way a slip is diagnosed is through either an X-ray or, more commonly, a fluoroscopic examination to verify. Although eating food too soon is, in itself, unlikely to cause an immediate slip, having the stomach "Work" (Move around to digest solid food) may create a condition where the band does not heal in place, which, in turn, could cause a future slippage. -

Oregondaisy replied to NewMeNJ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your band has to heal on your stomach. When you digest food, your stomach is working to digest the food. They don't want your stomach doing any work until the band is completely healed on the stomach. You are risking problems later on down the road which you have no way of knowing about, even though you think you're tolerating food. -
my lap band slippage
Oregondaisy replied to bobsytwin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully wasabubblebut will come in here and talk to you about problems with the band. Some people have spasms in their esophagus and can't handle fills in their band. There is medication you can take for this. Were you having trouble with the band when you didn't have a fill? That would answer some of your questions. -
How often do you weigh yourself?
Oregondaisy replied to lizster2007's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There wasn't a place to mark twice a day. I am scale obsessed. I weigh every morning and before I go to bed. I think it helps me not want to give into head hunger. -
Are you chewing until there is nothing left to chew? That is very important. You need to chew until it's liquid. If you're doing that, and still feeling this pain, you're getting food stuck in your esophagus, and probably do need to have some taken out. Even if you're taking small bites, you have to chew until you can't possibly chew anymore because there is nothing left to chew.

How stict are you with low carb?
Oregondaisy replied to aussie_jode's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am very strict on doing low carb. The only carbs I eat is from a tiny bit of fruit, to try to help with my bathroom problems. If I eat carbs, all I think about and obsess about is candy, cookies, ice cream, etc. Bandster rules are protein first then veggies. If you eat that way, you don't have room for carbs anyway. -
Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?
Oregondaisy replied to sweet_thang0792's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If it stops at month 11, I will be thrilled. My fear is that it's just going to keep falling out. -
Linda, You were banded on my birthday! Are you exercising? That makes all the difference in the world. I was on a very long plateau since my last fill which was at the end of May. Then I had a very bad episode when I got some food stuck and threw up for 2 hours. You're supposed to go on liquids for 24 hours after something like that, so I did. I wasn't the least bit hungry during that 24 hours so I decided to just stay on liquids to break this plateau. I am happy to say that I lost 5lbs. Now I am eating some, but mainly just doing protein shakes. I figured out that I have to eat 800 calories to lose. 4 protein drinks per day was 800 calories. I find actually find it easier to just drink the protein drinks than to count calories.

Chrispy, I can definitely see your point. I don't see any way around this. If he is working this hard now, it would be hard to be in serious relationship with him. My husband (deceased) wasn't a work-a -holic, but he never put me first. He was always hunting, fishing, and doing things that didn't include the kids or me. Our marriage almost broke up over this. Maybe you should just continue to date, but keep your options open. You deserve to find someone that will put you and your relationship first and top priority in his life. Match.com sent me an email that they are running a special for 15.00 for three months. I signed up. There wasn't one single person when I did a search that I thought was worth sending an email to, but maybe some new people will sign up since they are running this special. I'd really like to find someone to do things with, even if it's not a serious relationship. It just ticks me off though that 99% of the profiles say they are looking for someone "slender"
