A thread for Single Bandsters
Oregondaisy replied to NewBeginnings2018's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got a fill on Friday and all weekend stayed on liquids. I had a horrible weekend. I kept waking up pbing in my sleep. It's awful to be sound asleep and feel like you are drowning. It's just Water or slime but it's freaky. Last night it went on and on and I hardly got any sleep. I called the dr as soon as they opened. -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am going in for an unfill. I have been pbing in my sleep ever since I go the fill on Friday. It's been a miserable weekend. It's really awful to be sound asleep and have it come up and you feel like you're drowning. -
Was anyone banded in December of '06?
Oregondaisy replied to thebionicbroad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been having a rough time of it. I got too big of a fill and it's been horrible . I am going today for an unfill and I hope he doesn't have to take all of it out. The good news is with this fill, I have lost about 5 lbs. -the hard way. -
Gastric bypass is not a magic cure. You might lose weight faster, but just about everyone I know that has had gastric bypass has stretched out their pouch and gained nearly all their weight back.

I am surprised your doctor doesn't have you on a liquid diet since you barely had your surgery. Most doctors require at least 2 weeks on liquids only. I had to be on liquids for 4 weeks. What is your post op diet?

What about all the guys that knock our confidence down? I have lost count on how many times I have sent a picture to someone I have been in contact with on one of the dating sites who stopped writing when they got my picture. I wish there was somewhere around here to meet people. The online thing has gotten extremely old. I am going to call for an unfill tomorrow. I can't take this. I am really feeling like cr@p tonight. -
I think I am going to call for an unfill tomorrow. I can't take this anymore. It's nice to see the scale moving, but I don't want to go through any more nights feeling like I am choking. Sometimes the pain goes away, but when it's back tonight, and I know I can't take it anymore.

Does anyone who had too tight of a fill know how long it takes to relax a little bit? I had this problem where my dr. suspected a leak so I think that's why he put a little bit extra in there. I now have 3.0 in a 4cc band. I can drink Water and sip Protein drinks, but my stomach hurts like I have a vice grip around it. I know there is swelling, so I want to wait a few days before I call for an unfill. I have had trouble losing up until this point, and if this fill loosens slightly, I will start to lose again, and not have to have some removed. I won't hesitate to have some taken out if it isn't going to mellow out a little. I just got it yesterday.

Got a fill and lost restriction!
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I got another fill and I am sure I don't have a leak. Right now I am the tightest I have ever been, and I am hoping that when the swelling goes down, it will loosen some. If not, I am going to have to go and get a slight unfill. thanks for asking! -
Thanks Chickie. I only got the fill yesterday. This is the first time it's been this tight and noticeable. I really want to keep it, but I won't hesitate to get an unfill if I don't see some changes next week. I have really been struggling with losing. I go on really long plateaus without losing. Then I got a fill, and he must have not been in the port. When he checked it, I had no saline. Then he gave me this fill. I thought I had a leak. I must not because I haven't lost any of this fill.

Nobody can answer the question of how long it took for a fill to be a little bit looser?

Thanks BJean, I am not sure yet if I am too restricted. I just got the fill yesterday. Believe me, if things don't improve, I will be running to get an unfill. After I got really afraid that I had a leak, it made me not want to get poked with that needle again. A lot of people had said the tubing can get poked during a fill. I think I am swollen from the fill. Tonight I ate some cottage cheese and some yogurt. So I am progressing. I'll see how it goes over the next couple of days. So very many people have said they were too tight for the first week, and now it's fine. I just got the fill on friday. Tonight the pain is gone and I am just hungry, so I think I am moving through the stages of a fill. My dr. always says liquids and mushies the first few days of a fill. If I have any problems on Monday, I will definitely call. I don't want to be too tight. I am too afraid of problems. -
Here is the truth about the band

docsdeb, you should go and look at the before and after pictures. That will help a bunch. I have had 4 fills and rarely pb. It's not that big of a deal. If something gets stuck, it's not like you are choking at all. It's like a piece of food that you didn't chew enough and it almost pops right out. If you follow the rules, such as taking very tiny bites, and chewing until it's liquid, these just aren't issues. Plus you get fills a little bit at a time. If you get a fill and you find that food is getting stuck, it's a learning time. Learn to chew better and take smaller bites. Don't get another fill until that isn't happening any more. -

Thanks, JC and marcar. I will go and get an unfill if this doesn't get a little looser. I am not one that wants to be so tight that it's causing problems. So far, I have had no trouble getting water and protein drinks down, and today I had 2 teas. of yogurt and 2 teas. of cottage cheese. I don't want to pb again tonight in my sleep. Last night I pbed up water and it woke me up from a sound sleep feeling like I was drowning. I am going to sleep in the recliner tonight. I think it's getting looser though. My tummy doesn't ache as much. -
Okay, it's a deal. You can take my picture the next time I come to AZ. I am so computer illiterate, it would be great if you could put it in as my avatar. I have some old pictures, and it wouldn't be too bad to have some before and after pictures. With this tight fill I have going on right now, maybe by then I will be down a bit more. Nothing would make me happier. I was able to eat two teaspoons of cottage cheese and two teaspoons of yogurt today as well as my Protein shakes. I still don't know if I need an unfill. I pbed up Water in the middle of the night and I was sound asleep. It woke me up and I felt like I was drowning. It was kind of scary. I think I'll sleep in the recliner tonight.:rolleyes

Leona, at least you're recognizing this. They have done shows on TV where women who have had WLS switch addictions to sex, gambling, shopping, drinking, etc. You're young and you're having fun right now, but hopefully in the long run, you'll find the perfect man for you and settle down when the time is right. Chrispy, I can drink protein drinks and water. but my stomach HURTS. I am just wondering how long it takes for the swelling to go down. I haven't even tried food. I don't plan to until my stomach stops hurting, just protein drinks and water. Does anyone have any experience with too tight of a fill relaxing after a bit? -
Bubble, you are so helpful to everyone. We all appreciate you I know from when I saw you a month ago, you looked great. You shouldn't be afraid to post a picture. And you have dropped another 10 lbs since then. Believe me, you look really good. :girl_hug: Big hug! I have a good excuse. I don't have a digital camera.

Michelle, how long did it take to loosen up? I am in pain. I can drink protein drinks and water. It feels like a vice grip around my stomach. I don't mind staying on liquids, I just want the pain to go away. Last night I could hardly sleep. I kept burping up water and I felt like I was going to drown. I have the hic ups a lot and that really hurts too. I just want to know how long it takes to ease up a little bit. Like I said, I don't want him messing with my port, but I may have to get an unfill. Do you remember how long you felt too tight, before it started getting better/ -

I am so tight, I can only sip water. I hope this fill loosens up some so I can keep it. I am sipping hot tea right now, but I feel like I ate way too many dinners. I better lose weight now! I may have to go in and get a tiny bit taken out. I don't want to though, because I don't want him messing with my port again. Now I am afraid of the tubing getting poked. But if I stay this tight, I will have to get some out. -

You guys, I have the tightest fill I have ever had. I can only sip water at this point. I am trying to wait to see if the swelling goes down and if I can keep the fill. I am sipping hot tea right now, but I feel so full, like I ate way too many dinners. Have fun Chrispy! I hope you get a kiss from Micky! -
Yes this is a great thread. New people should read the entire thing. There have been some good thread killers posted in the regular sections too, but I don't want to make fun of anyone.

Dr. Tersigni will fill people even if he didn't do their surgery, but he is kind of far for you. He is in Coos Bay Oregon

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
Oregondaisy replied to DrewsLou's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My dr. always hits me on the first poke. I thought I had a leak last week. I lost all my fill and I don't know why. They say he may have not had the needle in far enough. I got another fill today and I am definitely restricted. I just hope it loosens up some, or I am going to have to go and get a slight unfill. I don't want that needle poking me anymore than necessary after the scare of a possible leak. -
Wheetsin, you're back! People have been asking where you went. What is a cholecystectomy? So many people think they are automatically going to lose if they get the band. They think it's like the RNY. The RNY people really don't have to do anything to lose weight. My daughter lost 140 lbs and hasn't exercised once. She does follow the surgeon's diet though. Those RNY people also gain their weight back, after awhile. The ones that don't are exercising and not expecting the surgery is a magic cure. The main reason I posted was to say I am so glad to see you, Wheets!

Here is the truth about the band
Oregondaisy replied to alysedg23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, she said she did get an unfill and is doing better. I got a fill today and I really think he put it in wrong or something last time. I feel very tight right now. I hope I don't have a leak, and I guess time will tell. I don't know about guarantees with the band. I know I signed papers that said I was aware of the problems (they listed them) than can happen with the band. I really think my surgeon would do his best to fix the leak at a minimal cost. If I did get a leak, he had to have given it to me, because he pulled out all the saline before he filled me and it was all there. Today he pulled out none and put in 3.0 so like I said, time will tell.
