Almost 5 months post-op, same weight & UPSET!

With the right restriction, you will be totally satisfied with one slice of pizza. Having the correct fill makes all the difference in the world. If I were you, I would definitely be looking for another doctor. Your doctor doesn't sound helpful. My doctor gives fills every 6 weeks. I told him I wanted an aggressive fill, and he listened. After that, I started losing much better. I was full from a very small amount of food.

Got a fill and lost restriction!

I think it is possible for them to lost contact with the port or something. That's exactly what happened to me. I went for a fill and I could tell immediately the next day that something must have gone wrong. I had no restriction at all. The doctor thought I had a leak and put extra in the next time. I didn't have a leak, and I was miserable. I went back in 3 days for an unfill and he took out all that he had put in there, so it showed I didn't have a leak. I was relieved. I am still not recovered from being too full. Being overfilled is no fun.I have been on liquids ever since, to let my tummy rest. But- the best thing that came out of it was that I lost 7 lbs after a huge plateau. I was able to eat a little bit of very thinned down oatmeal today, and some cottage cheese. So, things are improving.
  3. I love little people. That tv show, Little People Big World, is one of my favorite shows!

Was anyone banded in December of '06?

Yay! that's good news, Maurdan! I was pretty down when I was trying really hard and still not losing, and Lap Band Talk kept my sanity. having a good fill makes all the difference in the world, I have found.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Cathie, I would tell your doctor that you want to see someone else. Tell your doctor just like you told us. Someone that is severely depressed does not work out 5 days a week. Maybe that shrink just wants you to come back so she can make some more money from you. My doctor let us choose whoever we wanted to see. You can also tell him that the little bit of depression that you might have is caused from being overweight. You can certainly tell him that you don't binge the way that shrink described. Tell him you eat when you are hungry. It would seem that your WLS doctor would want you to have the surgery.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

You aren't the oldest person on this message board. There are some that are over 70 on the bandsters in their 60's thread. There are many success stories of people who were able to get off their medications, and have lost a lot of weight. Just don't expect it to happen over night. We will all be here to support you.:car: You can start a thread if you want to, and ask for success stories of people over 60.

    The Sweet-eaters

I really think there are enough low calorie sweet things to get us by. There are the 100 calorie packs and Quaker has a pretty good little 90 calorie chocolate thingy. Now there are some people who would eat more than one pack, but I hate grocery shopping enough that I tell myself if I eat more than one pack, I won't have one for tomorrow night. It's evenings when I crave sweets.

I am excited that I have lost very well since I got a fill and an unfill. I thought I had a leak, but I don't so that's good news too! I have been on liquids ever since my fill and I have no desire to eat. It's great!

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"

Yea, I got some taken out on Monday. I was only too tight for the weekend. I don't know how people manage to continue to live like that. On the thread " I have to sleep sitting up" there are people that have been too tight for months. I was never so miserable in my life. I am still on liquids. Ever since my defill, I still feel like I am irritated inside. I am not hungry, so I have no desire to try anything but liquid at this point. I am happy to be losing again. :car:
  11. Wow! What a great thread. There is so much I would like to comment on, but as usual, I am up reading lap band talk when I should be sleeping. I don't have clue what the mile high club is. Do you climb up a mile and get high? tee hee My mom had breast cancer and was on chemo for 2 years. She got it at age 60 and died at age 82 from kidney failure. I (like a fool) take HRT and get mamagrams every year and hope for the best. I am not afraid of dying, other than I just found out my daughter is pregnant. Other interesting or non interesting things........I am ashamed to admit I have been watching All My Children since 1970 My husband died when my kids were 3 and 6 when a crane fell on him. Oregon has a law that you can't sue your employer if you are killed on the job. They have to pay me workman's compensation until I remarry- no chance of that. I too very much believe in ghosts and I am very into metaphysics and the para normal. I think the longest I have ever spent reading lap band talk is 6 hours at one sitting. I read more than I post. Other little secrets will have to remain secrets because they are just too embarrassing, and I will never know when my daughter may decide to read what I post on LBT

Welcome to the "At or near goal forum"

Boy, that's the first time I have ever seen flaming on lap band talk! I will not even get in the middle of that discussion, but I do have to say no matter what, that was totally uncalled for. I have to decide what my goal is. If 155 is my goal, I am ten lbs from goal. This is because I lost 6 lbs in 3 days from being over filled. I got too tight of a fill on Friday, and could barely get liquid down. I got some taken out on Monday. I don't recommend losing weight this way. It was miserable. But it did break a very long plateau. Getting back to my goal problem- My dr. says for my age and height I should weigh 135. 5'2" and I will be 55 years old next month. I looked at pictures of me at 155 right after I had my daughter ( and I thought I was so fat then) and I now don't think I looked all that bad. I think I would have a turkey neck at 135 because I am starting to have one already. Anyway, I guess we will see how it goes. I will probably go on another long plateau, so I have awhile to worry about just exactly how much more I want to lose. Interesting thread!

I have to sleep sitting up

I can't believe some of you have put up with this for quite awhile. I got too tight of a fill on Friday and spent the weekend feeling like I was drowning. It's a horrible feeling to wake up from a sound sleep with Water (or whatever) coming up. I went in for an unfill on Monday. the good news is I lost 6 lbs in 3 days after being stuck on a long plateau. I didn't dare try solids. I stayed on liquids hoping it would loosen up. After 3 nights of no sleep, I ran as fast as I could for that unfill.

Maurdan, is there anything we can do to help you?

How is weight loss for people over 50?

They took my anti depressant off the market. I tried every other one possible and they all gave me horrible side effects. I am glad I have turned into an exercise addict. It really has helped me more than medication, other than the fact that I still can't sleep.

    Afraid of the band

How many people know many, many people who had gastric bypass and gained all their weight back? I know more than I can count. They can stretch their pouch out easily. Sure the first year the weight just falls off. But can they keep it off? Gastric Bypass is not a miracle cure either. At least with the band, we know when we need a fill and can go and get one.
  17. I just got defilled after being too tight. I could get liquids down just fine. I never did pb. My problem was at night. I would throw up in my sleep. It was terrible. I would be sound asleep and suddenly, Water would come up and I felt like I was drowning. Plus, for 3 days it felt like I had an elephant standing on my stomach.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

WHAT? This is the first time I have ever heard of this. Is this someone you see on a regular basis that knows you pretty well? What kind of questions did he/she ask you? Mine asked me what I was going to do when I couldn't replace food for comfort anymore. I told her that I had discovered that exercise is better than any anti depressant I had ever been on. I said when I feel stressed out, now I go and exercise. (this is true by the way) You tell us what she/he asked you, and we'll all be able to figure out how to get you to pass that sucker!

Got a fill and lost restriction!

I had to go in and get some taken out. I was throwing up in my sleep. It was horrible. But at least when he pulled it out, I found out that all of it was there, so I don't have a leak. I lost 6 lbs in 3 days after being on a long plateau, but I don't recommend being overfilled to anyone. It was so horrible. I felt like I had an elephant sitting on my stomach. At night, I would wake up with Water in my mouth feeling like I was drowning. It such a fine line having the right fill.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I don't have a clue. I asked him to let me go back to 2.75 which was what I was supposed to get in the first place, and he said that normally he would have completely unfilled someone with that bad of reflux. I have an appointment in about 4 weeks which was 6 weeks from when I originally got a fill that was supposed to be the 2.75. I'll see how I am doing by then.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just try to pay attention when you eat if you hick up or feel tight like it's not going down right. It's not going to matter right now until you get a fill. When you do, you shouldn't be able to eat that much. Food will get stuck and back up into your esophagus.

    The Sweet-eaters

I am a very big sweets craver. Sweets are definitely my downfall. Eating a lot of Protein and getting the sweets out of my system really helped. I do have a sugar free fudgesicle every evening. Some evenings I don't even think about it. I don't bother with sugar free candy because the calories content is the same. I count my calories carefully. WW has a good chocolate ice cream that comes in packages of 2. they are 140 calories. I do pretty well buying those about once a month. I eat one and the other one the next night, but I don't have any urge to get in my car and go get more. I think the band does help even thought sweets go right down if you are motivated to lose weight. I work too hard at the gym to want to have it all be for nothing.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

You will all be happy to hear that I am back from my defill. I am right back to where I started from . I went in to go from 2.5 to 2.75, then somehow all my fill disappeared. He was afraid I had a leak, so he put 3.0 in there, which turned out to be way too much for me. Today he took out the 3.0, so I don't have a leak. He left 2.5 in there, so I am right back where I started, when I couldn't lose weight. But, I did lose 6 lbs in the 3 days I was on liquids only. But it still wasn't worth all the pain that 3.0 caused me. Makes me want to stay on liquids for a few weeks though

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Of course we remember you! I am glad you realized you deserve more attention than a video game. I got part of my fill out and I feel so much better. I better not have any more of that reflux in my sleep. That was awful! I wish there was a way to send pictures on here. I would really like the guy's opinion. Of course they wouldn't have the nerve to say "oh Denise I can see why nobody writes back to you. You really are a dog" It sucks getting old. All the men in their 50's are looking for women 35. People keep telling me I will meet someone when I least expect it. I have been waiting forever for that to happen.
