Left Shoulder Pain After Lap Band Surgery
Oregondaisy replied to vbaum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know all about the gas they use during surgery. I never had left shoulder pain right after surgery. I have had my surgery close to a year ago, and I think mine started more like 5-6 months after surgery. It comes and goes. Sometimes it will hurt for days, then go away for a few weeks and comes back. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything else. It just comes and goes. Sometimes it's there in the morning, and goes away later in the day. Sometimes it comes at night etc. It just seems to come and go whenever it wants to. I know it has something to do with the diaphragm. I know someone who had her band for 2 years and finally had it removed because her shoulder shoulder pain was so extreme and hurt her the entire time until she had her band removed. -
Misschrissie, the only way to find out if you stretched out your pouch is to have the dr. do a test. I am not sure what it's called, but your doctor should know. The way they shrink it back is to go back on the liquid diet for a few weeks. I am getting another fill. I was too tight and had some taken out, but I think he took out too much. I am tired of trying to do this with willpower and no restriction. I wish he could have gotten me in sooner than the middle of Dec.

We never had any kind of name other than Dec bansters. I prefer chocolate brownies over twinkies. I am getting another fill in the middle of Dec. Hopefully, I won't be able to eat whatever I want and loosing and gaining the same 3 lbs over and over. -
I am getting another fill in the middle of Dec. I am not doing very well being able to eat whatever I want and whatever portion I want. I keep gaining and losing the same 3 lbs. I want restriction!

I am really happy for you Chrispy! You're right. It's about time. I hope he turns about to me the man you have been waiting to find all of your life. -
That does sound like much more of a manageable price. Is it able to tell you how many calories you are burning?

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I made an appointment for a fill. I couldn't get in until the middle of Dec. I am going to really stress to him that I only want a small one. There has to be a happy medium between being able to eat whatever I want, and throwing up all the time. You would think that since I have had the band almost a year now, I would have that happy medium. I don't do well with being able to eat anything or whatever portion I want. I want restriction! -

You have to eat 1/8 of a cup of food? I was under the impression that band makes us not hungry so we can go for weeks without eating. Isn't that the way to loose weight fast? -
My surgeon said something interesting today at support group. He said we all have the disease of addiction. Addicted to food. This is a chronic disease. The band just keeps it under control, but if we let head hunger take over, the disease of addiction will always win.

Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?
Oregondaisy replied to TamifromAL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This amazes me too. There is so much information on this board and nobody should get banded without reading and finding whatever information they need BEFORE surgery. I read the board for a couple of months before I ever made a post. I knew I was making a decision about putting an object inside my body and I wanted to know anything and everything I could find out about it, before I did it. The answer is yes... I get very frustrated with some of the stuff people come up with. Coming here used to be my favorite part of the day. Now it's just getting harder and harder to read the new posts. -

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f79/want-band-removed-too-35207-new/ Bubble, have you read this thread at all? -
Definitely go on liquids. You are probably irritated inside from being too tight, and now you got an unfill. Anytime they are messing around with fills and unfills, you're supposed to go on liquids for 24 hours. Since you have been dealing with being too tight for 5 days, then an unfill, go on liquids for 24 -48 hours then mushies for another 48 hours so that when you try solids, all the swelling is completely gone.

You have to order something that you know has worked before and not given you trouble. When I am afraid to eat in front of someone, I order soup and say I had a late lunch, or not very hungry. -
I thought that I would eventually find my sweet spot. I have found that I am either too tight or too lose. When I was too tight, Water would come up in the middle of the night while I was sound asleep and I felt like I was drowning. I went in for a slight unfill, and now I can eat anything I want. ANYTHING. I have to choose not to eat the wrong foods, not because they won't work. Here it is almost a year later, and I can't decide if another fill would be an advantage or not.

Don't feel bad. I haven't lost weight in 2 months. Plateaus happen. You sound like you are too tight if you're getting reflux.

John Edward's book is really good. I am not sure if he has more than one. If he does, it's his first book that I read. It was his life story, all about how he discovered his gift, how he prays before each reading, etc. I would really recommend this book. I have no idea what the name of the book is though. I am glad his tv show is back on. I always watch it on Saturdays while I am struggling through my cardio at the gym. It sure makes the time go by faster! It's on as reruns in the day time, and the new ones are on Sat. night. -

I can't even believe these people. I did total liquids for 4 weeks post op, even though I was reading on here that other patients didn't have to do liquids that long. Why don't they just make a post that says "I want to make my band slip" -

Congratulations Green! That's so exciting! I have been debating on whether or not I should get another fill. I haven't lost anything in the last 2 months. I think it's fabulous that you lost 5 lbs without any fill. I keep debating back and forth because even when I was really tight, I didn't lose any better. My big problem is sweets, which I can eat whether or not I have a fill. -
I can't lose anything at all unless I eat around 800 calories a day. A lot of people can eat way more calories than that. I had a resting metabolic test taken that showed exactly how slow my metabolism is. If I want to lose, I need to drink a protein drink for dinner which is about 120 calories, and not snack all evening. I have had my band really tight where I could hardly eat at all, and I still didn't lose. I had some taken out because being tight didn't seem to make any difference. I go to the gym 6 days a week and make sure I do at least 45 min of hard cardio. I really don't have any other advice to offer, other than count calories. Calories in, calories out is the only thing that really matters.

Audree, they are advertising SlimQuick on tv. I am guessing it's not the same thing as what you are taking? I noticed today that it's backwards from what you take QuickSlim. I won't have the money until after Christmas now that it's getting so close to the holidays. I really want to try it.

I am just afraid that I won't know how to use it. I am very computer illiterate, and can never figure out how to use any type of gadgets that are simple for anyone else. I have a heart rate monitor, but it would be nice to know how many calories I am burning. Can you just put it on and it will tell you how many calories you're burning during your workout. It has to be very uncomplicated for me to be able to use it.
