How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am looking forward to getting a fill too. I go in the middle of Dec but I wish it was sooner. I can actually do really well with staying away from sugar. Then it's like something takes over and I go nuts. I did only gain 1 lb from all the cookies. I am glad to say that I love exercise. I love going to the gym. I am happy that I have made that such a habit that I hate when I miss a day. -

I was very bad today. I ate so many cookies at work, that I just about made myself sick. I wish cookies got stuck. I have to do better tomorrow. I am afraid to get on the scale. I don't know what is wrong with me these days. -
Rants and Raves become NOT for newbies
Oregondaisy replied to losingjusme's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I am ranting at the moment that I couldn't resist the Cookies at work today. Why don't cookies get stuck. They go down like butter. I couldn't seem to stop myself once I got started. Had salad for dinner, but I am sure the scale is not going to be nice to me in the morning. I HAVE to do better! -

Why can't we pick where we want it to come off. My face is all full of wrinkles now and I have no boobs left, but I do have a big belly that I wish would GO AWAY! -

POLL Does Everyone Lose Their Hair??
Oregondaisy replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to agree. I hope it stops. At almost 11 months past surgery, I can say it's slowing down, but not gone. -

Yea, people keep telling me that someone will come along when I least expect it. I have given up on believing that though. I feel like I am going to be alone the rest of my life sometimes. Right now I am really hating men. -

Hey CArol in AZ, where are you in AZ? I will be going to Mesa in Feb. I have found the best way to get rid of all cravings is to stick myself back on the liquid diet for a couple of days. I am not all that strict on it, like we had to be post op. But I will drink a protein shake for dinner and lunch. If I am starving in the evenings, I will eat a piece of string cheese. A couple of days of this, and my sugar cravings are gone. I make sure I watch tv in another room that's not close to the refrigerator, and keep a 32 oz water bottle on my lap and sip water all evening. I am down 3 lbs this am from this. -

I still haven't gotten to meet anyone that I have been writing to on the different online sites. I was emailing back and forth on E Harmony. They make you answer questions back and forth that they come up with. Eventually, you get to open communication. Once again, went I sent my picture, communication stopped. This time I called him on it. I said that I thought the E Harmony process matched people according to their personalities and that you can't really tell completely from a picture if you are going to "click' with someone. I asked him to have enough integrity to answer rather than just not answer this email. We shall see what happens. -
Do you ever get frustrated with band babies?
Oregondaisy replied to TamifromAL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I am a very slow loser. It's been a frustrating experience for me, because in the beginning I thought that the band would be more help that it is. I have found exercise to be a key ingredient in continuing to lose weight. In the beginning, while I was on the liquid post op diet, I did lose weight quickly. But then is slowed down, much less than two lbs a week, as everyone else had mentioned it was going for them. People thought I was eating junk food and not following the band rules. That is not the case though. I have a slow metabolism, and I can be stuck on a plateau and not lose for a couple of months. If I gave up during these times, I am sure I would have gained some of my weight back. So I continue to eat properly and exercise, drink my water, and have faith that the scale will move again. I am thrilled that I have kept off everything I have lost, even if I am a standstill at the moment. I know now I am what I call a "chunk loser" I go for a couple of months while my body adjusts to the new weight, then all of a sudden I will drop a few. I have faith that it will continue that way. I have the rest of my life to keep losing, because I have my band and I don't think it's going anywhere. It's just there in the backround, helping me choose foods that aren't band friendly. These are healthy foods, so my eating habits have changed dramatically in this past year. -
Yay! I am glad it went so well for you. I hope you feel as good as I did the rest of this week too. I really never felt like I even had surgery, and I hope it's that way for you too. I am glad you liked Dr. Tersigini. It makes me feel better when people feel the way I do. I would feel horrible if I recommended him, and someone didn't like him. I don't see how that could happen, because he is so nice. He can be shy though, and some people take that as cold. I hope you feel great all week. The hard part will be staying on liquids when you start getting hungry. Watching the scale move is a big incentive though!
-
Don't get discouraged when the scale doesn't move. I have been the same weight for a long time now. I have learned from the past that in order to get my weight loss going again, I have to go back on the liquid diet. It's like when I am eating, I can't keep my calories low enough. It's like our bodies get used to whatever calories it's getting and adjusts to that. When I drink the Protein drinks, I either drink 3 or 4 and they are 120 calories each. I can usually drop 5 lbs doing this and then go back to food and not gain it back. I do exercise 6 days a week.

I totally agree with Christmas. I have had enough of that to last me the rest of my life. Laurend gave me a good line that I have been using frequently. Christmas music makes me want to stab my ear drums! But actually, I was going to say I have had enough of men in general. Not the men on this site. They probably have a good idea as to how we feel. Even if men are overweight themselves, they still think all women must look like Barbie dolls in order to be dateable.

Let's talk about "Pineapple Juice"........
Oregondaisy replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't keep it in the fridge until after it's opened. Do you just throw the rest of the can away? It usually only takes a couple of little sips to do the trick. -

"Kashi tastes like cardboard to me, to be honest. I'd rather eat grapenuts. And I HATE grapenuts" I like it a lot . It doesn't taste good without spenda on it. -
I am a know it all. I know everything there is to know about every possible subject anyone could possibly think of. Ha Ha Ha Ha....... Wouldn't that be nice! I wish I knew how to make fancy lettering and stuff.

If you have the correct fill, you won't be able to eat bread, noodles, rice or pizza. These foods may work in the beginning, but after good restriction, it's just not worth it. It will get stuck and cause pain.

Oregondaisy replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have used the pineapple juice too. I just wonder how long you can leave an open can in the fridge. You just take an itty bitty sip, and wait. If nothing happens after a few minutes, I take another itty bitty sip. Usually whatever is stuck dissolves. It's like the pineapple juice melts whatever is stuck -
I used to have about 30 people to buy for. Then I finally told everyone that I was only buying for my kids and my dad. This year I got roped into drawing names with my husband's side of the family. I don't even want to do that. He passed away over 20 years ago, and I don't want to shop for his family. I hate shopping with a passion, and I hate being forced to shop for people I don't even want to shop for.

Wow! You do plan to tell him once you get home, right? I want you to know that I had a very easy recovery. I never needed the pain meds, and honestly, I would never have even known I had surgery if I didn't have the little cuts on my tummy. You won't have trouble with throwing up (pb) or slime until after you have had your fills. Most people don't even have that after one fill. If you think you need this surgery, and that it will help you, it's your body and you are brave to do it with no support. I never told anyone other than one close friend and my daughter. I couldn't be happier that I am finally at the weight I was 23 years ago when I had my son. Getting the band was the best thing I could have done for myself. Just let any of us know if you have any questions at all and we will be here for you!

Where are my fellow Oregonians?
Oregondaisy replied to sweethinkr's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know there are people who have surgeons in Portland. I think at OHSU? There are some other threads if you go to the Oregon part of the board. There's a spot somewhere on the main page that goes state by state. -

Try the Kashi cereals. All whole grain and tons of fiber. I must have eaten 5,000 calories yesterday. Back on track today. I did an hour of cardio and my weights and crunches, and had a protein drink for dinner. I was so bad yesterday. Being able to eat anything I want is not a good thing. I look forward to my fill but I wish it was sooner than the 12th of dec.
