    Walls of Text

I normally don't start threads in the R & R section. I do enjoy reading the posts in this section. My rant is when someone posts a very long post and doesn't put any breaks anywhere. I spend so much time on Lap Band Talk, and often it's late at night. It's very hard to read something when there aren't any breaks or indentations for new paragraphs. My eyes are usually blurred by this time of night, but since I enjoy reading the posts so much, I struggle to see and read them, (even with reading glasses) to try to keep track of each line and read the entire post. Does anyone else have a problem with this?

    Question for Dr. Watkins

Hi Dr. Watkins, First I would like to say how much we appreciate that you come here and are so informative and helpful. We are lucky to have you here! I read on another post where you were talking about a leak. I am afraid I have one. I got a fill and it was too much, so my doctor said he was going to take some out and leave 2.75 cc's in a 4cc band. I just got another one last week ( 2 months later,) and he was only able to pull out 2.0 before he did the fill. He said it does not necessarily mean I have a leak. I had great restriction the first few days after this last fill. Now, not so much. Is it because when you get a fill, there is some swelling? Is there any way to find out if I have a leak other than the next time I go for another fill and check and see what's left in there? That is how I got overfilled to begin with. He thought I had a leak so he put me up over 3.0 and I was miserable. That was when he moved me down to 2.75. He was able to pull out all of it out that time, when he left the 2.75 in there. I could really test it out and try to eat something that I can't normally eat with a good fill, but I don't want to do that and risk throwing up.

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

You don't want that golf ball feeling. It's painful and causes vomiting. That would be bad for you this soon after surgery. Do you have one of those mini blenders? You really should be only eating whatever you can get through a straw. Has anyone ever explained to you why this is important?

    Healthier Stocking Stuffers

I put little bags of Jerky in my kid's stockings. That and the most inexpensive little gadgets I can think of. Girls are so much easier. There are so many cute little things you can put in there. I have a much bigger problem with the guys. My kids aren't little kids so that makes it harder.
  5. There are a lot of people who post in rants and raves that have very strong opinions and like to voice them. There are some very heated discussions that go on here. I really haven't seen any fighting on any other part of the board. I really don't think of the fights in rants and raves as really fights either. I think of it as people expressing their very strong opinions back and forth.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Di, I am sorry you're feeling bad. I guess you didn't tell us that you had a relationship break up? I hope we haven't lost Crispy and Jc for good. Maybe they will check in with us.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Green, I can sure relate. I always get depressed in the winter, and it's the worst at during the holiday season. Exercise does help a lot with that. I was able to get off my anti depressants when I started exercising every day. Eating at night is problem for me too. It seems to be a problem for everyone. I do have Snacks at night. Usually a sugar free fudgesicle, but sometimes I keep thinking I want more, more, more! I just try not to keep anything in the house. I have a new size 12 jeans that are just slightly too tight. I keep picturing those jeans and it's been helping me not eat. I want to get into them! I want to lose more. I am tired of not losing since Sept. It's time to get going again!

    Christmas shopping sucks...

Is it really less expensive? I have been searching for something for my son in law, and it was quite a bit more expensive than what I could have gotten it for, if I had shopped earlier. It was on sale about a month ago for $120 but I was too lazy to go shopping. It's called a Tom Tom- a GPS navigation system. I want to become an online shopper, because I absolutely hate Christmas shopping. Plus I live in the middle of nowhere, and I don't have good stores here.
  9. I purposely searched for a place where it never snows. I left Chicago when I was 21 for the Oregon coast. It has snowed here 3 times in the last 30 years since I moved here. I don't miss it at all. I hope I never see snow again.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Wow! You look great! It's so nice to have before and after pictures. I don't have a digital camera. I hardly ever let anyone take pictures of me. We have both lost about the same amount. I hope to start losing again now that I have a new fill. I haven't lost anything since Sept. Doesn't it feel great to be wearing new clothes and feeling so much better about ourselves?!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hey, where have all my over 50's friends disappeared to? I know you're posting and not out Christmas shopping, lol. I have seen posts in other threads. It think we really need to support each other during this horrible eating season.

    Help- major hair loss

Slim fast low carb has 20 grams of Protein. A lot of people really like Matrix or Ungury. You have to buy it online. I have major hair loss too, and I have been taking Biotin since I had the surgery. A lot of people on here have, and there doesn't seem to be anything we can do to stop it. It stops when it wants to. Keep upping your protein though, because it sure can't hurt.

I Am SO Mad at Myself

I have had months go by with no weight loss. It's extremely frustrating. However, now that nearly a year has passed, I am down 55 lbs. I tried dieting for 3 years, going to the gym and exercising every day, before I was banded. I would lose a couple lbs during the week, and gain it back every weekend. You have your tool, and it will work for you if you have the right fill. But unfortunately, the band does not help with eating chocolate. I am not saying that you eat chocolate. I am saying I do. But when I don't, I lost slowly. I didn't though, until I got the right fill.
  14. I wonder why it took me so long to start reading the R&R section. This is so entertaining.

    Walls of Text

So what you are saying is that things don't have to be broken down into paragraphs? I don't get this. I didn't start this thread to start fights. My point was that posts are just easier to read if they are either indented where there is a break in the paragraph, or spaces put in. When the entire screen is filled up with text, it's harder to read. My children did not fail in school. I made sure they knew what a paragraph was.

    Walls of Text

That's my complaint too. There are threads that I don't post in, but like to read. It makes it hard to figure out what someone is talking about if we have to skip a huge wall of text because it's too hard to read. I love the lively discussions and I really do want to read everyone's responses. Sometimes I find posts that are impossible for me to read. I lose my place too. It's aggravating.

    Surgeon Seeking Feedback

So, please give me some feedback: What do you love about your band surgeon and their practice? Dr. Tersingi is very compassionate and really wants to help people succeed. Two of his nurses are banded. I also love the support group. He will often come to the support group and answer questions. The nurse that leads the support group is extremely informative about the band being only a tool. Her husband is banded, several of her children and other family members are banded as well. What do you hate? It takes a long time to get an appointment for a fill. He is very busy, but that isn't his fault. I wish fluro was available in his office. Our town is small, so it's an outpatient appointment at the hospital which is very expensive. What do we do well? I am not sure what other doctors do well. Considering Dr. Tersigni is doing a blind fill, it's over with in a second and it doesn't hurt at all. We discuss my restriction and what I am looking for with a fill. He finds the port immediately, and tells me to call the office immediately if I am having any problems. What could we do better? Like WasaBubbleButt said, the reasons for the post op diet need to be explained in detail. Dr. Tersigni's nurse does that, but I have seen entirely too many people posting on this board that think that because food went down right after surgery, and they say it didn't hurt, that it's okay to eat solid food a few days after surgery. So many people have no clue about the healing process and why it's important. Thank you for coming to this board and being willing to answer questions. It is apparent that many people who post here aren't getting their questions answered by their own doctor.
  18. Thanks! That was really sweet of you. He is in Chicago right now and won't be back until the middle of Jan. I am glad because I don't have to worry about him while my brother is taking care of him.
  19. I put some prunes in some water and warmed them in the microwave. I remember that when I was pregnant my doc recommended this. It makes them juicy and it definitely helped with my problem today. I also bought some prune juice but haven't had any of that yet. I am completely tired of this problem and I know it's not good for the intestines.
  20. What are you talking about anyway? I have no idea what you are trying to say here. You respect WASa 's knowledge but you have a different opinion. I am sorry but I just don't get your post.
  21. I met WASa last summer when I went to AZ to visit my dad. She is the sweetest person and I feel lucky to have her on this board. It's nice to have someone who is so intelligent and is a wealth of information to be willing to help out and answer questions. I can't wait to see her again when I visit my dad again in a couple of months. She wasn't quite to goal when I met her. She looked great then, so she must be looking fabulous now! My dad is 88 and I dread the inevitable. I have been lucky that he has been is such good health for someone who has smoked for 60 years.

    Walls of Text

I think it's a shame to have to skip a good post just because the poster can't figure out that they are making a post hard to read. I hope some of them read this thread. I don't want to start a war or hurt any feelings, but people should know that their posts just get skipped over if they can't figure out how to make a paragraph. I am glad others agree with me.
  23. Can't the mods track from the IP when someone has more than one ID?
  24. This thread is hilarious! Thank you Tommy!

    Not Enough, Really?

My trainer told me the same thing. I recently asked him about intensity vs. longer cardio. He told me the first 20 minutes you are not burning fat. So if you only exercise for 30 min. you are only burning fat for 10. You need to figure out your target heart rate. You do that by taking your pulse. The standard way to figure out your heart rate is 220 subtract your age, and multiply that by 70-75%. That is the fat burning stage. If nothing else, it gives you something to do while you are working out. I take my pulse several times while I am doing cardio.
