Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

As far as fills go, it takes a long time before you can get a fill and have it last a long ,long time. When you lose fat around the stomach, the band gets looser. It may not show on the scale, but the fat pad gets smaller. That goes on and on until you get closer to goal. My daughter took my jeans in. I thought they were tight enough but she said I was supposed to have them be "more fitted" What do I know. All I know is that I don't like the low rise ones!

That's why I hardly told anyone when I got banded. It does make it hard though to eat around people that don't know though. I feel it's worth it. I went at the fills slowly myself. It's hard to get used to the new way of eating, taking smaller bites, eating slower, chewing more, etc. The bigger the fill, the more careful you have to be. Some of the people in the at or near goal forum have said that eating just doesn't feel as important anymore. I can finally see that. As a fat person, I always looked forward to my next meal or planned what I was going to eat. Now, it's almost like eating is an after thought. I am just as happy with a protein drink as I am with a meal.

    LASIK, What a great experience

Is there anyone in their 50's that has had this done? I really want to know if I would still be wearing glasses most of the time because of not being able to seen close up.

    First Stuck/Slime/PB Episode

I took my son and his girlfriend to a fancy restaurant for his birthday yesterday. I ended up getting stuck right away and having to go back and forth to the bathroom. There was really no reason that I got stuck so fast. I was eating Soup, carefully. Sometimes I think eating is just not worth it. I was thinking about a previous post while I was noticing (gross to much information) that when I would spit the slime into the sink, it was like a big stretchy long string. I remember someone posting about slime and how sometimes it comes out in little bubbles, etc. Like I said, TMI. I think when I go to restaurants for awhile, I am just going to order herbal tea. This next two weeks should be interesting. I am going to see my dad who doesn't know I got banded and he likes to eat dinner out every day.

    I'm in hell...band too tight

I remember very well what it was like to be overfilled. It's too bad you have to drive so far but it's worth it. It's awful to be overfilled. When I don't have good restriction, I try to drink a lot of Protein drinks and eat less so I don't gain. I figure if I did liquids only for 4 weeks after surgery, I can do it again. Hope all is well and you can get another fill as soon as you're ready!

    Countdown to goal.....

Yea, I have been a low carb person too since the 70's when I read Atkin's first book. Sometimes when I am at a certain friend's house who loves to bake, I just can't resist a brownie or something and then I do feel like a drug addict. I can't seem to "just say no" and watch her eat them. I have told her it's gotten to a point where I am not going to be able to visit her at her house. I agree with you too about the exercise. I really get moody when I skip a day. I can't wait to get my Christmas bills paid off so I can afford my trainer again.

    Slow Losers Unite!

The best thing for anxiety and depression is exercise. I can really feel down in the dumps and feel like I really have to drag myself to the gym. I really have to talk myself into going. When I am done though, I feel so much better. Those endorphins that people talk about really do make a difference. I notice a difference too when I skip a day, cause I start feeling grumpy. As far as fills go, when you lose fat around your stomach, the band gets looser and you lose restriction. It might not show on the scale, but the fat pad inside gets smaller. Just try to stay away from carbs and you won't feel as hungry. The digestion of carbs is what makes our stomach growl. If you have to pay for fills, that gets old, for sure. But if you can get them for a decent price or the insurance pays, try to get another one. Won't the doctor give you one if you tell him you're hungry all the time? Another thing I really enjoy when I am feeling discouraged is to go into the chat room here. It's fun to talk to other bandsters!

Yea, it's an enzyme that breaks the food down so it will pass through the band. The papaya enzymes do work, but not quickly. I have never had pineapple juice work. I have heard that other people get it to work though. All I do is throw it up. You can get the papaya enzymes at Walmart with the vitamins. They are in alphabetical order so look near the other things that start with "P" I fill up and old medicine bottle and keep them in my purse. It takes about 6 to do the job. Luckily, they taste good.

I wish they would put a post on the main page about not typing in caps or refer to a link on how to post properly.

    Countdown to goal.....

Congratulations! I never had a doubt that you would get there! So when you're talking low carb, are you just getting carbs from fruits and veggies? Are you able to share this low carb site with us? I do so well eating low carb, and eating right and then all of a sudden, it's like a demon in my body takes over and all I can think about is candy. Chocolate to be exact. My protein shakes are chocolate, so it's not like I don't get any. I hate that. I feel so guilty when I give into it and it never fails that I will gain a couple of lbs that takes a week to take off. The never ending cycle. Paula, do you have any advice? I sure need it.

    Will pills get stuck?

I don't have any problems with pills the size of prozac or effexor. They go right down if I drink warm water with them. It's the big ones like Flaxseed capsules that give me trouble. I have a very tight fill but my little pills give me no trouble at all.

It stand for productive burp. The truth of the matter is that it means puking.

AND another thing that irks me....

I made a post about this awhile back and it got shut down. I call them walls of text. People should realize that nobody is going to read something that takes up the entire screen with no breaks anywhere. It's just too hard to read. I come here to relax, inform, become more informed, and not struggle to read and get a headache!

    I'm in hell...band too tight

Try putting a heating pad on your tummy. I was overfilled once. I am lucky I live 5 min from my dr. I got the fill on a fri and got the unfill on monday. It felt like I had an elephant standing on my chest the entire weekend.

    First Stuck/Slime/PB Episode

Unfortunately, even though this was your first experience with this, it won't be your last. You will be more prepared now though. I always wait before I take the next bite of anything to make sure it went through. My pbs have come to a minimum, but I still have them and they hurt, and the slimming goes on and on. You need to keep spitting it out and not swallow it. That makes it worse. Eventually, whatever is stuck, will go through,or you will pb it up. yuk. I hate it.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

You look great! Fabulous! I wish that I could lose a little faster. It's so maddening to have my body completely used to what I am doing and eating. It gets depressing thinking that the last 10 will never come off. I am happy that i have lost, but I want to be successful at getting to my goal.
  19. Oregondaisy

    Question about slippage

I have had episodes of vomiting when something is stuck, but I think that is quite different from being too tight and vomiting every day almost ever meal. I think that's where you get into problems, being too tight for too long.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yea, I originally had my goal set to 150. I never thought I would see it though. When I started getting close, I thought why not shoot for 145. I am 5'2'' so really that's not low enough but as far as I am concerned, I want to be at a weight that I can maintain, and not be constantly worrying. I sometimes have my doubts that I can get there, but then I never thought I would ever see 155 again either! Gotta love that band!
  21. Oregondaisy

    Will pills get stuck?

You can usually take pills if you take them one at a time. I take mine with warm Water. Warm water opens the band. I don't crush anything and I have a pretty tight fill. I take one, with a bunch of warm water. You can feel if it's stuck and you need to drink more to get it to go through. I take a bunch every morning and a bunch more in the evening.

I did it! I DID IT! I did it!!

BBK, your pictures are so adorable. You don't look like the same person!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

You are doing great! Only 20 to go. I bet you are really excited! I tried on a pair of skin tight jeans size 14 and when I looked in the mirror I was actually surprised at what I saw. It didn't look like my body. I walked out of the dressing room so my daughter could see them on me and she insisted that I buy them. She thought they fit perfectly. I think it will be an incentive to lose a little so they aren't so tight. Either that or they are going to have to stretch out a little if I wear them around the house. It's so hard to be so close to my goal and not see the scale move. It's crazy though. Even though I haven't lost on the scale, some clothes that I tried on a month ago fit perfectly now, and were tight then. I weigh exactly the same. weird. I am at a perfect fill right now too. food gets stuck if I eat too fast. That is a sign to me that restriction is perfect. If everything goes down without chewing like crazy and I don't have to wait in between bites, I know I need a fill. I hope I can stick with this one for a good long while. My friend hasn't had a fill in a year. That's what I want-a long term fill. I hope your fill gets you right to your goal!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I didn't even know that you were thinking about another fill. I thought you said you were happy with where you were at. I am glad you got some taken out. It's horrible to be too tight. I hope this fill is just perfect for you!
