    Slow Losers Unite!

Night time is my hardest time too. That and weekends. Sometimes I think I need to be locked in the house on the weekends so I'm not around any temptations. Even with the band, I have no willpower when it comes to sweets. Now I want to know why everyone around me eats candy cookies and cake, and they aren't fat

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

No, I have never had a fill hurt. Mine is over with in a couple of seconds. Some people do have more of a problem with the dr. finding their port.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

I don't think you should get a fill if you are getting food stuck regularly. Yes, we all get food stuck. You are either taking too big of a bite, or not chewing enough. Getting a fill will just make this worse. Throwing up is what causes bands to slip. When you are at your sweet spot, you get full on a small amount of food and stay full for about 3 hours. You should be able to eat solid protein, chicken, and other meats. Are you still having problems if you eat early in the day?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I'm excited by it, but I am not even sure what I am supposed to do. You guys let me know if you see any posts that you feel are inappropriate. I need to read the rules if I can find them, so I can figure out when someone is breaking them.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Chickie, I am glad you're back. I miss you when you're not around. If something pisses you off, stop reading it and go somewhere else and read. That's what I do. There are so many places to go on the board now. Sometimes I go to where the new people go, because they always have so many questions. They haven't been around long enough to start getting offensive and are hungry for information.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

It got locked by accident. Alex wanted to lock the thread "How is weight loss for those over 50. It's over 100 pages. He accidentally locked the wrong one. I am excited. Alex made me a moderator!

    Need your opinions

I do exercise a lot. I usually go to the gym 6 days a week. I do feel like I can eat more than I could a few weeks ago, but I just don't. I'll see how it goes for awhile and ask the nurse at the beginning of March, at support group. She is a wealth of information.

Yes, I totally understand about the funnel theory. I have explained it that way myself to many people. What I don't get is why people can get stuck on the first bite. It must mean that food is going through the band right away.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yea, the baby shower is at my house. Her cousin is giving it but she lives in a tiny apartment so we are having it here. Her baby is due 4-15. We ordered the cake today. We ordered half a sheet cake. I was afraid 1/4 of a sheet cake wouldn't be enough. I am definitely going to send cake home with everyone and make sure there is none left in this house when everyone leaves. It's terrible to be afraid of food!

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I know exactly what you mean. Losing the same 2 or 3 lbs is maddening. There is no way I could get another fill. I wouldn't be able to eat at all if I did that.

Slow Users-Banded a year or more

I have been really frustrated because I haven't lost anything since December. I exercise all the time and I haven't been eating junk. My portions are so small, I don't see how it's possible not to lose. I was down 2 more lbs this morning, but this weekend is my daughter's baby shower, so I will no doubt have a piece of cake. It's so maddening that something like that will cause me to gain 2 lbs which will take at least a month to lose. It sucks being a slow loser!

Funny things happen when you start to age.

Nobody with a good fill can eat bread. But if you can't eat meat, you might be too tight. Have you thought about having a slight amount taken out? When I was too tight, I had trouble eating so many things, I finally decided it just wasn't worth it. I had a little tiny bit taken out, and now I can eat tiny portions of just about anything. I wouldn't try pizza or bread though. They are just known to cause problems for everyone.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

You are very welcome. I was so frustrated in the beginning. I lost 22 lbs the first month on the liquid post op diet. Then I didn't lose anything for a couple of months. I was ready to tear my hair out. Then I finally realized that the band wasn't going anywhere, and I had to lose more with the way my eating had changed. I am pretty frustrated right now again. I want to lose this last 10 so badly, but I am stuck on another plateau. It's so easy to think "I might as well eat (insert anything sweet) this because I am not losing anyway. But I know if I do that, I won't lose. I figure the scale has to move again eventually. I exercise 6 days a week.

    Padlock and chain!!

I have never heard of either of those. I wonder why vegemite isn't popular over here? Especially if it was started in Chicago. I grew up in Chicago and I never even heard of it until that song came out.

I wish I could lose this last 10 lbs. The scale has moved in such a long time. I am eating right and exercising so I don't get it. Grace, did you have that problem with the last 10?

    The joke's on me

It's not fair that the sugar free stuff has just as many calories as the ones with sugar.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yea, we should all plan a bash near Janet. I am sure Palm Springs has great places to stay. I think my stomach or pouch was irritated for a few days and that was why I couldn't eat. I don't know what would cause that. Today I was able to eat better. I am still being really careful though because I have been on a plateau for so long and I really want that scale to move. Everyone tells me the last few lbs are the hardest to lose. It's weird that I haven't lost anything but pants I couldn't wear a month ago, I can wear now. This weekend is my daughter's baby shower so I will have to watch everyone eat cake:sneaky:

    Slow Losers Unite!

I don't think I could eat 2 cups of cottage cheese. I used to hate it too, but I learned to eat it mixed with yogurt. It's pretty good that way. I am sure I would be full on less than a cup. I really don't understand this whole pouch thing. Why does food get stuck if it's staying in the pouch? It has to be going through the band right off the bat or it wouldn't get stuck if you don't chew well enough. I was told that the thing that makes you feel full is that the band presses on the nerve that tells your brain it's full.

    Padlock and chain!!

So Jacqui, what is vegemite anyway? I am very lucky that I live alone. I don't keep anything in this house that will tempt me. My friend that got banded the same day as me, has teenagers, and it's hard for her. If I had to cook for a family, I would be in trouble.

    Concerned and confused

There is a spot on the board for people with a bmi over 50. Go to the area on the board where it says how much you need to lose. There are a lot of people who have lost down to their goal who had more than 100 lbs to lose. There are so many people who have decided on lap band because they didn't want their insides rerouted even though they were advised to get the gastric bypass.
  21. Oregondaisy

    Will this get better?

I only had to be on clear liquids 24 hours. Then 4 weeks of a liquid diet but I could have yogurt and soups if I blended them.
  22. Oregondaisy

    The joke's on me

That is my biggest complaint with the band. I wish the junk food wasn't the easiest to get down. That has been my biggest downfall. I am sure I would be at goal now, if chocolate got stuck. The good thing is pizza doesn't work anymore. I used to eat half a pizza, I wouldn't even try one piece now.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I didn't have to do any kind of supervised diet but I self paid. My daughter had to do it for a year. Her insurance company wanted to be sure she couldn't lose weight on her own. I still don't know what's going on with me. I am still feeling very full after very few bites. I got this fill at the beginning of Dec. and this is just weird. The scale has to move this week. I don't see how it couldn't.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I have never lost weight consistently. I lose, then I plateau for a long time, then I lose again. Some people lose 1-2 lbs every week. I have never done that.

There are several threads on which foods give people problems. My main thing I have had to give up is pizza and bread. I can eat tiny amounts of bread if I take a tiny bite and chew it until it's liquid. It's just not worth it to me. You should do a thread search on problem foods. The best thing you can do is read this board all over the place to do your research.
