Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry to hear too about how stressful your life has been. Momlambert. I also agree that just because you ate a piece of pizza you aren't at your sweet spot. The sweet spot really doesn't last very long anyway, until most of the fat is gone around the stomach. I had a whopper jr today and I don't think I need more fill. I am pretty tight and I can still eat bread. Most of the time I just don't eat it. I tore most of the top piece of bread off and threw it out the window to the crows. Soon my car was covered with crows. I was only able to eat half of the whooper jr. Then I went shopping in Walmart and came out and ate the other half. I don't feel bad about splurging to eat that because I was very good all day long with my eating, and had just spent 3 hours at the gym. My main point is that I know now that I don't need more fill because I can only eat a small portion of food. As long as I chew something until it's liquid in my mouth, I am fine. I am sure I could eat at least most of one piece of pizza, especially if it's crispy and not doughy. -

Benefiber makes me gassy. Maybe I should try some lady bugs. They are probably full of fiber. -
I Want My Band Removed Now!!!!!
Oregondaisy replied to yazmarrero85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think anyone is intentionally trying to attack Yaz. We all want her to wait a bit before she makes her decision to have another surgery. She already said she made an appointment with her doctor. We are all waiting to see what her doctor has to say about all of this. She said she doesn't want to be talked out of this. I don't think by sharing our stories and experiences we are trying to talk her out of it. Most everyone thinks she needs to wait awhile, and that most of us had a hard time in the beginning. -
I don't know about a complete unfill because I am not a dr. but you definitely need to tell you dr. I agree that this doesn't happen for no reason. Don't risk complications. Make an appointment to see your doctor.

how do i break thru the 'IM DONE'' mentality?
Oregondaisy replied to JSOTO's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't know how kgs work compared to lbs. It looks like you have lost half the weight that you want to though. I couldn't count the time I have just felt fried and turned to chocolate. When I was visiting my dad and trying to get him into an assisted living home, my cousin gave me a little box of chocolates to give to him for Valentines day. Well I know that he has no appetite even for chocolate because there were candy bars all over his house. I ate his box of candy from my cousin on the way home and he never even saw them. I was worn out and stressed to the max because he is 89 and very grumpy and doesn't want to move into assisted living and doesn't want to live alone either. I didn't even care that I ate his candy. I am back on track now though, and this week I lost 3 lbs after not losing anything since Dec. My band is working, and I am not going to stress out over falling off the wagon so to speak. As long as I follow the band rules the majority of the time, I am happy. So you ARE in control. We all have those times when we just don't give a heck for a day or so. -
Fill Restrictions / Need help and answers
Oregondaisy replied to Kandi5912's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You should try mixing up your exercise. If you are doing the same thing all the time, your body is probably too used to it. It's very common to lose restriction. The fat pad around your stomach is shrinking and that loosens the band. Have you looked at Wendall Edward's post on how the band works, and fills and refills? If you are eating as you say you are, and your body is too used to the same exercise, it's very common to plateau for awhile. Are you hungry very quickly after you eat? -
I have heard other people say not to tell them any more than necessary. Mine just asked me how I plan to deal with stress when I can no longer use food for comfort. I told her that I already exercise and exercise has helped immemsely with any stress I might have in my life.

I just can't get started on the pre-op liquid diet. I keep cheating by noon.
Oregondaisy replied to SydneyLouWho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you could lose just as fast eating low carb. I never had any trouble losing a lot of weight doing Atkins, which is practically no carbs. I just could never stick with it after losing all the weight. -

What is this fake pasta? I have heard of low carb pasta, and whole wheat pasta, but not fake pasta! I am glad I don't ever drink alcohol. It would just be one more thing to worry about. You are really close too, Janet! I am sure I will go on another plateau and since it took me since Dec. to lose 3 lbs. I specifically told my trainer yesterday that I want plateau breaking exercises. I told him I didn't know why I was so glad to see him, since I knew he was going to kick my butt! -
There are so many threads about losing hair. My hair is still falling out but it has slowed down. Believe me, I have tried everything anyone has suggested. I have been told there is nothing anyone can do and it will stop when it wants to.

Best of luck. I hope they are able to figure something else out besides having your band removed.

The patient who knew too much....
Oregondaisy replied to Laineyjeanne's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I love astrology. I had my chart done, but I have never been able to figure out all that I would like to know about it, even though I have the book astrology for dummies. I wish you the best of luck. Wouldn't it be great if none of us gained weight as we got older. I weighed 110 lbs in high school and until I had kids. -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have appetite suppessants that I only use occasionally. I have decided I am going to take one next weekend at my daughter's other baby shower. The first one was just for family. This next one is going to have a lot of food there, because there are so many people invited. She is a nurse, so she knows a lot of people at the hospital plus a lot of family friends. There will be many desserts there besides cake. I took one of those when I went to my nephews wedding and it worked like a charm. I have worked very hard this week, and finally broke my plateau, and I don't want to gain anything next weekend. -
How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Oregondaisy replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The sweet spot feels like if you eat one more bite, you're almost to the point where you would feel like throwing up. You feel full, and you stay full for 3 hours on a small amount of food. If I eat a lot of carbs, I feel hungry sooner. It's the digestion of carbs that causes the stomach to growl. Bandsters should be eating Protein first, then veggies and if there is any room left a small amount of fruit. -

Is it only me? Help!
Oregondaisy replied to Bandana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice post Susan. I hope she is as successful as she plans, also. Going through bandster hell is not easy. I was on a liquid diet for 4 weeks. the only thing that saved me is that I live alone, and I didn't go anywhere that I felt any kind of temptation would be around. I lost 22 lbs during that 4 weeks, and that helped keep me motivated too. Kat, I am glad you are explaining the reason for the post op diet. Every doctor has a different opinion on how long it take for things to heal inside. They all do agree though that not following a post op diet can cause complications later on down the road. -
I don't cook either. I buy a chicken that's already cooked from Walmart and it takes me about a week to eat it. I would like a cook book, but I don't have any recipes to share. I make meatloaf out of turkey burger, but I am sure that everyone has their own favorite meat loaf recipe.

I would say be careful with medications like Xanex. They are central nervous system depressants and can cause depression. A lot of doctors will prescribe a medication known as SSRI's for anxiety. I think seeing your doctor is a very good idea. -
If you can't eat meat, you are too tight. The band is designed to work by eating solid Protein, like chicken. Peanuts are full of fat, and not a good protein choice. You should consider getting a slight unfill so you can follow the bandster rules which is protein first and veggies next. Please join us in the slow losers thread. We are all very supportive.

how do i break thru the 'IM DONE'' mentality?
Oregondaisy replied to JSOTO's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You sound so much like me. I go through long plateaus all the time. The only difference is that now I don't sabotage myself and eat a bunch of junk because the scale isn't moving. I would tell you to stay off the scale, but I am addicted to the scale myself. I weigh when I get up and before I go to bed. Are you exercising? Exercise makes all the difference in the world. I really believe that it's because our metabolism has slowed down so much now that we are in our 50's . I was convinced that I would be a band failure. I lost the majority of my weight in the first 4 weeks of being on the liquid diet post op. Now I just tell myself that the band will always be there, and I can keep losing no matter how long it takes. Please join us in the slow losers thread, and the over 50's thread. We are all very supportive! -
I fit into pants that didn't fit me a month ago. There is only a 2 lbs difference between what I weigh now and then. My trainer told me today that I have at least 10 lbs of muscle.
-
You are too tight. I had that same problem. I got a slight unfill and it stopped the problem I agree with everyone else. You need to call your doctor and tell him about this. This is not normal. Like the others said, even the smallest amount taken out can make a huge difference.

Oregondaisy replied to SydneyLouWho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try doing the Atkins diet instead. You won't be hungry at all. That's the great thing about that diet. All you eat is protein. It's the digestion of carbs that causes hunger pains. You can lose weight very quickly with that diet. It's not a good diet long term, but it will get you going on losing. -
I Miss Being 'Normal'...Am I alone in this?
Oregondaisy replied to leahbNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat spinach salads all the time. I mix chicken breast in with it. I agree that you could be too tight. We are supposed to eat meat/solid Protein. -
What kind of weight loss patch? My trainer told me today that I have at least 10 lbs of muscle, so that made me haapy. I am not as tight as you, but I am sure I am tight enough. I just hope I can keep losing. I want to be smaller than a size 14!
