I hate it when people post just to post.....

BooBoo, I have been gone out of town with no computer. Did you have your PS? I read the past couple of pages where you were upset with your dr. What's going on? -
Does the lapband make u not feel hungry or just cause quick fullness?
Oregondaisy replied to massa36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does both. It does sit on the vagus nerve which is the nerve that tells your brain that you are full. When you have good restriction, you feel full with a small amount of food. Also, you don't get as hungry as fast. I hope that helps. -
Is it back on? I had my dvr set to record it and nothing has been recorded so I thought it wasn't on anymore.

How are things going with the BF Crispy? I got an email from someone at singlesnet today. That surprised me. I also got an email from one of the guys who wrote to me from match. I am still plugging along hoping some day I will find someone, but at least I am happier with myself these days. The band has given that to me! -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am back from Arizona. Being there and getting rid of all my dad's stuff was very stressful. I had ice cream every day and didn't even feel guilty. I wasn't able to get to the gym I joined while I was there very often either. I was afraid to see how much I gained. The first thing I did when I got home was get on the scale. I gained 5 lbs. I will have to go back to the basics to get the sugar out of my system. I will go back on Protein shakes all next week. That always does the trick to get me back on track. I don't have time to go back and read what I missed while I had no computer. Hopefully, I will have time tomorrow. -
I am in East Mesa and I am trying to get rid of my dad's stuff. We are having a moving sale and have had good luck getting rid of the junk but not the furniture. I listed the dining room china cabinet and table on Craig's list, and have a bedroom set too. I need to get back to Oregon next week. Does anyone know about consignment shops or anything? My dad is 89 and can't deal with this and I need to get back home. I need the house empty to get carpeting installed and get it on the market. Any advice is appreciated!

I had a great time. I wish I could be a snow bird. My dad moved into assisted living so I am reallly afraid I won't be able to come back! I won't have his house to stay in if it sells. I love it here most of the time. I can't take the heat for the entire summer, but I love it for vacations since it's not very warm on the Oregon coast where I live.

Three things that are driving me absolutely BATTY in these forums!!
Oregondaisy replied to Fanny Adams's topic in Rants & Raves
Well if I don't chew unti it's liquid, food gets stuck and that gets old. It's just so much easier to down a Protein drink when I am in a hurry. That seems to be often! Eating on the run and banding don't mix very well. -

I am very big on drinking the 64 oz of Water a day. If I don't, I get consitpated. The thing about this thread is that people do things their own way. If they ask for advice, and then someone gives it, they shouldn't get upset or justify their behavior when someone else offers an opinion. Protein drinks work great for me. I get sick of chewing and I like the way they taste. But I don't complain about being hungry. If I am hungry, I eat. I do try to force the water because if I don't, it's pretty darn painful. I will fully admit I don't eat the veggies I should because I am just not hungry. -

I am glad to hear that you are under good care. Let me know what you find out. I will be anxious to hear what the problem is. I sure hope everything's okay for you and maybe you just need to be hydrated and have your tummy rest. -

I love working out with my trainer too. Plus I found a weight training class that I absolutely love. Cardio is great but the weight training is what has made my legs look better than they have in my life. The classes are fun and make the time go by quickly. I like the weight training classes better than the jazzercise type classes. Had the first day of my dad's moving sale out of the way. I am so glad to have one day of it gone. I am not as nervous now. Only ran across one butt head. I listed the furniture on Craig's list. I met a fellow bandster and it was her suggestion. It was a great idea. I have met several fellow bandsters that live close to my dad's house when I got on the AZ thread. It's so great to actually meet the people we visit with on LBT! -
I had found a lady in the yellow pages that does estate sales when I was here in Feb. Then when I called her and told her my daughter had her baby and I was ready to come back, she said she was going to be out of town this particular weekend, so she couldn't help me. She said around here they do them thrus. fri. and sat. since so many people in this neighborhood are retired. I just put the furniture on Craig's list. A fellow bandster I met while I was here suggested that, and it was a big help. I didn't realize so many people check Craig's list for garage/moving sales. I am having dinner tomorrow with another fellow bandster, so I will be getting to have some time to myself. I didn't realize there were so many bandsters in my dad's neighborhood, but I check the Arizona thread and have met some extremely nice people.

Apple, are you not able to get into your band surgeon? I would post this on the complications thread. This does not sound right to me. If your'e completely unfilled and still having problems I think you need to see a doctor who is very experienced with banding. I am not sure about ER doctors knowing about band problems. -
You need to get some taken out, I am sorry to say. You are risking complications with your band down the road. If you can't even drink a Protein Drink, you are too tight. It's just not worth it to risk losing the band later on down the road. Go and see your dr. and tell him exactly what is going on.
-
It depends on how long ago you had your unfill. It sounds like you need a fill. The band gets looser around the stomach as you loose fat around the stomach. That may be what happened. If it's been awhile since you started feeling you can eat too much, get a fill.

Thanks for your support everyone. It really does mean a lot. Had the sale starting today. It went well. Sold a lot of junk but no furniture. A guy might even be interested in the house. that would be great! I have been so busy I haven't even had a chance to use the pool here. I have an appointment with a trainer at the gym I use here so I will soon be letting out some frustrations!

It looks like we are all sort of in the same boat with our parents. My brother is no help to me at all. I asked him if he wanted anything out of the house. He told me to look in the pocket of his pants that he left here and mail that to him. So I mailed him a bag of pot. I put his address in the return address spot. There are so many family photos and things I would have thought he would want, but that was all he wanted. Needless to say, he's not been of any help emptying out this house. Tomorrow the sale starts and I will be so glad when it's all over. At this point I don't even know if anyone will show up. I put signs out all over and checked online to make sure the ad went in the paper. I wish my daughter and Sonin law didn't have to leave in a couple of days. I will be left to clean up the mess.

I am only 5'2" so my bmi is still considered overweight at 145. I couldn't care less though. My trainer says 10 lbs of it is muscle and I am thrilled to have muscle in my thighs instead of fat. That is one of the best parts off all of this. I have become addicted to exercise and do it now because it feels good. All the benefits are just a bonus. Good luck to all the new people joining us. I will talk to everyone more when I get home to my own computer. I never know whenI am going to lose the signal on this wireless connection. My best advice to anyone just starting out is learn to enjoy exercising. I am sure I would look a lot flabbier if I hadn't gained all this muscle from weight training. -
I was on antidepresants for over 20 years. They took mine off the market because it causes liver failure. I tried just about every other one and just couldn't handle the side effects. About the same time, I decided to try to lose weight and started exercising like crazy. I didn't lose any weight but I noticed pretty quickly how much better I felt when I exercised daily. I haven't had to take anitdepressants for about 3 years now. I never lost any weight with all this exercise, but getting off those meds was worth it. That's why I ended up getting banded. I realize now that I started gaining weight all those years ago, when I started on anti depressants. Two of my best friends are shrinks and they tell me all the time that weight gain is a side effect of almost any antidepressants. The anti anxiety med you are taking is a central nervous system depressant and a side effect can be depression. So yes, all of your medication can be related to weight gain. One of the many antidepressants I took caused huge sugar cravings. They tried to give it to me again for insomnia, in smaller doses and I notice immediately when I take the tiniest dose that the next day I crave sugar like crazy. Have you googled your meds and read all about the possible side effects? I always have every single one possible for every med I have tried. My daughter always tells me that I get the side effects after reading they are possible. It's the other way around. I get the side effect so I go online and try to find out what could be causing it. Anyway, I am really happy to be off all meds since I exercise every day. I wish you the best. This is not an easy problem to deal with, I know very well.

Lauren, I am so glad you are okay. This situation does suck, but I work for an attorney that deals with car accidents and at least you don't have to deal with pysical therapy on top of all the rest of your jobs and school. I am really glad you're okay. I wish you could have just blown that $500 on whatever you wanted.:tongue2::ohmy:

Wow! This is a perfect thread for me. Mrs. Fips Flops you are a saint. You have so much going on and are still taking care of your mom. When I was 25 all I did was party and didn't have a care in the world. My heart goes out to you. I have been dealing with my elderly father. I moved him into assisted living in Feb. which he absolutely hates. He's 89 and can't live alone so I know he's frustrated that he has no choice. So now I am back here trying to clean out his house and sell all his stuffl. This is a man that has never thrown anything away in the last 20 years. I am trying to get the house ready to put on the market and have a "moving sale" all in 2 weeks time. I need more like 2 months to get this done. My dad thinks all his junk is worth a fortune and is having a fit because I am making him replace the carpet to get the house on the market. I am ready to tear out my hair. I wish he liked Oregon but he hates it and I don't want to move to Arizona either. It's a great place to visit and I would love to be a snow bird but right now this situation has no answer. Plus now if the house sells, I will have nowhere to stay to even come and visit him. So, I have been eating ice cream every day and will probably have 10 lbs to take off by the time I get back home. At least with the band, I know it's possible to lose the weight again when I get back into my old routine.

Was anyone banded in December of '06?
Oregondaisy replied to thebionicbroad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am one happy bandster on an unhappy vacation. I am under a lot of stress right now with my elderly father and eating ice cream every day. I am sure I have gained quite a bit but the great thing with the band is that once I get back home and back to my routine, I know it will come off again. I am never really hungry but dealing with too much head hunger right now due to an overload of stress. -

Janet, How scary that your DIL was robbed and stabbed. I am so glad she is okay. I will never be a size 8. I would probably have to los 40 more lbs. I wish I was taller. I am sure I have gained at least 5 lbs here but I am not going to worry about it until I get home into my own routine. Welcome to all the new bandsters. We have a wonderful gift around our tummys. I may not be a size 8 but I am thrilled to be a 12. I love that really the only hunger I get is head hunger. I am a happy bandster even though I am not a happy camper right now, trying to empty out my dad's house. -

You are all very sweet! I do have my daughter and son in law with me and they have been a big help. We are having a big estate sake this weekwnd. It's just been hard to get ready for it cause my dad is 89. Everything has to be washed before it can be sold. My dad was not good about having the cleaning lady come like he needed to. Plus he is a huge pack rat. We got a dumpster today. It will all work out. IfI don't have enough time to get it clean enough, after the sale, he will have to hire someone. I was only able to take 2 weeks off work and my kids took a week off. This is more like a two month job rather than a two week job. He's already moved into his assisted living place and the house is just going to have to sit until it's ready to be shown by a realtor. -
HELP! Stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Oregondaisy replied to eejaydiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call the doctor. I have never heard of this. I have talked to a lot of bandsters and nobody ever descibes what you are talking about. Pain between your back and shoulder blades just doesn't sound right. Whether or not you need a fill seems like a separate issue. Talk to your dr. about this!
