Come out of the band failure closet!

Brandy, I do not want you to leave either! Believe me, I know what it's like to live with a slow metabolism. My resting metabolic test proved what I already knew. I don't know how I got a slow metabolism but that's what the problem was. I exercised my brains out for 3 years before I got the band. I never lost anything. The Beck Diet Solution is not a diet. It's about positive reinforcement when you stick to whatever plan you choose. You make little cards and on each one, you write down why you want to lose weight. You're supposed to look at them several times a day. It's a whole routine to change your thinking. It helped me a lot because my biggest problem is junk food, sweets in particular.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

You know for me, I think the band does more than 25% of the work. I am really never hungry. There are a lot of times that I drink a protein drink because I am just not hungry and I know I need to get some protein in. I really could not put into percentage how much it's the band and how much it's me. I am the one that goes to the gym every day, but I did that for 3 years before I got the band. The band stops me from eating half a pizza, an entire sub sandwich, etc. It's true that the band doesn't stop me from eating chocolate. I know that even when I fall off the wagon and eat chocolate, the fact that my regular meals are so small really helps with my calories count for the day.

I like that article that's posted on here that having the lap band is a learning curve. She writes that we had surgery on our stomachs not our brains. That's was what I was trying to say above in another post. I don't have a doubt in my mind that if something went wrong with my band, I would gain all my weight back. My brain still wants junk food. It's the band that forces me to eat the tiny portions that saves me if I do indulge myself in junk food. I would be happy to get a sleeve. Then I could stop worrying that something was going to go wrong with my band.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

I hate snow. 4 times in 35 years that I have lived here is even too much. I would be happy if I never saw it again. Snow means cold, and I hate cold too!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Momlambert, I am so sorry to hear about all that you have been through in the last year. I had to move my dad into assisted living and sell all of his things. Just that alone caused me to gain 5 lbs which I have since taken off. The band is a big help to not keep gaining and gaining. 70 lbs, everyone is different. I would think if you tell your doctor that you are hungry all the time, and that the band is not doing what it is supposed to do, that he should give you a fill. As long as you are not eating junk food, your tool was meant to help lose weight eating small portions.

Was anyone banded in December of '06?

That's for sure! Yes, you are still a banded 12-6 patient. That will never change, even if you do have your band in a plastic bag:biggrin:

You know, you can just call me Denise:biggrin: Where is your homeland? Chicago is a great place to visit but I sure don't miss those winters. The entire reason I moved here was because I never wanted to see snow again. It has snowed here 4 times in the 35 years I have lived here.

I don't even know what the point of having the friends thing on our profile. I mean it's great to have friends and everything, but what is the purpose of having them listed? It seems a little on the strange side to me.

I have a friend who has been banded for 6 years. She got completely unfilled because she thought she learned new eating habits. She immediately gained 15 lbs. It's our brains not just our stomach that causes us to go back to the eating habits we had before WLS. I would get a sleeve in a heart beat if anything happened to my band. WasA, I am so glad you're home from the hospital and on the road to recovery!!

Come out of the band failure closet!

Yea, that was how I did the test. Do you think it's pretty accurate as far as how many calories I need to eat per day? It's pretty hard for me to eat 1,000 calories per day sometimes. I would like to lose a little more, but I have to eat like a bird to lose.

The weather in Portland is so much better than where I live on the Oregon coast. I wish sometimes when I decided to move away from Chicago, I had moved anywhere than here. I am pretty much stuck here now. I would never leave my new 8 week old grandson or my kids. If they ever move, I will be right behind them!

For the same reason I had ice cream and a protein drink for dinner. Sometimes the sugar devil has so much power!
  15. WasA really cares about Weight Loss Patients. She really tries hard to make sure that those people who can not afford a US doctor chooses a doctor in Mexico who she trusts enough that she would put her own life in their care. I have to say I admire her for being so passionate and caring for people she doesn't even know.

Yea, the scale would move if I had more willpower. I hate that there is so much junk food at my job. I had a handful of chocolate covered raisins today.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Yes, that was what he said, when I asked him about it! I can see how easy it would be to do, when you don't use your real name on match. You can go to your sent messages and figure out what you have said to someone, but he must have forgotten my user name since we started talking on the phone and went to regular email a few weeks ago. He was really embarrassed by it though.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Easting slowly and taking little itty bitty bites is critical when you have the right fill. I hear people saying all the time that they can't eat certain foods. I can eat anything, as long as I make my bites like little slivers and chew it up until it's liquid in my mouth. I would rather do that then have food get stuck. Once I learned to do that, I have never had another problem with food getting stuck. It was hard to learn, but worth it.

Yeah, there are a lot of good books out there. I really like the Beck Diet solution. It's not a diet. It's mostly about positive reinforcement when we stick to the plan. It's a pretty helpful book.

    Dating, geez, HELP.

There is a thread for single bandsters. We have all discussed our problems with dating. There are people there of all ages. I have really enjoyed that thread. I joined the dating sites, and it's very depressing to message back and forth with a guy and then when you send your picture, they stopped writing. I recently met a guy from match.com and it's working out very nicely.I thought it would never happen. when you get close to goal, you'll feel a lot more confident and it shines out to other people.

Was your test done just like mine? My doctor said it's the only way to accurately get your resting metabolic rate. There are charts that are supposed to be able to calculate it online, but I doubt if they are accurate. I am not saying your's wasn't accurate- I am just wondering how they did yours.

Say No To Carbs 2 Day Challenge...come Join Me

I am low carbing. I need to stick with it. I am at my own goal, but it's still in the overweight bmi. I am happy to be in a size 12, but 10 more lbs would be fabulous. Besides, if I don't do low carb, I gain weight. yesterday, Atkins drink for dinner lunch chicken and green Beans dinner pork chop and green beans. I didn't even have a snack after dinner and the scale didn't move. I am bummed.

Thanks Crispy. He accidentaly sent me a message from match yesterday that he meant to send to someone else. It was very uncomfortable until I figured out that he must have meant it for someone else. It said that he had met someone on match and they spent the day together and he doesn't want to see anyone else. I thought how could he have spent the day with someone else when we were together all day. He was really embarrassed when I asked if he meant to send that message to me!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yea, at the movies it's pretty much covered in butter. I try not to have more than a handful of my friend's but it's better not to have any. It's hard to stop if I start.
