How much of ur long term success is from developing healthy habits or actual restriction?
Oregondaisy replied to marfar7's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
The thing I have to stay away from is candy. There is no restriction when it comes to candy. It's around all the time, at the bank, every check stand I come in contact with etc. It's a choice and decision not to eat it if it's offered or buy it no matter how good it looks. I still have a sweet tooth and no amount of restriction is going to hold me back if I decide to start eating m & ms. -
I wish I could get a hold of some phentermine for some rocky situations. It would be nice to have something to lean on, ,when you know there are going to be goodies and temptations at a social engagement. Without that, it's digging deep for willpower. Sometimes I have to make cards and look at them frequenly, encouraging myself. I put them in the car and on my mirror and carry some in my purse. I am so afraid of gaining and it's soooo easy!

How was your 5:2 day today?
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've got to do better that's all there is to it! I don't want to gain anymore and I am so afraid that's going to happen. I am exercising, but bad foods seem to come along every day, mostly through Bill. I just have to dig deep for willpower and "just say NO"! easier said than done. Today he came home from the store and said he bought me some healthy treats because I have been complaining about too much snacking. HIs idea of a healthy treat was tortilla chips and pico di gio. A far cry from a string cheese! I know what I need to do and I just have to insist that no between meal snacks enter the house.I'll have to tell him he can eat it in his car, the way I had to tell the last guy. Other than that, tomorrow is a friend's birthday so I am sure there is going to be some dessert around during lunch tomorrow. Hopefully, it will be one dessert split between 4 people. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Florinda, if you're in Oregon, I definitely think we should meet up. I can come to Eugene, you know, if that's where you'll end up. -
Comfort zones, true weight plateaus
Oregondaisy replied to NurseGrace's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
The plan that Georgia gave you the link for really worked for me. If you're eating vegan, you may just be eating too many carbs. As far as exercise goes, I have to look at is as medicine. I feel so much better when I am done, even if I have to drag myself there. Good luck. you can do this. You just have to get your head back into it and go back to the basics. -
If you allow yourself to eat goodies all the time, candy, Cookies, etc, it will be hard to lose. those things are allowed in limited amounts, special occasions, etc. If you follow the plan of Protein first, then veggies, limit your fruit, and watch your carb intake, you can't help but lose. Also get in some kind of exercise, and drink losts of Water.

Wanda, good luck on the play! Making a profile on OK cupid for your daughter makes good sense. My daughter went on a lot of online dates when she was about 30, but she ended up meeting her husband through friends. If she is shy, this will be good practice for her, even if she does not like the guy, dating and feeling comfortable around guys is kind of something you need to learn Sheryl, Where did you meet your new guy? I'm so glad you like him! Did you find him at a meet up? I'm dying to know. My doctor wants to do surgery on my back. I see him again in early June. My ins. rejected his request for an mri and it pissed me off! I am gaining weight and it's driving me crazy. Bill makes it so hard. For one thing, he likes to eat dinner really late. Last night we went out with his friends, and the entire meal was carbs. -

Sheryl, I already belong to a group like that. It's a special OH group, It's the only place I go on OH. It's called Single friends living life. They have all had WLS. You might like that group. It's completely private and hidden like this one.I could see about getting you in, but you probably have friends here on Bariatric Pal that you want to be in a group with you. The regular singles board on OH doesn't seem to have people who consistantly post. Had a great day today. I did well with my eating untiil just now. I came home at 9:30 and had several snacks. I hate when I do that! -

Yes I would like to know more about the Hit method of exercise. I think I know what it is, but not quite sure. Sheryl, if you go to groups, there is button for start a new group. I think you have to message Alex if you want it completely secret. I hope you aren't going to leave our group! If you still want gamer girl in here, we could take a vote. I was under the impression that I was not the only one who is on the computer less, and was having trouble keeping up with the posts because of that. If I am the only one who feels that way, please let me know. i am trying to do a fast at least once a week, but since Bill is in my life, 500 calories is difficult. I should do it on tuesdays since that's the night we both sleep in our own houses. -
When does regain or leveling off tend to happen?
Oregondaisy replied to vogue's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
It's very difficult. There are temptations everywhere. All day long I seem to run into food I am not supposed to have. I have to use a lot of willpower at 5 years out. It's very easy for me to gain 5 lb. Then it would take a couple weeks to lose it, and it's hard because on the weekends, I tend to gain. Then I have to work on not gaining more. It will never change. I have accepted that a long time ago .I'd rather fight it at this weight. When I look at other women my age, they seem to get huge pot bellys after menopause. My sister in law has always been skinny. Since menopause, she has put on a bunch of weight. I eat very little, but then sweets will make me gain way more than a piece of candy weighs. I've never understood that! -
I love that show! I can't wait for the next episode.

When does regain or leveling off tend to happen?
Oregondaisy replied to vogue's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I have to keep a constant watch. It's so easy to gain 5 lbs. Then it's very hard to take it back off. I don't want to battle another 15 lb regain, but it's not easy. I still have good restriction at meals, but in between meals, I seem to run across goodies and temptations everywhere. Vigilence is a good word. -

I'd like to know a good brand. Our health food here says in order for them to work, they need to be refrigerated. I see them in all the stores not in the refrigerator. I am confused! -

I was on okay cupid as well. I think it's a good site. I like all the questions they have and it's fun reading people's answes. Bill and I actually met on POF though. We met a couple of months before seeing each other as a couple. I had just broken up with Allen in October, and immeditaely went online looking at all the sites for people to date. I went on a lot of dates between October and January. Bill has some sort of intestinal stomach bug. I just hope I don't get it. -

Boy I have missed so much! Florinda I am so glad we heard from you. You know I am right on the coast. Are you going to come up the coastas far as OR after you leave Northern Ca? Bill and I just made that trip, going up highway 1 and 101. You know I would love to meet you . I go to Eugene all the time! did you meet this guy through an online dating type site? I would love to hear how you two found each other!! Sheryl, I am as far out as Susan.I don' t have the problems she has. I know people farther out than me who don't have problems either. We can run into problems if we don't take our Calcium citrate. I do the chewables from Bariatric advantage. I don't care about the calories. I feel my health is more important. They taste like Tootsie rolls. I have them on auto ship so I get 2 bags a month for 20.00. I would like to meet you too, but you have never answered whether that would be possible. I go to Portland all the time. Georgia, I know how you feel. I'll be 62 this fall and I don't feel like it, except when my back really hurts. Getting the sleeve has made me so much healthier! Cathy, I am so glad you're in your house!! As far as adding anyone, I am totally against that. I want us to be able to read and post without feeling stressed that I am missing posts because I don't have time to read them all. If gamergirl wants a support group , she should start another group. She can call it anything she wants. Peole close to goal, People close to being a vet, whatever. She can PM the people she likes, and start a group. Sorry if I have missed anyone. I haven't been able to get online. Bill is really sick. It's 2:30 am now, I need to go to bed. I'm having trouble too, with weight gain. Bill is such a bad influence, as far as fasting goes. It's a lot harder when there is someone eating around me. -

Yes , good luck with the move Cathy. Finally, after 2 years, I have my boxes (other than some books to go through) I finally have all my boxes in out of the garage. Sheila and Dee, I hope your funk is lifting!! -
I tried to get off of my ppi and could not do it. I was off of it for 6 months. It was hell. I was constantly having to take gaviscon or something similar. Plus my stomach hurt all the time. I just make sure to take my Calcium citrate.

I just wanted to say how glad I am that we have this group. We can say anything we want here, and feel supported. I had a pretty good day. There are some tall ships here from Washington, and we went on an evening cruise and then out to dinner. I don' t know why I seem to have more restriction lately. I ate about 3 bites of steak and very few veggies. Does anyone else have a gas problem? It seems like no matter what i eat, I have the toots. It's so embarrassing. -

I love our group too. Dee we are here for you, please feel free to rant or complain or ask for encouragement, whatever you need! I am struggling to take off my vacation gain. I really need to fast. I am so glad I was not in a relationship when I was doing 5:2. It was so much easier to fast when I didn't have a man around. It's amazing that even though I don't work, my day seems so busy that I barely have time to clean my house. Between the gym taking up my morning, and going over to see my baby grand daughter, and Bill around most of the time, it's difficult to get time to myself. I rarely even have time to check the rest of the board. I feel really bad for recommending Dr. aceves to Irene. I really would like to know what went wrong. -

I haven't been able to post because I've been having computer problems. This whole issue with Dr. A has me concerned. I am the one who talked Irene out of going to Cirangle who is supposed to be a fabulous surgeon in CA. She wanted to save the difference in the cost for her up coming PS. I sent her a PM and I hope she answers it, regarding whether she believes her acid problems are the fault of Dr. Aceves. I know other people who have had horrible acid issues since becoming sleeved. I am glad I had mine checked when I went back to Mexicali for my face lift. Dr. Campos did a scope and said it looked perfect after 2 years. I would love to comment on everyone's posts. I go out every tues night with my friends, so it's now after 3 am. I am glad to hear from those of you who haven't posted in awhile. Hopefully, tomorrow, I will have some time to bring up 2 windows so I can look at all the posts to respond to everyone. I gained around 5 lbs on my vacation, and I don't seem to have the willpower to fast or do anything to take it off. It scares me. I did make it to the gym today, so I think my dedication to staying at goal will come back after I get rid of some carb cravings. I hope so anyway! Have a great Wed. everyone! I love our group! -

Sarah, I have heard of this surgery and know some people who have had it. After he goes back to regular food, he will still have some foods that are hard to eat, just like when we started solids. I pray all goes well. Cathy I am so glad to hear you're finally done with all the paperwork and can move into your new home. I hope you have a great time at the beach. Sheryl, I'm glad to read you're feeling better and even optimistic about finding a partner. I am sure it will be interesting weeding through all the toads at first, but your prince charming is out there. I also hope we hear from Florinda. She's been very quiet. Bill and I are heading home and will be home on Sat. I've had a fabulous vacation and have seen some gorgeous country here in California. the best part is Bill and I have gotten along great, even spending every day from morning til night together. That gives me hope for our future. I am really freaked out that I haven't weighed in 2 weeks and have no idea how much I've gained. I noticed a nice scale in his sister's bathroom where we are staying, and I plan to weigh in the morning. Plus I lost a bunch of hair in the shower this morning and I am wondering if it had anything to do with fasting. AS for Dr. A. I have x rays of my stomach and sleeve that he gave me. It looks great, and I feel great. I think people who have had damage done to their stomachs from the band are the ones that are having problems. Maybe Dr. A should have removed the bands and let them heal for a few months before doing revision surgery. I know someone else who had a lot of damage from the band, and she had to go to a revision specialist here in the US. I wish I could have met up with Irene (LilDiva) while i was in Sacremento. She gave me her phone number, and I plan to call her when i get home. -

l love my sleeve and I would really hate to find out later on down the road that it wasn't done right. I know when I went down there for my PS , I had dr. campos do a scope on me to see if everything looked okay. I don't have an acid problem unless I forget my medication. -
Restriction Question for the Long-Timers
Oregondaisy replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I can eat around 3oz of a steak. For some reason, not much chicken breast. I can eat a chicken leg, or a couple of wings, or not an entire thigh. I can eat 3 baby back ribs. sometimes only 2 I still have very good restriction, even after 5 years. Sometimes I do judge it wrong. I think I can eat more than I can. Even after I am finished eating, I don't realize I ate too much. In those cases, I have thrown up. It happens more in restaraunts when I am talking and they bring so much food. I don't pay close enough attention, and I am way too full 10 min after I have eaten. -

Sheryl, I am surprised that many people expect so much out of you, re: private messages. You should write something out and copy and paste it into your replies. Say you're sorry that you don' t have the time you would like to respond, but with working full time and a busy life, it's just not possible. Don't let these people suck up your time. I saw that news about the tornado. I just can't even imagine having to go through that. People's houses completely leveled. It's just so sad. Feed, I am going to PM you. I am going to be down town Sacramento with w2 hours to kill while Bill is at the doctor. -

Hi all, I've been talking to Bill's step mom. She was a nurse practioner/midwife and she feels that it's next to impossible for his ex to be pregnant at 53. The ex is a nurse and I guess she had told the step mom when they met, that she would do anything to keep Bill. She would have access to positive maternity tests and could easily photo copy someone's and change the name . I hate being away from the scale. I have been trying not to eat the wrong foods but not being able to weight every day makes me think I am gaining weight. I probably won't even get home until Tuesday. I am so glad you're feeling better Sheryl. And I'm happy that 2 of our gals in our group are going to be able to meet! That's awesome!
