    Choking during sleep! Need advice!

Yes. I have medication that I am supposed to take in the evening. Sometimes I forget to take it and it's right at bedtime and I take it anyway. I drink a bunch of hot Water with it because hot things are supposed to open the band. Sometimes I can tell it feels stuck. Other times it doesn't feel stuck, but then that shooting water and pill problem happens. I have another banded friend who will not eat anything after 7 pm because she says she will have the same problem with something coming up in her sleep.

    Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey

I would have to get breast implants. Since I have lost weight, I have no boobs. I never had much on top growing up, and losing weight definitely did not help the situation. It's okay. I am thrilled to have lost the weight!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Lynn, You are right. You will meet someone. I met a lot of people, but none were the right one for me, until now. It's so great to meet people when we feel more confident after losing weight. Rugman, It's called a resting metabolic test. My surgeon's office had the equipment. I wasn't allowed to exercise for 48 hours before the test. It had to be done first thing in the morning 8am. They stuck something like a close pin on my nose, hooked me up to something that looked similar to a computer, and for 20 min. I had to breathe in and out of my mouth. Then I got a print out with a graph on it that showed where my metabolism was, which showed very slow. It said to lose weight I had to consume 1,000-1200 calories per day, depending on how much exercise I did. It didn't tell me about fat calories, carbs or Proteins. I basically just counted calories. There are online sights to do that, but I used a book most of the time. Most things have the calories on the packages now a days. I also measured my food to make sure my portions were the same size as the postion listed. Hope that helps.

Can I decide NOT to get a fill?

scrambled eggs do seem to be a problem for a lot of people. They don't give me any trouble. I always take little tiny bites of whatever I am eating though.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Yeah, I had some pretty horrible first meetings with other people. I know that Bill and I wouldn't have hit it off it weren't for the band. He is really into fitness. The band has really changed my life in so many ways! I am really glad to hear things are still going great with you. I know you want to start a family someday.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Carol and Lynn, thanks for the good wishes. I have been wanting someone in my life for a long time. Everyone told me I would find someone if I stopped looking. My thought was I would never find anyone unless I kept looking. I never go anywhere so I knew there wasn't much of a chance to meet someone unless it was from a dating site. I sure met a lot of frogs before finding this person. He is worth the wait though!

Are there any low bmi's who talk often?

I just found this thread. I just want to encourage all of you lower bmi people. I was a self pay because my insurance company has "no WLS of any kind is covered" in their little booklet. Lower BMI people tend to lose slower than those people who have a lot more weight to lose. If I can be of any help, let me know. I don't know anything about insurance, but I can sure help with any questions you have with living with a lap band! It took me 16 months to get to goal.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Can you crush your pills? They make pill crushers and then you can put it in something to get it down. I always take my pills with hot water. Hot will open the band. Can you take them later in the day? A lot of people find themselves to be more open than in the morning.

Can I decide NOT to get a fill?

Just tell the doctor that if you had another fill, you would be throwing up constantly. You don't have to get a fill. Just call and tell them you don't need one. It's as simple as that. You may loosen up after you lose some more weight and the fat pad around your stomach melts away. That's when you need a fill. When you find you can eat anything you want, and way more than you should, then get another one!

    Which type are you?

I am glad this thread was brought to my attention. There were some really good things said about food addiction, addiction in general, mental illness issues etc. The main thing we all have to remember is we are all here because we want to lose weight or at least not hate each ourselves for being overweight. Obesity is not fun. What is that saying? Misery loves company.

    A thread for Single Bandsters

Chrispy, I am so excited! He is definitely the man I have been waiting for. We have seen each other every day since the day we met one month ago. I went to a wedding last weekend with him and met his entire family. I really had fun at the wedding. This past weekend we went camping with my kids. My DD and SIL have a really nice boat. We had a blast! Things are going so great! He said he has never been this happy, and I can say I haven't been this happy in many years! How are things with you?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Susie519, I had a lot of trouble losing weight. I had to go to the gym 6 days a week and count calories carefully. I don't know what you're eating, or if you exercise. You said maybe you needed to do more on your part, so if you tell us what you're eating and whether or not you're exercising, we can help.
  14. I think it's a real shame that people get offended when we are trying to let you know that you won't know 1 year from now or 5 years from now, if you band slipped because you didn't follow doctor's orders, or because you would have had a slip anyway. I am not judging anyone. If my band slips, I know it wasn't because I didn't follow the rules. And I don't remember whoever said if (I) or we could stay on liquids for weeks, we are so disciplined that we didn't need the surgery. I was very disciplined with every diet I ever tried the first few weeks. I could lose weight but I always gained it back plus more. The band is the reason I am at goal, not because I am disciplined. After I got all my fills, I was satisfied on a very small amount of food. That never happened on any other diet.

Slow Users-Banded a year or more

Usually you get a defill if you are throwing up a lot or having a lot of heartburn or problems in general. If you're able to eat small portions and not feel hungry for 3-4 hours, you don't need a defill. The only way I got to goal was by working my butt off at the gym. Walking is good, but it may not be getting your heart rate up to the level it needs to be for weight loss. You can take your pulse and find out. Take 220 minus your age and multiply that by 70% and you will find out if you are in the target heart rate. Take your pulse for 15 seconds and multiply that by four to see what your pulse is for one minute. It needs to be in the 70-80% range for weight loss. I hope this helps someone.

    Just ate....

WasA, I am so happy for you. Even if it took 2.5 hours, you got your chicken!! I don't even want to say what I ate this weekend. I went camping and ate something about every 5 minutes. That's the great thing about the band. Since I am never really hungry, I will do Protein shakes this next week and lose however many lbs I gained over the holiday weekend. I might have to do some extra cardio too, but eating like it was the last food I would ever see again, all weekend long, sure was fun!

I hate it when people post just to post.....

LJM, Congratulations! That is so cool that you are having a baby. My new grandson is 11 weeks old now and is the light in my life. I LOVE babies! My baby daughter turned into a nightmare between the ages of 13-18.Teen agers can be very difficult to raise! Now she is my best friend. She had gastric bypass and lost 160 lbs and gained 30 during her pregnancy, which she has already lost. We don't have a lot of bugs here on the coast in Oregon. Mosquitos can be bad in other parts of Oregon. We have a lot of slugs and snails around here though. They are gross! And of course Froggy knows I have a yard full of frogs!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

There are too many posts to answer everyone individually. I will try to answer what I can remember after reading the last few pages. I have been gone for 3 days, so I had a lot to catch up. LBT is my savior. I don't have as much time for it now that I have a bf, but I have given up most of my tv programs because I am addicted to LBT. If I only have a little bit of time, this is the thread I will come to. I think the people that stop posting are just busy doing other things, and don't need as much support anymore. Or Janet could be right about them gaining some weight back and not wanting to post about it. I really don't know where everyone goes. All I know is that I could never give up lbt. I have made so many friends here. Some of them I have met in real life. I like being able to answer questions if someone new has some. I remember what it was like to be new. If you're having trouble on the liquid stage, the thing that saved me was soup. I put cream of chicken soup in a blender. Also tomato soup, I would put cottage cheese in there and put it all in the blender. I ate when I was hungry and didn't worry about losing. The liquid stage is so the band can heal on your stomach properly, not for losing weight. As far as the BF goes, we met a month ago today. I really feel like we have known each other a lot longer. I am into astrology, and our charts are a perfect match. My friend has a computer program that will compare charts, and give a print out about the comparison. The print out said we are soul mates. I don't believe in soul mates, but I know that we have so much in common. I also know that we would never have gotten together or got along if I didn't have the band. He is a long distance runner. We go for a walk on this trail around a lake, every night after work. It's got very big hills. I remember the first time I tried to walk that walk and was so out of breath I thought I would die. Now I walk that trail and don't even break a sweat. It's 3 1/2 miles around the lake. We have seen each other every day since the day we met. He is very into fitness. We met from match.com. When I put that profile on there, I was sure it would just be a waste of time. I put on there that this town is too small to post a picture, and would be happy to email a picture to anyone who wanted one. He sent me a message first. I was so impressed that he never asked for a picture. That showed me that he was not shallow. We had been emailing and talking on the phone for about a month before we met in person. So that's it in a nutshell. He says he's crazy about me, and I feel the same way. My kids like him and I like his kids and his sister is really great too. It's been like a dream come true for me. I know this is a very long post, so I don't blame you if you don't read it all! The band has changed my life in so many ways, I thank God for it every day.

    Choking during sleep! Need advice!

This happens to me too. Usually it's from taking my medicine too late. I know exactly what you are talking about. I am not sure why it happens. My daughter who is a nurse, says that something is (SP?) aspirating from the esophagus into the lungs. The advice the above poster gave you is good. Try not to eat too close to bedtime. I have this happen if I take my pills too late. They don't feel stuck, but all of a sudden, I awaken from a dead sleep sorta like pbing, some pill with Water will come shooting into my mouth. My thinking is that when we lay down, if there is anything left in the pouch that hasn't gone through the band, it will come back up when we lay down. If it keeps happening, I would ask your doctor about it. I know for me, it only happens if I eat something late at night, or I don't take my pills early enough.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Didn't you read my little story on another thread? I get a spam email from some company saying if I tried their face cream, they would give me a free membership to Match.com. I love the face cream and fell in love! Will tell you more later, gotta leave for camping now!

When I was in Florida, there were a lot of bugs flying in the air. They called them lovebugs. We had to turn on our windshield wipers they were so thick. Do you have those Susan?

    Which type are you?

That was a funny movie. I really loved that character. I forgot all about the movie.
  23. Oregondaisy

    Where are you?

Cool. We will stay in touch and as it gets closer we can set the date and time. I want to be sure WasA isn't working that day. I will write the directions down. It sounds easy to find. It must be in that part of Mesa where they have all those bronze statues on every corner. I think they are cool.
  24. I was on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery. I hated it after the first week. I wanted to eat something else so badly! BUT- I am so afraid of a slip years from now, I didn't dare. I paid a lot of money for this procedure. I have lost a lot of weight. I know if I had to have my band removed because of problems, that it won't be because I wasn't able to drink liquids for four weeks. I won't be having to pay to have my band removed because of not following my doctor's instructions. Slips and erosions can still happen, but at least I would know it wasn't because of something I did. 4 weeks of liquids was a small price to pay to feel as good as I do, weighing so much less than I did without any problems what so ever.
