On some computers, I have a hard time voting. Why is that. There is nowhere to click to vote.

    Slipped Band, now what?

You know, more and more people are having complications later on down the road after having the band for awhile. I would not hesitate to get the VGS if anything went wrong with my band.

    Slider Foods oh NO

The slightest unfill can make a huge difference. It's such a fine line between having perfect restriction and being too loose or too tight. Living the Dream, let your doctor decide how much should be taken out. Jacqui don't beat yourself up like that! You are plenty active and unless you are downright hungry all the time, don't worry about being too loose. Eat what you want as long as you aren't gaining. I know you eat a healthy diet.

    Feeling Discouraged!

You just barely had surgery. Give yourself a break. The liquid diet is not for dieting. It is so the band can heal around your stomach. Your stomach can't be rumbling and digesting food right now. Try to get in as much Protein as you can as you move through the food stages and the weight loss will come when you start to get fills. For now, just rest!

    Ahem...very personal :)

Chrisann, I totally agree. Make a profile on plentyoffish.com It's a free dating site and if nothing else, you can have fun posting on their forums. There are probably lots of available men on there for you since you live in such a large area.

    Slow Loser

Suzanne, you will lose! You just barely got your band! It takes time and it takes several fills. We do lose slower as we get older. Join us on the over 50's thread!

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

It's all the exercise. Once you're used to doing it and it's not such a chore, it lets us eat more without gaining. BF and I are going through a rough patch right now. He has decided he does not like my son in law. It puts me in a difficult position.

I say that all the time! I got it from my mother. It must be a pretty old saying.

    What changes after a fill?

The thing with fills is the hole where the food goes through the band gets smaller as the band gets tighter. That is why you must eat slower and take tiny bites and chew very well. Otherwise the food will not go through the band and backs up in the esphagus. Picture an upside down funnel. The neck of the funnel is the esphagus and the band fits right where the neck of the funnel goes into the ball part. So when the band squeezes where the two meet, the hole is smaller. A lot of people do not lose well or actually gain until their band is tight enough to completely change their eating habits.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

yes. I have very bad back problems and I am sure it's because my poor spine could not support all the weight I was carrying. Yes, I am short. I am only 5'2" and I believe Janet is 5"5" It does make a difference when you aren't very tall. Your body just does not metabolize as many calories. When you go to weight watchers, they always ask your height when they give you the points or calories for the day.

    Slow Loser

That is sad that April feels she can not come back here. There are plenty of us that did not lose 2 lbs a week. I lost 22 lbs the first month from being on the liquid diet, and then I lost nothing for 4 months. I tried not to focus on the posts where people were losing like crazy and looked for the posts from people who were struggling like me. Again I will say the most important thing is not to give up. It's so easy to go back to old eating habits and eat cheetos or ice cream because they are easier to eat. I watched my calorie intake and read that it's important to varry your calories and exercise. The body really does get too used to a routine and will stop losing if we don't change things. So I would eat around 1,000 calories for a few days and go to 1500 for a day or two. I am also lucky that I only work part time, so it was easy for me to go to the gym every day. At my support group, my surgeon and nutritionist came and spoke how the band will only work with a combination of diet and exercise. Good luck to all the slow losers, and just don't give up!

It's so much fun fitting into old clothes that we thought would never fit us agian. I get mad when I remember so many clothes that were practically brand new that I sold in a garage sale. I had given up ever fitting into them again. I did save some stuff, most of which is now too big. Now that is a great feeling! Congratulations Mac! You'll be into the ones that don't quite fit soon!

    Bladder Infections.

I had that when I was around 21. I got very sick from a kidney infection but I never had the symptoms of a UTI first.

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

Yea, if I am out running around, that is when I forget to eat lunch. I will end up looking at the clock and seeing it's around 3pm, and I haven't had lunch. That messes up my whole schedule. The difference betweent the two of us Janet is that you like to cook. Dinner is a hassle for me because I don't like to cook and mess up the kitchen. I go out to dinner a lot less now that I am banded. It's nice though because I always end up with a doggie bag that will last me about 2-3 more meals.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thanks for asking! I am doing great. I gained 7 lbs in Arizona this time. Last time it was 5lbs. It's totally because of Cold Stone Ice cream . I am glad we don't have one of those places here. Plus my dad likes to go out to dinner every night. As soon as I got home and back to my own routine and back to the gym, it all disappeared. Indio is able to eat quite a bit more than I am. I still have slow metabolism and I do think that taking replacement hormones has something to do with weight loss. Everyone I know that takes estrogen gains weight. Plus I remember when everyone was young and on birth control pills, people were complaining that they gained weight. Exercise is the key for me. When I went to support group the other night, he also talked about how gaining muscle causes us to burn calories throughout the day, where as cardio you only burn calories as you are doing it. I have gained a lot of muscle from doing weight training, and I really enjoy working out. Before banding, I was still doing all the weight training and cardio, but I guess my portions were way too big because even though I did this for 3 solid years, I felt better but never lost an ounce. By the way, I am orginally from Chicago, so welcome to all my fellow Illinios new bandsters!

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

The band is supposed to be on the vagus nerve which is the nerve that tells your brain you are hungry. It is supposed to press on that nerve so that your brain thinks you are full. It does that for me. My stomach rarely growls. I guess that's why my mind doesn't constantly think "what am I going to eat? " like it used to all the time. I eat at meal times which is breakfast 8am lunch 12pm dinner 5 pm but if I forget to look at the clock, I forget to eat. That is different in the evenings around 9pm when I have that craving for something sweet.

Wow! A lot of posting to post going on. Froggi, I forgot to say sorry for your loss. Losing pets is hard no matter what kind of pet they are. I hope your sleep study goes well. I would be awake all night. I can barely sleep in my own bed. turler, congratulations on that 50 lb! That is as much as a small child. Gloucester, I hope it doesn't get t too bad where you are. I can't even imagine going through a hurricane. BBK I can vote twice today because I am using my DD's computer right now. You are all correct. My boss is stupid. She thinks because she has sat with this girl during her son't karate lessons that she would know if she was using drugs. She is a personal injury attorney. She takes workman's comp cases and car accidents. I am glad I only work part time.

    Bladder Infections.

Yea, I see the urologist tomorrow. I actually have had this problem for years. I had a long break between relationships though. The problem I have now is the antibiotic I take every time I have sex is causing yeast infections.

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

Yes, I have tried those and I like them. I had bought a box at Walmart and I think there was only 5 or 6 in the box, but then Costco had the Fiber one bars in a huge box of 30. There is no Costco in the town that I live in, but we are going out of town again. If Costco doesn't have the big box, I probably will go back to the Curves ones.
