BBk we all missed you! I don't see my MIL as my husband is deceased. BUT I do see my bf's mother regularly. She is crazy. She is not mean, but I definitely think she has some missing links in her brain.

    Givin' up the ice cream

I see the dr. on Wednesday. I am really hoping he will let me have some of my fill back. I went out to pizza with my daughter SIL and BF. I think I ate 4 or 5 pieces of pizza. It's like I have no band at all. I gained back the 3 lbs I had lost. I am being good as gold today.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Apples, can you give me some ideas on these marinades? I have never considered myself to be a very good cook. I have no clue what to marinade things in. Are these things you buy in a jar or do you make the marinade?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I am not writing this to anyone in particular, but would like to comment on the difference between head hunger and regular hunger. When I have regular hunger, my stomach growls and feels empty almost to the point where I feel nauseous. When I have head hunger, my stomach is not growling, but my head is saying "oh this or that really sounds good" or "gee what is there around here that I can eat" Both types of hunger are hard to battle. someone on another thread suggested a book you can get at amazon. It's called emotional first+Aid kit. I think I will look there and see if it gives more of a description of this book. All I know is I need help. I don't want to go back to wearing bigger pants. I know they wouldn't be the biggest size I ever wore, but right now, all the pants I have are not comfortable, and I hate that. I also need to go to the low carb section of this board, under food and nutrition. I know for a fact that when I eat low carb, I have less cravings. The problem is, I am sick of all the stuff I normally eat. I need new ideas.

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

Not sure why this thread came up in my user cp where I go to my subscribed threads. Usually, it only comes up if a new post has been added. So I am adding a new post. My band isn't helping me much right now. I feel like I have no band since I had so much of my fill removed. I need a band on my brain. I have to dig down deep and find some willpower somewhere.

I wish getting a fill was the magic answer. The things I eat that I know I shouldn't have nothing to do with how much of a fill I have. Ice cream is a biggie.I could be tighter than is humanly safe and I would still crave ice cream and be able to eat it if I gave into the cravings. The gym is no magic answer for me either. I can still go to the gym and do so well up until a certain point, then eat junk food all evening long. Sometimes I thing being revised to a sleeve is the magic answer (if I had the money) but I am told you can eat candy just fine with a sleeve too. I need to go back and look at the name of the book that was suggested to order off amazon. If it's helpful, then I need that book! It's my head that needs the help. Like I have read before, too bad it's not our brains that get banded.

Froggi, I am sure we all did something that could be considered cheating. Just remember how long you waited fo this and how much you wanted it. Maybe that will get you through until you are at the phase where you can have more things.

Susan, that could have been written by me. I can't seem to control my craving for sweets. I know in my head that if I could stay off of them for 3 days, the craving would go away. I can stay off of them for a few hours, and then that's all I think about. I am going to try what I learned in the Beck Diet solution book. I made 3/5 cards with thoughts on them . like" I need to not eat candy unless I want to buy bigger pants" or one thought per card on every single reason I want to lose weight. I post the cards all over the house and some in my purse. Then I look at them through out the day. It helped last time. I can only hope it is of some help this time. The only difference is that I thought I was at my sweet spot, until I started that puking in my sleep. Now I can't have any of my fill back until my dr. decides my esophagus has probably healed.

I am 56 and I have no grey hair. That was one of my big fears. I lost about 50% of my hair after surgery. I was so afraid it was going to come back in gray. Froggi, I never had that problem. Mine was the opposite. The first week after surgery I never went at all and that freaked me out. It's still a problem and I am always trying to find more ways to get fiber into my diet. have to work on.

    Givin' up the ice cream

I really freaked out when I got on the scale yesterday morning. I did manage to lose 3 lbs of it already. If I look at where I was at my lowest weight I am still up 13 lbs which really freaks me out. I am going to go back to what I did when I read the Beck Diet Solution. They have you make index cards and write down every reason you want to lose weight. You can put anything you want on a card. One thought per card. Then I carry the cards in my purse. One thought would be "if I eat that one piece of candy, I will only crave more and soon I will not be able to button my pants. " Or Soon I will need to buy bigger pants." I can make thoughts like that and post them all over my work area, and not keep junk in the house. This has got to stop because I can feel myself becoming more and more out of control. I am glad I have you guys and LapBAndtalk. I know you are the only ones who understand.

Are there any low bmi's who talk often?

Sooverit, I wondered all the same things. A lot of people told me I wasn't overweight enough to need surgery. I knew that I would continue to gain weight though. No matter which diet I was on, I lost all the weight and gained it all back. This was a way to lose what I needed, and hopefully be able to keep it off. It's still not as easy as I would like it to be. the band is absolutely no help with things like like cookies and candy. I do gain a few lbs back and then I freak out and worry I am going to gain it all back so I go back to good eating habits until the next social event comes along and I am tempted by goodies. I try to curb my head hunger with sf hot chocolate in the evenings, and I do eat a lot of sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles. There is also the sugar free fat free puddings. I do find if I mainly eat only protein, the cravings are not as bad.
  12. There are so many toys out there, it would be good to know which one is a good one.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yes, the unfill took care of the problems I was having. The problem I have now is that I do get full on smaller amounts of food, but not a very small amount like before the unfill. That means in about an hour, I am very hungry again . I see the dr. on Wed. and I am going to ask again if I can have at least .25 of saline. I wouldn't think that small amount would bring the problems back. As far as what it feels like when food is stuck, I wouldn't say it feels like you need to burp. I would say it feels more like you swallowed a golf ball and you can feel it in your esophagus. With the stuck feeling, come great amounts of saliva. That is the body's way to try to produce enoungh liquid to make the stuck food go down. Unfortunately, this does not work, and in fact it makes things work. I usually start spitting it out (when I had the problem that is) rather than swallow it. If you swallow it, you have gobs of thick mucas on top of the stuck food and nothing will move until it comes up.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I am glad this holiday and all it's food are over with. I hope nobody feels the need to bring me any Christmas goodies. I don't want to start the new year with a weight gain but it's going to take a lot of willpower to say no to all the stuff people keep trying to get me to eat.

I ate too many brownies. Good thing they are going home with my daughter and SIL.
  17. Most of us wish we had gotten the band sooner. I am not sure about doctors in your area, but you might want to put another post in another spot on the board where it will get more views. You can try the forum marked doctors and hospitals. Also, if you click on USA, it gets divided state by state.

    New to site

You sound just like me. I had been going to the gym every day for about 3 years and exercised my brains out and did nothing but gain more weight. The band was the answer for me. I hope some more people can recommend a dr. for you. I am on the west coast, so I don't know anything about doctors in your area. You might want to put a post up somewhere else on the board, where it will get more views.
  19. I lost 22 lbs on the post op diet but after that it was slow going. Some people lose very quickly, and others it's slower, but it's heading in the right direction. I didn't have much pain at all. Somebody told me that is because I was exercising so much before surgery. There are some people that do have some pain the first few days after surgery, but most people don't complain about a lot of pain. It took me 16 months to get to goal.

    Banded Aug 08

Welcome to Lap Band talk. I didn't lose very quickly either. I lost 22 lbs on the post op diet and then nothing for 4 months. I think our bodies need to get used to our new weight before it decides to give up a few more lbs. Try not to get discouraged. It will come off. Just make sure you chew your food until it's liquid in your mouth. Take itty bitty bites and wait before you take another bite to see how it's going down. I wouldn't get another fill until food stops getting stuck.

    Newbie

Welcome to Lap band talk. You have come to the right place. This is the best site for support and encouragement. There are very few of us that regret our decision. Most of us wish we had done it sooner. I am not sure if that will ease your mind, but in any case, don't be shy and post away!

    Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!

I wonder why your age shows up as 48 over next to your post. Mine automatically changed to 56 on my birthday. Do you know how long you'll have to do a liquid diet after your surgery?

    Givin' up the ice cream

Very well said Ready Steady. Food does not seem to be my problem. I still eat really small portions but seem to have no willpower what so ever when it comes to sweets being in front of me. I did when I first got the band. Today, one of our clients bought a box of chocolates for each of the girls in the office. I ate about 6 of them and gave my box to a co-worker. She put them in the lunch room on the counter where I could still see them. I put a sticky note on it that said "Denise is not allowed chocolate because she gained 7, count them 7 lbs and that is not good! with a sad face on it. I hope they are gone next week when I get back to the office. Some of the girls will be working friday.
