Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to weigh myself every day. My surgeon's nurse who leads our support group always says "don't let 5 lbs get away from you" I'ts so true for me. I am completely opposite from Janet. If I let myelf think I am not on a diet, I decide I can have this or that, because after all, I am not on a diet!. Before I know it, in a matter of 2 days I gain 5 lbs. Weekends are really hard. It's hard to be in social situations where everyone is eating junk that I love. I tell myself I will only have a taste or a bite, and then I am out of control. If I go somewhere with my mind made up that I am on a diet, I seem to have more control of the situation. There has been junk food at work all week, and I have looked at it and said "no, it's not on your diet." I have looked at the plate of chocolates and cookies and been able to NOT take one taste because it's not allowed in my diet. -
You're lucky. If I eat junk but cut back on meals, I still gain weight. sugar/carbs make me gain weight even if I didn't eat anything else all day. It sucks. I did have some popcorn the other day then had a protein dirnk for dinner and I felt really lucky that I didn't gain.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One of the reasons is because if you drink with your meals, the additional liquid added together with food, can stretch the pouch. The other reason is because the drinks can flush the food out of the pouch and you will get hungry fast. I have never been told I can't drink before meals. I asked my surgeon specifically about this, and he said I can drink right up until I take my first bite. Welcome to all of our new bandsters! There is nothing better than wearing new clothes and having more self esteem from finally being able to lose weight! -
When we say food gets stuck and it causes us to throw up, that is because it can't get passed the band and it's stuck in the esophagus. It's not really because the food causes us to gag. We are told to chew the food until it's liquid. I don't see a problem with what you are talking about as it is liquid to begin with.

I don't remember who it was that asked me how to know if you need a defill. Pbing and sliming constantly is not normal. We are supposed to eat very tiny eraser sized bites, chew it until it's mushie liquid, wait to see if it goes down before trying another bite. If it feels like it's getting stuck or feeling like it's going to come back up, that is not normal. It is normal for this to happen occasionally but not a few times a week. If it happens frequently, have some fill taken out. The smallest amount of a defill can make all the difference in the world. If it happens frequently only with certain foods, avoid that food. If you have anything coming up in the middle of the night, see your doctor. That is very important and no matter how fine things are in the day time, it's a sign of a problem. People tend to think being really tight is the road to weight loss, but it's not. We want to be tight enough so that we can eat small portions without our stomach growling for at least 3 hours. Head hunger is another story. We need to learn the difference to my "stomach is growling" and Boy I sure wish I had something to eat. I hope this helps someone! -
I haven't bought the rabbit.

In my opinion, people should not get fills if they are able to control their hunger. Being even slightly too tight is dangerous to the stomach and esophagus. The way I look at it is, put a rubber band around your finger and leave it there for a week. It would cause problems. The stomach is an important part of our body and having something too tight around it can cause major problems. I know I keep repeating myself, but I was too tight and had no idea I was. I never pbed or slimed and could eat anything I wanted to eat, in the daytime. I could eat bread, pizza, fruit with skins, and any and all the foods people say give them trouble. Yet, I saw for myself the barium sitting in my esophagus for 15 min and not going through the band until they took out some saline. I have no clue how long my food was sitting in there, or how long I was too tight before I started this throwing up in my sleep. -
No, that really should have nothing to do with it. Marriage is based on trust. there are people who say they have "an open marriage" I just don't get that. When you get married, you take vows to be faithful. If someone plans on not being faithful, why get married?

DeLarla's Dating Service for Single Bandsters
Oregondaisy replied to DeLarla's topic in Singles Forum
I think all of you should put profiles on WWW.plentyoffish.com It's completely free. You have more chance of finding someone in your area from an online dating site, than on here. I found my wonderful bf on match.com but I had profiles on plentyoffish and met a lot of nice people from there, and again I say it's free. What could be better! -

Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would go and see the dr. and possibly have some taken out. I hadn't had a fill for a year and started having trouble. I had to have an esophagram and it showed the barium just sitting in my esophagus for 15 min and not moving down into my stomach. It all sat above the band. That is dangerous. I have no idea why, when I thought I was at my sweet spot, I had to have a defill. All I know is the dr. and the radiologist both told me I could have damaged my esophagus and that could have led to having the band removed. -
Those are very wise words. It's important to remember this is just an infatuation. It's easy to daydream about the "what ifs" The only way to make sure this goes know further, is to remove the temptation from your life. Tell him you are flattered by the attention, but you love your husband and you are not the kind of woman who would cheat on her husband. Then cut off all contact!
-
You say you don't want to jeopardize what you have with your husband. Can you put yourself in his shoes and try to imagine how he would feel if he found out you slept with this man? I am not judging you either. I would imagine this happens a lot. They even had a show on Oprah about women doing things they regretted after losing a lot of weight with WLS. But you really have to think about this and your children (if you have children) and your husband. How would you feel if the situation was reversed? Suppose he came to you and said he loved you but this old flame popped up and he couldn't help himself so he slept with her. You have a lot of thinking to do.

Man! Another person finding that spot. I wish I was that lucky! -
Well my toys came and I had ordered 2 different ones and they sent me two the same. I called and they said the other one I ordered was no longer going to be made, and told me to pick out something else. Are all of you telling me to go ahead and pick the rabbit?

Congratulations Liza for hitting Onederland. It's such a good feeling to see a number on the scale that we haven't seen in a long time. Angel you have lost 60 lbs. That's a lot. You were only banded in June, so that's really good. It does come of faster for the youngins, but hey! as long as we are heading in the right direction, that's the best thing. Naffie, there is a thread on here called how to choose a Mexican surgeon. I would look for that thread. You can do a search to the right at the top, put in Mexican surgeons and see what you come up with. Fills do not hurt. Mine has never hurt. I have heard of some people getting poked a few times because their port was having a hard time being accessed. Most people say it's over in 2 seconds . Joann you're going to do so great! You're very motivated and that's what it takes. Flowers, don't feel bad. Day after Thanksgiving, I had no trouble what so ever without restriction shoveling 5 pieces of pizza in. I hadn't eaten like that in nearly 2 years. I hope this new fill is going to be okay and I don't have to have any removed. I did not like that out of control feeling. -

Hi all, I am just home on my lunch hour so I will post to everyone later. I just wanted to share that I was able to get a fill today. I am so excited. I was at 3.0 in a 4cc band when I was having the trouble of throwing up in my sleep. He took out 1 cc for a month but put 1/2 cc back in today. I really hope that problem does not come back. Having only 2ccs in there felt like I had no band at all. I think I will be able to take of the almost 10 lbs I gained. I have high hopes anyway, seeing all the holiday cheer being spread around this month. -

Are there any low bmi's who talk often?
Oregondaisy replied to annestoy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If I had to go to Mexico, I would only go to dr. Alberto Aceves. He is the very best Mexican surgeon in my opinion and one of the only ones that does surgery in a hospital. The rest do it in a clinic and you recover in a hotel. They will pick you up at the airport in San Diego. I was a self pay but Dr. Tersigni keeps his prices lower so that he can save people from a flight after surgery. That is not fair Lynn that you are 5'2" and in a size 8 jeans. I am 5'2" and I am in a size 12 and I weigh less than you do. I am jealous, even though I haven't been in a size 12 since my daughter was born 27 years ago. -

Flowers I am glad you're losing again. That is the way I always lost. I would plateau and then suddenly, without doing anything differently, I would drop 5 lbs in a week then plateau again. As for the burping, I think it just comes with the band. My daughter always getting mad at me cause I burp so much. I always ask her where she would like me to put the air that pops out of my mouth. I am not sure what to do about it. I burp and I have gas coming out the other end, and people at support group are always complaining about these 2 things. -
I hate it when people post just to post.....

Susan, I am glad to see you're feeling more confident. It's such a shame that this is a life long battle for all of us. It would be so wonderful if the band could do something for head hunger and cravings. I have been guzzling water like crazy thinking if I slosh around enough, I won't think about food. Fanny those snakes are nasty looking. I can't even believe you were holding them. -

Joan, The 5 day pouch test is very good. It's hard to go back to the liquid stage though. I have done very well today drinking lots and lots of Water. I think if I can just make it through 3 days of no carbs, I can get the cravings out of my system. that's the problem with those carbs. They sneak back in, and then I crave them all the time. I need to get it into my brain that one bad choice leads to many many more. -

Byrdie, there will come a time if you get more fill that drinking even a sip of Water will not help and can in fact make it worse. There have been many times when I could not get to a rest room fast enough and pbed into a cup, a plant, or whatever is closest and seems the least obvious. Apples, thanks for the marinade recipes! They sound yummy. I wonder what the Sprite does? Do you know? Is it the carbonation that tenderizes meat?
