quick question.. banded today
Oregondaisy replied to britlover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you won't necessarily feel full. You may not have your stomach growling for a few days though. When it does start, you need to drink protein drinks often. Drinking the protein will help with the hunger. You do need water too though. I don't think you can sip too much, but you don't want to drink fast or a lot at one time. -
So what's with all the gas
Oregondaisy replied to BgB9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's horrible isn't it? I haven't tried beano yet because the pharmacist told me to take Gas X every morning. That stuff does nothing. I think splenda causes gas. I notice that if I don't eat anything sugar free, I don't have as much gas. It's really embarrassing and I am really tired of it! -
Band put in too high?
Oregondaisy replied to snorkelrob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was waking up coughing and puking in my sleep as well. I was too tight and didn't even know it. I had an esophagram and the barium would not go down through my band from my esophagus for over 15 min. It made me wonder where all the food was going in the day time when it never felt stuck. I have not heard of the band being too high, but I know that my insurance would definitely not pay for anything band related no matter what the cause. My esophagram was about $400 because it had to be done at the hospital, and they removed most of my fill as well. Anytime anyone is waking up in the night with problems, get to the dr because this is dangerous to the esophagus. -
The only symptoms were that she had no restriction, but if she got a fill, she had reflux. that is the case with a lot of people.

Now that's a horrible thought! That friend I was talking about went to Dr. Aceves, so I know she went to a good surgeon too. She said the gal she met had no clue that she would not be able to get a revision surgery, or that the band had done anything to her stomach. How sad.
-
Gee, I never had that problem. I have always had a big belly though, but unfortunately, it's not from swelling. It's where I carry my weight. Even at 110 lbs, I never had a flat stomach.
-
A friend of mine went to MX to get the sleeve. She met a gal at the hospital that had the band and wanted it removed and a revision to a sleeve because she was not losing weight. When the surgeon went in to remove the band, he said there was no way he could do a sleeve, as the band had done damage to her stomach that was not repairable. She ended up with no band, and no revision surgery.

That is a very good idea. Your husband would be hurt if he knew everything, but it would be good if you told him you need him more now, that you feel emotional and need his support.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The band is a work in progress! It's funny how there is no food that gives me trouble, and I have no trouble eating in the morning, like I hear other bandsters say. I didn't even have any trouble with any particular foods, like bread, even when I was puking in my sleep. I really wish sometimes that I was not able to eat anything I want. It's freezing here too. It's very unusual for it to be this cold on the Oregon coast. It's in the 20's. Oh, by the way, I did a name change. Denise -
You know, she may be one of those people that WLS wouldn't even work for. There are plenty of people who have it done and lose weight but gain it all back. Even with the band, there are so may slider foods that she would lose weight during the post op diet and put it all back on. Does anyone know how that one singer is doing whose name is escaping me at the moment? She had her gastric bypass on the internet. Last I heard, she was really struggling to keep her weight off.

What happens when you reach your goal weight?
Oregondaisy replied to FatManInALittleCoat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't had any fill taken out and because I will always be a food addict, the issue of gaining and losing is still a work in progress. I got to goal, then decided I could include ice cream as a regular treat and of course I gained a few lbs back. The band makes it a heck of a lot easier though, because instead of gaining more and more, I can get myself back on track and lose the few lbs again, until I think I "deserve" some treat that I know I don't need. I would also add that I normally go to the gym 6 days a week. Exercise is a part of my life that I really enjoy now. It improves my mood dramatically. -
Jacqui, normally I don't disagree with you. You are usually right on with everything you have to say. I have heard of this though. I have heard of people who have been banded and for one reason or another, want to have the band removed and have a different WLS. They are usually people who can't tolerate fills due to esphogeal spasms. But when they go in to remove the band, there are complications to the point that they can't have a different surgery. I will have to e mail a friend of mine for more details. She is an Operating room nurse. She is the one who told me about this.

Holiday Goodies and the Band???
Oregondaisy replied to Florida Pete's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry but sausage and cheese is usually not on the mushy list. I had my surgery during the holidays a couple of years ago, so I can relate. A year from now, you will have lost a bunch of weight, and a little bit of sausage and cheese will be no big deal. I am personally sick of all the junk food everywhere. I know it's a tradition, but even all the people who didn't have WLS don't need fudge, candy, Cookies, etc constantly everywhere they go. I have a real sweet tooth and it's very hard for me to look the other way at work when I have to go into the room where we make our copies and look at the counter filled with junk. -
Whats so great about Lapband over conventional dieting/excersize??
Oregondaisy replied to FatManInALittleCoat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is one thing I really love. It amazes me when I look at the clock and realize I just skipped lunch. -
I sure did! I decided this town is just to small to have my name on here. Sometimes I post some stuff that is too personal. It's my own fault but maybe this way the locals will have to wonder who it is?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't be disappointed with yourself! Eating and living with the band is definitely a learning experience. I would say though, if you are having trouble most days, have the tiniest amount of a defill. Once you pb in the mornings, you can have swelling which will cause problems the rest of the day. If mornings are your problems, try a protein drink until you are more open. If you can't eat meat later in the day, I would say you're too tight. -
Going through or considering divorce?
Oregondaisy replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in The Gals' Room
They say that going through a divorce is just like going through loss through death. It's still the death of a marriage. -
Kirstie or Oprah? I don't know why Oprah doesn't just get WLS. I can't believe anyone would choose to yo yo diet as long as she has and not look for an alternative.

Where have you been, WasA? I haven't seen any posts of yours on LBT is a long while. Are you just too busy working your butt off? I am getting a new phone service for my land line. I will have free long distance. I am really happy about that. My dad is talking about moving back into the house if it doesn't sell soon. I will be ready to kill him if he does that.

Whats so great about Lapband over conventional dieting/excersize??
Oregondaisy replied to FatManInALittleCoat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know so many people who had gastric bypass and have gained most of their weight back. People who have gastric bypass don't have to do anything to lose weight. They can sit on the couch and lose 10 lbs a week, in the beginning. Keeping it off is another story. They need to pemenently change their eating habits to keep it off. A lot of them have also stretched out their pouch so they can eat way more than they could right after surgery. In the beginning, sugar makes them sick. It dumps too much sugar into the blood stream too fast. But for a lot of people, that goes away. There are a lot of gastric bypass patients who are now getting a band too. -

Oregondaisy replied to FatManInALittleCoat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I can tell you is I dieted and exercised for 3 years before I got the band and never lost an ounce. I went to the gym 6 days a week during that 3 years. I think the difference is with the band, you are forced to eat small portions and can't go back for seconds if you feel like cheating on your diet. -
Recommendatons please!
Oregondaisy replied to marialcole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I am not typical. I never had any pain. I was out walking 3 dogs the next day. I drove the next day. I had surgery on a friday and went back to work on monday because I felt like I never had surgery. People have told me this is because I was used to exercise and had been doing work on my abs for several years before surgery. I don't know that for sure. All I know is, this surgery was a piece of cake for me. I was on liquids for 4 weeks.I drank Slim fast low carb and Atkins Protein Drinks. I also had whatever Soup I wanted if I put it into a blender and blended it until it was pure liquid without any chunks. I hope I answered your questions! -
Old Band out -- New Realize Band In
Oregondaisy replied to alicat3924's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for clearing that up Mac. I have several friends that have the realize band. It's good information. -
Maybe the Nioxen does work. That is one thing I didn't try. I am very fussy about my shampoo and I didn't know if it would dry my hair out. I lost my hair from 4-12 months. Now that I am coming up on 2 years, I have hair growing in around my face that is really annoying. When I put my hair in a pony tail, I have all these short hairs that won't fit in that look like I have side burns. I ate tons of Protein took heavy duty Vitamins, and Biotin and nothing worked other than time.

What were you allowed to eat after 1 week post op??
Oregondaisy replied to Locomotive Engineer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was only on clear liquid for 24 hours. After that, it was liquid drinks or soup that had no chunks in it. I could have soup as long as I put it in a blender and blended it up well so it was liquid. I could also have egg drop soup.
