Help! Just got it on, cant take meds, & am sliming
Oregondaisy replied to itschoice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hopefully the swelling will go down and things will get easier. If you aren't able to sleep and the sliming continues, you may need the er. I had a patch behind my ear that helped with nausea. -
When I was in the hospital for 5 weeks on bed rest, my friend brought me one of those cross stitch things. It had nothing printed on it and you have to stitch according to counting the little blocks on the fabric. I never finished it, but it was very time consuming and took my mind off how badly I hated being in there. I was not allowed out of bed for any reason. They brought me so much food I had to sneak into the bathroom and flush some of it down the toilet. I would no sooner finish Breakfast, and they would be bringing me a big sandwich. That was way before banding though. My son was very healthy when I had my C section as soon as his lungs were developed, so it paid off, as miserable as it was. We are all thinking of you!

Should I get the slight unfill?
Oregondaisy replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Jacqui. Being too tight only leads to problems. Having an itty bitty unfill makes all the difference in the world. People actually lose better when they eat better, even though it seems like we would lose better when we can hardly eat at all. -
Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Stomach growling hunger is nothing compared to head hunger. You can feed stomach growling hunger with good Protein like chicken and get rid of it. It's those nasty cravings in the evenings that get to me. come 7-8 pm, I am not physically hungry, but my brain starts with the "what can I eat?" If I eat a sf pudding, then I want something else right after. Sometimes I think it's better not to eat anything in the evenings, because once I start, I want to eat all evening long. Head hunger is the pits. -
It's the carbs of any sense. Once they are in your system, all they do is make us crave more carbs. Carbs are evil. It doesn't even matter if it rice or noodles, they make us crave sugar.

Brandy you're not far from me at all. I go to Eugene a lot because shopping on the coast really stinks. I just made plane reservations and I am flying out of Eugene to go to Phoenix. That Alligiant air has some great rates. Why are there so many poo threads. Some people can't poo and everyone wants to talk about their bathroom habits once banded. I guess at least we are better than that DS thread Bubble posted about where they talk about how much they stink. -

Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They call that first bite syndrome. I have no idea why that happens. The only thing you can do is but whatever you're eating into pencil eraser sized bites and chew it up until it's liquid in your mouth. I used to kind of make a game out of it. How much more can I possibly chew this? Make sure you wait to see how it's sitting before taking the next bite. -
A VERY strange (possibly offensive) question. ***read at your own risk...***

Brandy, I am sorry if you told me this at some point in the past. My only excuse is that I am old with a bad memory. Where are you in Oregon? We have been having summer like weather. It's supposed to last another week. I knew there was a good reason I moved away from Chicago. LJM, congratulations on your date! We will all be waiting in anticipation on that day, if you don't go into labor sooner. -

Throwing Up every Night..Please Help
Oregondaisy replied to Maggie63's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Anyone who throws up at night and aspirates needs to take this very seriously. It is definitely not normal. People are afraid to have some fill taken out, but the tiniest amount will make a huge difference. You can damage your esophagus and possibly lose your band down the road. -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The reason we say it's only a tool is because head hunger can take over and be mistaken for real stomach growling hunger. Unfortunately, the things we tend to crave like cookies, chips, ice cream, are the easiest to eat. The band is meant to work with hard protein like chicken. We are told to eat protein first, then veggies and some fruit. Foods like chicken need to be chewed until liquid. If you eat this way, you should not have stomach growling hunger for at least 3 hours. -
I went to they gym and exercised my brains out for 3 years and never lost an ounce. I thought I was dieting, but my portions must have been too big. I was never successful without the band. If that were true, all the people on LBT would not have gotten the band. Those that could lose the weight, gained it back plus more. I don't get why Policeman does not go out of town. My dr. is charging 10,000 for the band now. Even with plane fare, it would be way less. His complication rate is the lowest in the entire Pacific Northwest. He is a center of excellence, which is almost unheard of for a town this small. They went over his records and stats with a fine tooth comb. There are probably a lot of great surgeons closer, who are doing this for a much better price that what you have been quoted. You can find someone cheaper. The recovery rate is going to be the same no matter where you go. It just depends on your body. It's getting fills that you need to figure out if you go out of town. Why finance a huge amount if you can get the surgery for a good price by another excellent surgeon?

Yes, I started the exercise way before I got the band. I started going to the gym regularly trying to lose weight. I never lost an ounce in the 3 years I was going before banded. So, exercise was just a part of my routine. I was a slow loser. I lost 22 lbs on the post op diet then did not lose anything for 4 months. I always plateaued, for about 3-4 weeks, then would suddenly drop 5 lbs. I never lost the 2 lbs per week like people say.

That's what I was talking about when I said it's what they call a soft stop. If you don't stop when you get a hicup, it's going to be a problem. Mary said her hicups are not related to eating though, so it may not be band related. Some people just get them and I am not sure why.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Oregondaisy replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is definitely not normal to throw up on a regular basis and it's not good for the stomach/band. Pasta is a common food that people do have trouble with though. The reason that cookies go down easier is that for some reason, crunchy foods go through the band easier. If you're eating tiny bites and chewing it up until it's liquid in your mouth, and still throwing up, you should consider having a slight unfill. When we say tiny bites, we mean pencil eraser size. -
Are you cutting things up into very tiny eraser sized bites? If you do that and chew until it's liquid in your mouth, and it still comes back up, you need to have a slight defill.

I don't have any trouble getting the Citrical Petites down. I would think if you used a pill splitter, it would make it even easier. It really depends on how tight your fill is as to how hard it is to take all the vitamins and supplements. I take any meds vitamins or supplements with warm water. Warm opens the band. I just take them slowly with a lot of water. -
Throwing Up every Night..Please Help
Oregondaisy replied to Maggie63's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, having a little bit of my fill removed took care of the problem. I was able to have part of the fill put back in, and I have not had the problem since. -
My doctor says he can tell by the pressure against the needle how much to add or take out. He waits a long time for the saline that is in there to come out to make sure of what I already have. Sometimes, it seems like it's not all in there, but eventually, more trickles back out. It would seem if you explained to your doctor that .50 or 1 cc isn't working for you, that you need something in between, he should listen to you.

Welcome Janice! If you start exercising, you probably will be like Janet and me. I used to hate it too, but I like it now and it's just part of my routine. It really will help get the weight loss going. do you have a friend that you can go for walks with? I have been eating the Kashi cereals for a long time. They are high in fiber and protein for a cereal. I like the Kashi Crunch better than the rest. I am going to try the special K. The only problem is when I eat these cereals, they give me so much gas. It's embarrassing. I haven't been eating them lately, because I am trying to go as carb free as possible , for now. Sometimes I will have a little bit before I go to the gym, because I feel better and more energetic eating carbs before a hard work out. I am so sorry for all of you that are losing your pets. My dog is 12 1/2 and she is my first dog. I can't even imagine how painful it will be when the time comes :cursing: -
Throwing Up every Night..Please Help
Oregondaisy replied to Maggie63's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not a medical professional, so I don't know if a barium swallow it the same thing as an esophagram. It probably is. I drank the barium, and it showed on the screen that it was not going down, just sitting in my esophagus. That explained why even if I hadn't eaten since 5-6 pm, I would throw up in my sleep. The food was sitting in my esophagus and not moving down .So when I laid down, it came back up. That is why I had to have part of my fill removed. I must add that in the daytime, nothing felt stuck and I never threw up. -
No, they have not. I don't know why they get them and can't get rid of them. I do get a hic ups when I am eating and I am getting full. They call this a soft stop. If you're not getting them while you're eating or when you're getting full, it may not be band related. I would try calling either your surgeon or your regular doctor.

I really don't see why you can't go out of town. I had my surgery on a friday and went back to work on monday. I know you're in a different line of work, but recovery is going to be the same, no matter where you have it.
