    Let's Talk Movie Review

My bf and I really have a hard time picking movies to rent. He likes the guy movies of course, (action type) and sci fi. I hate either of those type of movies. I like comedies and dramas. We both liked Grand Torino. Those are the types of movies we can watch together. I saw Slum Dog and thought it was a good movie. I saw it because I figured it would win the award. I didn't think it was as good as "the Best Movie of the Year" Nobody has mentioned Changling. That was a good movie. I am lucky that it's really cheap to go to the movies here, so I go often. It would be nice to find more that I could see with the bf, but mostly I go with my other friends. I hope this thread keeps going so I can write down some ideas of movies to rent. I am always walking around Blockbuster in a daze, not knowing what to get. I want to rent Crash, because bf has never seen it, but it's always out.
  3. It's hard for those of us to even find the newbies sometimes. It's not that people who have been banded awhile are snobbish, it's just that living with the band has become a way of life. We don't have the questions so we don't go board hopping hoping to find the answers. Sometimes when I have the time, I will click on new posts and try to answer people's questions. Since I am on a computer all day at work, I just don't feel like being on here as much as I did when the band was new and I needed to read as much as I could to learn about how to live with the band. I am on the 50's thread all the time, because that's where I started. I was over 50 when I got banded and I wondered if weight loss would be the same as it is for younger people. I usually check out the girl's room, because there can be some interesting conversations in there. Sometimes we just get sick of only talking about the band.
  4. My trainer told me a long time ago that 10 almonds is 100 calories, so I always count them out. I could eat the whole bag easily, but I count them out like a good girl.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

It really depends on what you eat. If you're eating hard protein, you can stay full longer. Anything that is mushy is going to go right through the band into the bottom of the stomach and you won't feel full as long. When I was too tight, I didn't even know it. I never had any problems in the daytime. I could eat any food including fruit with skins. It was just that throwing up in my sleep that caused me to be tested and found out I was too tight. I was surprised because I never got food stuck or pbed in the day time. Now I am going to get another fill on Monday and I am really afraid it's going to come back. Right now though, I feel like I have no band at all. We are going to try to get a fill that is not as much as I had when I had that problem. I hope that little bit takes care of my hunger and wanting to eat all the time.

    The "C" word: Constipation

yea, I do use the Miralax too, but not every day. It's really a laxative, and I would rather get my system going from getting enough fiber in my diet but it's just not happening.

    Low Carb Banders Unite

I am not really sure how many carbs this kind has. It's not breaded. It's chicken cooked in the sauce, but as with most sauces, I wipe as much of the sauce off as I can. BBQ sauce can have a lot of carbs too.

Georgia, it sounds like you and I eat the identical foods. One of the grocery stores here has Chinese food at the deli and I will often get teriaki (sp?)chicken

    Clothes Sharing

I've bought a lot of stuff at Goodwill. I've found some things in there that were brand new. Plus the clearance sales are great.

    Pills and supplements post op

Yes, I am getting confused because some people posting in here are talking about restriction like it's a band or something. Don't you have immediate restriction with the sleeve?
  11. The person that started this thread said she puts seeds and nuts in her foods to add protein. I will have to look for sprouted flax. I am not even sure where to get that. Does it come from a health food store?

    Clothes Sharing

We always take our clothes to our support group and share our clothes that way. Everyone brings their stuff in. Do you go to a support group through your doctor's office?

    The "C" word: Constipation

I wish that benefiber didn't give me so much gas. It's embarrassing. There has to be a fine line as to how much to put into a drink so it doesn't give me gas. So far, a teaspoon full makes me start tooting fairly quickly:confused::thumbup:

Susan, are you trying to figure out a way you can have the band removed and get a sleeve. I am going to do that as soon as I can figure out where the money is going to come from. Someone told me about 0% loan for one year, but I am afraid I wouldn't be able to get it paid back in a year. Next year I will have my car paid off, and that's a big chunk of money going out every month. I hate to wait a year though. Around the same time, I can pull money out of my IRA although at the rate it's dropping, there might not be any left!
  15. I do put ground flax in either yogurt or my high fiber Cereal. Benefiber gives me gas. What kinds of seeds and nuts are you talking about? I already use low fat cheese.
  16. Do any of you have trouble with constipation eating high protein ? I haven't read all the pages, but this is something I struggle with all the time. I try to figure some fiber into my diet but it doesn't seem to help.

    The "C" word: Constipation

Yes, I have started taking the miralax more regularly and it is a big help.

    Lap band erosion

I really would like to come across someone who has had their band for over 10 years and find out if they are experiencing any problems. Everyone I know who has been banded more than 3years has all sorts of problems. The band can damage the stomach and the esophagus.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I have about another week before I get in for my fill. I really want one because I am tired of having to watch every single bite so carefully, but I am really afraid I will go back to throwing up in my sleep.

Are there any sleeve un-success stories?

Has the original question been answered? Are there people who have the sleeve who aren't able to make it to goal?

    Home from Surgery my experience

How soon do you feel you would be able to go back to work if you had a desk job? Did they remove your band at the same time?

    Pills and supplements post op

I have some capsules that I have to take for a bladder disease. Will I not be able to take those immediately after surgery?

Susan, I am sorry your band is giving you so much trouble. It scares me that the band is so unpredictable for some people. Kat, I am so glad they found out what was wrong. I will keep praying for a full recovery. I am so sorry for all the stress and worry you must have been going through.
  24. Oregondaisy

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Katy , I hope so much that you are able to keep the weight off if he can't do another band. I would never get another band myself, after the problems you have had. It's obvious that the band is not right for some people. Unfortunately, you are not the first person who I have heard of who have had these kinds of problems. The band can be dangerous for some folks.

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

I am not worried about insurance approval. I am worried that the Dr. will say my band is functioning for now. I can't afford to take off work, get down there and not get the revision. I will self pay, and it would be a drag to sell stocks at a loss and have it be for nothing if he says I don't need a revision. I hate my band too. I have no restriction, but I am worried if I get the fill, I'll probably be puking in my sleep again.
