  1. 12,500 for a band to sleeve revision. Frankly, I would not trust anyone else. He is doing revision surgeries like crazy and you need someone who has done a lot of sleeves. It's not one of those surgeries where it would be okay to have a surgeon who does not have a lot of experience.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Flowers, if you are older than you were when you lose that weight before, that plays a big part in it. Every year we get older, our metabolism slows down a bit. Just keep doing what you're doing and it will come off again. That's the way I lost weight. I would go on long plateaus and then for no apparent reason, the scale would suddenly move again. I didn't do anything differently, I think it was just time. People get in that mind frame "I am not losing anyway, so I may as well eat this or that" That is the worse thing we can do. If you're eating right and walking fast enough to break out into a sweat, the scale will move again.

    Hello and thank you

Maintenance is a work in progress because with the band, I can eat anything I want. I have to control my own portions. There are a lot of people who have trouble with certain food, I don't. I can't get another fill because I was throwing up in my sleep, which meant I needed to have fill removed. Ever since then, I have been struggling daily not to gain weight back. I think the sleeve will be a better option for me. I will not be able to eat the size of portion I can eat now. I have to force myself to stop now. I really have no restriction.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Flowers, I went on a four month stall and I was doing everything right. Sometimes our body just needs to get used to the new weight before it decided to let go of anymore. My surgeon just talked about this at support group. The body has a set point, and it will do everything in it's power to stay at that set point. Hope you get the fill you want, but I am betting you will drop again, all of a sudden for no particular reason, other than it's time for your body to decide to let go of some more lbs again.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I am not exactly sure what hippa stands for. I work for an attorney, so all I know it is that they have to sign the form saying we have the right to get records, etc on their behalf because of confidentiality. It just means that nobody is allowed to give out any information to anyone unless you sign a form saying it's okay for them to give it out.
  6. I am having my revision surgery done in Mexico by Dr. Alberto Aceves. He did my friend's sleeve surgery and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him and the hospital that he works out of. I also have another friend who has gotten to know him quite well and I really trust her judgment. He really has one of the best and most experience with band to sleeve revision surgeries.
  7. Yes, I had that problem and it is horrible. I would wake up from a sound sleep throwing up in my sleep. I had an esophagram and it showed that the barium was not going through the band, but just sitting in my esophagus. It sat there for over 15 min. until the ex ray tech called my surgeon and he said to remove most of my fill. As soon as he did, the barium went right down. It made me wonder how long the food was sitting in there and not going down. I decided not to fool around with the band anymore and I am getting a revision surgery to a sleeve. I am sorry about your husband. I am a widow as well. That is very scary about the Barretts esophagus. That is why I decided to get rid of the band and get the sleeve. There are just too many complications coming up these days with banded people.

eating and eating, due to not enough water

I am not sure what you're asking. My dr. stresses the importance of drinking 64 oz of Water per day. I notice if I don't, my constipation problem gets worse. I have had that problem ever since band surgery, as many other people have complained they have also.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Susan, that is a great idea. Do you have her full name? Do you think they would be able to tell you anything? They all have that confidentiality issue. Maybe over there they have never heard of Hippa.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

You are all too funny:tongue2::tt1::thumbup: I was told I was going to lose too much weight on the post op sleeve diet so I have been on the ice cream diet the past few days. don't even want to get on that scale.

    help any ideas.......

I know. It's freakin scary. Do you know which tests they need to get to diagnose what is going on? Since they are only going to be able to see a general practitioner not a band doctor, they at least need to get the correct testing.

    Need some advice !

Yes, people have reported that their bands tighten up when they are under stress. PB is just a nice term for vomiting. It stands for productive burp. You burp and food comes up with it. I have had that happen. More often, food gets stuck and you start the sliming. That is when the body starts producing what it thinks will make the food go through the band. Unfortunately, it does not work. It just globs up in there with the stuck food. Eventually, whatever is stuck will come up. I have actually had this go on for hours. You need to make sure you're taking tiny itty bitty bites. We are talking the size of a pencil eraser. Then chew it up until there is nothing left to chew. The band is very fickle. It's true that a certain food may work fine one day, the next it gives you trouble. That is why it's important to chew it up until it's liquid in your mouth. Let me know if you have any other questions!

What is with the port pain though? It's really scary that people can get banded and have no access to doctors that know nothing about complications. Makes me really glad I made my decision.

    help any ideas.......

I am really sorry that you have no band surgeon close to you. I am telling you this is not normal and you need somebody experienced with bands. I would get your band unfilled in the mean time. With the kind of pain you're having, it sounds like a slip to me.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Well that is great news!! I hope somebody from the Aussie thread can tell us if Katy is okay. I know she won't be able to post for awhile, but if somebody was able to post that she is in the hospital recovering, I would feel a lot better. Her surgeon warned her that this surgery to remove her band was dangerous and that has me really worried:crying:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I love Dr. Davis' tv show. Does anyone know if it's back on? Big Medicine was such a great show and you can tell that Dr. Garth and his dad are great doctors. Does anyone know if anyone else posts on this board that knows Katy? How will we hear from her if something happens, God Forbid!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I was throwing up in my sleep and my dr. made me get unfilled. I am really tired of trying to get restriction and worrying about fills and unfills. I just decided to get the sleeve and I will never have to worry about fills ever again. I think this will be a better solution for me long term.

    Lots Of Questions

Honestly, everyone is different. If you exercise, you can lose weight faster. It also depends on how aggressive your dr. is with fills. The band will not do all the work. It will help you with your portion sizes after you have the correct fill. It will not stop you from eating ice cream, cookies, cake or chips. These kinds of foods slip right through the band and you can eat way too much of this stuff. If you are determined to follow the rules, a lot of people get close to their goal weight in a year.

WasA, I am really glad you came into this thread. These gals have some serious problems going on. I don't think people realize just how much damage a band can do inside when there is a problem. I don't think regular GP's are able to give good advice when it comes to band problems. They are out of their league. I am dead serious when I talk about the gal on our 50's thread who went months throwing up and having doctors give her bad advice. When she finally found an experienced band surgeon, he told her the band had eroded her stomach so badly he was afraid she would die in surgery while he tried to remove it. We are still waiting to hear from her. Her band removal was scheduled for today. She's in Australia, I do believe.

    Popcorn

Oh that sounds good. Do you get that at a regular store . Does Walmart carry that? I love cheese popcorn!

I can't wait until we hear from Katy. Do we know anyone over there that can give us an update on how she is doing???
  22. Oregondaisy

I am so tired of liquids

That would be annoying. I lost 22 lbs while on my post op liquid diet. Then I lost nothing after that for 4 months.
  23. Oregondaisy

    Popcorn

I have never had that problem. I have eaten huge bags of popcorn at the movies and never had any pain what so ever at any time afterward. I usually have a 120 calorie Protein drink for dinner that evening, trying to make up for the thousands of calories I consumed at the movies. It would actually be good for me if it caused any kind of pain afterward. Then maybe I would be able to resist it when I go to the movies. I never buy it, but my friend does, and the movie theater gives refills on the largest bag, so I am always in trouble because I can't sit there and smell it or watch her eat it.
  24. I think the two of you need marriage counseling. He definitely needs private counseling as well. He can promise you he will never do it again, just like an alcoholic can promise they will never drink again. Addiction is an illness. People go into recovery, but they will always be recovering, not cured.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Cher, my suggestion would be to go to the section on this board on fills. There is a very good post written by wendall edwards. It should be easy to find. It's called How the band works, fills and refills or something like that. It's very informative. Some of us lose much slower than others. Some people take many fills to get restriction. Restriction feels like you are full on a small amount of food. You can tell you're full. You feel like if you eat another bite , you'll throw up. That is not to be confused with food getting stuck. Food gets stuck if it's too big of a bite and you don't chew well enough. It does not go through the band. What it's doing is plugging up the band.
