Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You're doing great Susan. I would be unhappy if someone ate pizza in front of me. I will probably be just like I was when I did the post op diet after banding. I stayed away from people who were eating. I live alone so luckily, there will be nobody eating pizza in front of me. I probably would have wanted to drink some pizza sauce! -
I read a post that someone in their 60's wrote and said there was nowhere to go where people are in their age group. I thought maybe they would like to have a thread where the 60 yr old (and/or older) people could come and talk with people around the same age.

I really don't understand twitter. What is the difference between twitter and facebook? It seems with twitter, all you do is update your status. What is the point of it?

I have no idea what "furl this post" means! I am revising because I am sick of the band with all the problems of fills and unfills. I wish I had known about the sleeve from the beginning. I am looking forward to having restriction and not worrying that the band is doing some sort of damage to my stomach.

I can't believe that somebody hasn't gotten hurt even worse than Laura. I have thought that all along when I see the trainers walking and standing on them, and some of the other grueling things they call work outs, but look like pure torture. Laura looks like she has done well at home, so good for her! She has grown on me over the last few weeks.

1 month post op and loving it!!!!

The band can have a lot of complications. Just go to forums and go to the complications section and start reading. With the sleeve, you have the surgery, and you are done. No fills, no unfills, you just have a smaller stomach and you're good to go. I am sure someone will come on here and explain it much better than I did ! -
Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

I guess the smell/taste thing must come into play here. Like I said, I have no sense of smell, so I think it affects how things taste to me. I tasted the whey in Isopure, but in protein drinks, it tastes like chocolate or vanilla or whatever it is. I guess I will consider myself lucky when I am stuck on liquids too. -
I am assuming that you also stay full longer. I have the band and I can eat a regular normal sized portion that someone who does not have the band can eat. I am sick to death of fills and unfills trying to get the perfect spot. I know when I did have restriction with the band, I stayed full and did not think about grazing because I felt so full, the thought of eating did not even enter my mind. Then I started throwing up in my sleep, and that was the end of that! Then it was time for an unfill and it's been a real dilemma trying to get it right ever since.

I don't understand twitter. I looked at it, but what in the heck do you do with it. My dad fell down and has a broken pelvis. It looks like I will be going to Arizona again sometime soon. -

I tried the GNC unflavored protein powder in some SF lemonaide last night and it tasted fine to me. Have you ever tried the peanut butter chocolate protein drink that WasA recommends? I think it's really good. -
I am afraid my surgery is going to be postponed
Oregondaisy posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My dad's friend just called me. My dad fell down again and is in the ER in Arizona. I had a really bad feeling when I was down there that he isn't going to make it much longer. He just turned 90 April 1st and he smokes like a chimney , he is skin and bones and he can hardly walk. I may have to go back to Arizona really soon but I can't see me being out of contact, out of the country in a month with his health being so bad. -

Well, my dad was diagnosed finally today with a fractured pelvis. I am now trying to figure out how to get to San Diego and then from San Diego to Phoenix. The airlines I had booked my flight for my original surgery date does not fly from San Diego to Phoenix. -
*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You can revise to a sleeve surgery if you are a self pay. There are a lot of people who are unhappy with their band and are getting revision surgery. I am one of those people. I am no longer at goal because I have no restriction. I did learn new eating habits when I did have restriction, but life long habits are hard to get rid of when your band isn't giving you the extra help. -
I am afraid my surgery is going to be postponed

Right now they are talking about this place both my parents went to at one time or another after getting out of the hospital. It's call Mia Casa. I don't know the rules and regs of Medicare. I think medicare will only pay for 30 days? Right now they can't seem to find out why he is in so much pain in his back. I am thinking of an adult foster care situation perhaps if his insurance won't let him stay in Mia Casa for very long. I know you hate Acsess(sp?) But that is what he is on. Maybe I could call you this evening and find out what questions I need to be asking the hospital and social worker if I ever get in touch with one. The last nurse I talked to said a social worker would be contacting me. It's only 3 weeks until my surgery, so maybe if he's in Mia Casa for a month, I won't need to change my surgery date. I am really confused. -

When I said out of contact, I mainly meant I could not just fly there as fast as possible if something even worse went wrong. I would be in the hospital. The social worker was supposed to call me today but nobody called. Maybe they don't have a social worker on duty when it's Easter? I am not sure. I am really thinking that as soon as my money gets here, I am going to call Dr. Aceves and move up my surgery so I can be done with it while they decide what the next step is for him. They can't seem to diagnose why he is so much pain in his back. -

I talked to the hospital this morning and they are probably going to put him in a nursing home where he can get physical therapy. If they do that, I may just run off and get my surgery as soon as my money gets here, which will be next week. At least I would know he's in a safe place being taken care of, while I was there. -
excuse us gentlemen, a poll from the ladies

Luckily, nobody has ever asked me to do that. My bf does like to be tickled in that area, but finds the thought of anal repulsive. I would probably have to rethink my feelings if that were important to him. -

Honestly, it's a big mess. He signed himself out of assisted living after I found him a wonderful place and sold all his stuff. He moved himself into an apartment. There is no easy answer. He hates Oregon where I live, and my brother is in Chicago and is of no help. I don't know what to do. -
Average age of a Bandster?
Oregondaisy replied to Kellster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was 54 when I got the band. I do wish I had done it sooner. I had a friend who had it done years ago and never lost any weight, so I thought it didn't work. I finally met someone else who was really successful and realized that maybe it could work for me. -

I don't have a sense of smell. I wonder if that will make things different for me. People say things must taste different to me than most people because taste is related to smell. -
*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That makes me nervous leaving the hospital with an open wound. I guess I never thought about the fact that things won't be healed up when you leave. We didn't have drains when we got banded. -

I have a pill splitter that I got right after banding. I hope that works well enough. You're right. I should try that Protein powder for the clear diet now just to see how hard it's going to be to get it down. I also have some of the proti brand protein lemon lime drinks that are 15 grams in 8 oz of Water. My daughter tells me they aren't too bad. -
I am having my sleeve done by him as well in less than a month. Everybody that has anything to say about him, his staff and hospital has nothing but glowing, wonderful, happy reports of their experience with him and the hospital.

I bought some clear whey Protein powder at GNC that says it can be added to anything. I just hope it doesn't taste horrid. I'll have to break down and buy some Isopuke if it does. I am so worried about hair loss. I started on the Nioxsin shampoo and scalp treatment today.
