    Peanut Butter for Shakes

I buy peanut butter chocolate whey gourmet from Netrition.com - The Internet's Premier Nutrition Superstore! It's 120 calories and it's delicious. It has 22 grams of protein 2 grams of fat and 3 grams of carbs. I highly recommend it. Their shipping is 4.99 no matter how much you order and that site has everything you could possibly want. Also, you can buy powdered peanut butter from Bell Plantation. It's dehydrated peanut butter and has way less fat and calories that peanut butter.

So what did YOU do to screw up your band?

I wonder why I haven't gotten the email from Dr. Campos? It's pretty easy to see that the band is not good for some people. There are also some people that the band works great for, then all of a sudden, problems start occurring. That's the category I fall into. The band was great and didn't cause me any problems for nearly 2 years. Then it became a nightmare. I am so glad it's out!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi there, Thanks for trying to find it for me. I looked at all the pictures at those sites and none of them looked like the one that I have. It's hard to tell from a picture though. The sides are made out of this really light weight material that is really comfortable. It seems like Warner's must have come out with a new "Friday Bra" As far as revision goes, I am doing great. I am going back to work tomorrow. I feel fine. I am a little bit hungry some of the time. I am not supposed to feel hunger, but being on Clear liquids for 10 days is going to be harder than I thought. My stomach just aches sometimes because it just feels so empty. I just called the doctor's office to ask if I could move to Protein shakes.

Crazy question about 20 years from now

I know every person is different. I am going back to work tomorrow. I could have easily gone back today, (Monday) and I had surgery last Wed. I actually would not have had a problem if it were absolutely necessary to go back yesterday, but it was a Sunday. That would have been 4 days after surgery. I was only painful the during the night of surgery. After that, I spent as much time as possible, walking around the area right outside the hospital exploring Mexicali in my bathrobe. Being in my room was boring. I didn't feel like I needed to be in the hospital. I wasn't in pain and I didn't feel sick.
  5. Right, but when I pat it with sterile gauze, it doesn't do a thing. I can't get it off by "gently trying to clean the dried drainage." I have just been leaving it alone and changing the gauze. I really want to try to drag it off with a q tip, but I just cover it back up. That way I won't feel like I need to touch it. I showed it to my daughter and she said it looked fine. She has worked all over the hospital, and has seen those types of things all the time, so I trust her judgement that it looks the way it's supposed to.

    appetite and the sleeve

I worry about that myself. I know I will only be able to eat small portions and I think that's great. My problem is going to be at work. They always have huge candy bowls with all every type of mini candy bar I truly love. I usually put a piece of typing paper over it so I don't have to look at it. It's right next to the copy machine so I have to go in there often. I do fine most of the time, but there are times when I am in a foul mood over something that's bothering me and I just say "the heck with it" and eat it. Once I get started it's really hard to stop. I have a feeling that I will not get that full feeling from chocolate. I really hope I lose my sweet cravings like everyone else is saying.

Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

I never got a survey but I would like to fill one out. I am kind of worried about my friend that is a big diet coke drinker. Dr Aceves or Dr. Campos never mentioned it to me. It's something I already knew though. Dr. Campos really never spoke to me about diet at all. Dr. A spoke to me about choosing the right foods. She is the type of person that would say "well they never told me" Or "It's not in the paperwork" She is already trying to figure out a way to get out of the leak test. She made me ask Dr. Campos if they could put a tube down her instead of making her drink it. He said no, that it could damage the staples. I told him he was going to have his hands full with her.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

That's great that you're doing so well Elizabeth. You'll be wearing small sizes in no time at all. I am confused when it comes to the mushy stage. I am not there yet, but I think Dr. A's idea of mushy is different from what I could have on my list after lap band surgery. For instance, I could have soft cheese like mozzarella and provelone on my other doctor's mushy diet. He called it mushy/soft. So it could be mushy or solid as long as it was soft. What is considered okay to eat during dr. A's mushy diet?
  9. Susan, What ever happened to you drain incision? Mine looks icky but WasA tells me that's the way it's supposed to look. It has yellow little strings coming out of the hole. WasA told me to leave it alone and just keep changing the gauze. So that's what I have been doing. The hole is still deep. I am kind of glad about that. It's not closing up, but I don't like those yellow strings hanging out.
  10. Go to the gastric sleeve section of this board. It's down at the bottom of the board if you start at forums. The sleeve is where they just make you a tiny stomach. There are no fills or unfills and you have restriction right from the beginning. There are many , many, banded people getting their bands removed and getting a revision surgery to a sleeve. There are also many people getting the sleeve now instead of the band after reading horror stories of band problems. I wish I had known about the sleeve before I got the band, but I didn't and now I am just glad that band is out of me.

Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

One thing I think is weird is Dr. Aceves sends you home with a bunch of paperwork. I couldn't find anywhere on there that it said not to drink soda. Everyone says it will stretch the pouch, and I believe it would. I swear I can't find it in the paperwork though. I can't drink soda anyway because I have a bladder problem and it makes me burn like i have a UTI so I gave it up a long time ago.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Well the post op diet you have to do no matter where you are. Are you going to Dr. Aceves? I don't know how anyone else does their post op diet. As far as feeling bad, I wouldn't worry about feeling poorly. The only person I know who really had trouble with the surgery is WasA, but she was really sick by the time she had revision because she was unable to eat for such a long time before she had the revision surgery. Elizabeth went back to work in a week, and she's a nurse. I have a desk job. If you can get in and have it done early in May, I say go for it!

Yay! We are all going to be happy to have another happy sleeved sister join our group!

Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

The best Protein shake in my opinion is the one WasA turned me on to. It's whey Gourmet Peanut Butter and chocolate. You get it from Netrition.com - The Internet's Premier Nutrition Superstore! It's yummy. I hear costco has a brand called Premier that is 160 calories and 25 grams of protein and several people have told me it's tasty. It's nice sometimes to not have to mix stuff up in a blender, like when traveling. It only comes in chocolate and it's whey based as well.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

They say revisions are more painful so I would say that you won't have any trouble going back to work whenever you choose. Honestly, I could go to work today if I really needed to. It was only the first night that was uncomfortable. My incisions never hurt, it was that left shoulder pain that you get from the CO2 that they use during surgery. I got pain meds in my iv every 4 hours through the night, and I was fine the next day. PLus, he said I had a hiatal hernia that he fixed, and those are supposed to cause more pain with this whole deal. I feel great today and it's 5 days post op. I felt great yesterday, and had no trouble with 2 flights and a 2 hour drive home from the airport.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

You're welcome Ruthi! We are glad to have you join as one as our sleeved sisters. I honestly thought this was going to be a much bigger deal that when I was banded. I could easily go back to work tomorrow, Monday. That would not even be a week off work. I am going to take the day off, and go back Tuesday. It's very nice that this whole thing was so easy and pretty much painless. My first night was bad due to left shoulder pain, but after that, it's been a breeze!

    Carb Addict!!!!

Slim Fast does make several versions of slim fast. One is a low carb slim fast. I would rather buy the Whey Gourmet peanut butter and chocolate though. It's delicious and it's whey (WAY) (pun intended) cheaper!

    I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help

WasA has very good information about Dr. Aceves' credentials. It's not easy to get those FACS letters after your name. He has those for a reason. Have WasA email you all the information.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I have been measured several times, at several different stores. I have even been measured in several states! I am a 38 B right now. I swear men make and design bras and they don't think of comfort when they do this. I have one old one that is made out of a very comfortable material. I can't find it anymore. It's by Warner's and it's called "friday's bra" I hope I don't lose anymore weight in my boobs. They are deflated enough.
  20. I am very happy that Dr. Aceves fixed my hiatal hernia when he removed my band and did the revision surgery to a sleeve.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Hey can somebody tell me how I am supposed to care for the drain opening? I must have left that paper in my room. I have the post op diet instructions and the phrases in Spanish (I saved those for my daughter since she's a nurse and we get a lot of Hispanics that don't speak English in our hospital) Am I supposed to leave the gauze pad on? I remember them telling me to shower and pat dry. After that, do I keep it bandaged? It's gross looking.

    I've got a date!!! :-)

Honestly, I have no complaints. I was treated like royalty there. They said they called my daughter and left her a message on her phone. She says she never did get a message and checked her voice mail. Maybe they dialed the wrong number and didn't notice because it's not her voice on the voice. It's only of those recorded voices that said "you have reached the voice mail box for 541-xxx-xxxx Maybe they just didn't notice that it was not the number I gave them. It all worked out fine. Once we figured out that my daughter could call my cell phone and she was not charged international rates, she called me all the time. I could not call out. I am glad to be home. I will be even happier when I advance to full liquids. I don't seem to have the trouble that Susan and Elizabeth had with getting the liquids in. I have the opposite problem. I want to guzzle all the liquids I can get my hands on. I have to stop myself and remember what it says in the papers they give you . "No more than 2oz at a time" I stopped on the way home from the airport and it took me an hour to drink a bottle of Isopure, but I could have easily guzzled the whole bottle right down. I have to force myself to sip, stop, and wait.

    I've got a date!!! :-)

Everything was great for me . I did have to wait a long time for Ernesto to pick me up at the Comfort Inn in San Diego. They told me to be in the lobby at 10:30 and he did not get there until noon. He had trouble finding the other patient at the San Diego airport. It was fine . they had a tv in the lobby and I called the office a couple of times to find out what the hold up was. Everyone here is great . I am using Dr. Campos' computer at the moment. Most of the nurses speak English and are very helpful and friendly. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos ask you over and over if you have any questions. They could not be more helpful. The only complaint I had was they promised to call my daughter the minute I was out of surgery. She finally called the office and talked to Monica because nobody called her. I asked the minute I woke up if anyone had called her and they said yes. It was a couple of hours after that, when she finally called the office. I had told her what time I would be in recovery and she waited a couple hours past that before she called. It kind of upset me that they told me they called her when they hadn't. My other complaint is that my phone does not work here. That is not their fault though. It worked the first day I got here and it said AT&T. then the next day it said TelCel. I had called my cell carrier while I was in San Diego and they told me if it said telcel, it would cost .99 per minute. I probably ran up a $100 phone bill while I was here, but Dr. Campos let me use his phone anytime I asked if I could use it. The only other complaint I have is it's pretty boring cause I don't feel like I need to be in the hospital. I know I do, cause I just had surgery, but I don't feel sick. It's pretty boring to lay around. I went for several walks outside, read, chatted with the nurses, and watched a little tv. There isn't much on cause 2 of the 3 English channels are the same and the rest are in Spanish.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

you have to drink some horrid tasting stuff when they do your leak test. It's so they can see if anything at all is leaking out of your staple line. There are really no words to describe how bad this stuff tastes. You take a big gulp and it's over with in about a minute or less. Then I went and spit in the garbage can and brushed my teeth. the taste was gone quickly.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

I told everyone at work I was having my gall bladder out. I didn't want to tell anyone I was getting my band. I told them this time that I was going to see my dad in Phoenix. I still don't want to tell them. it's nobody's business. I didn't want people watching what I ate or asking me quesitons and I still don't. 10 days of clear you can have jello sf popsicles broth herbal tea, unflavored whey protien mixed in crystal lite and I think Elizabeth had soy milk. 10 days of regular liquid you can have soup but you have to blend it so there are no chunks in it and progtein shakes. Let me know if you have any other questions and nobody comes back here for awhile. I have the lap top at the hospital til I go to sleep. Then tomorrow Susan Elizabeth or WasA will be around to answer more questions . we are all glad to help!
