*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am using GNC brand unflavored protein powder. I have the Whey Gourmet peanut butter and chocolate and I like that. WasA told me that the protein powder gets lumpy if it gets warm. I could go to my Dr.'s office and buy some protein soup. I went out to lunch with my daughter today and have been sick ever since. I thought I could have soup but the only soup they had was cream of potato. I spit the potatoes out but whatever the cream of part was made out of, apparently made me sick . It must be that lactose intolerance you are all speaking of. I have had horrible gas pains that are doubling me over. I am passing gas but not nearly enough compared to all the rumbling that's going on in my abdomen. I am going to stick with protein shakes for now. I bought some of that soy slender Elizabeth talked about and it's good. I made a protein shake out of that with the peanut butter/choc. and it was good. -
There is no dumping with the sleeve. You have a smaller stomach made out of the part of the stomach that isn't stretchy. People think having their stomach made smaller is drastic. But that is exactly what they are trying to achieve by wrapping a piece of silicone their stomach. The thing is, some stomachs won't tolerate it at all, and some will only tolerate it for a period of time. I like to think of it as wrapping a tight rubber band around my finger and seening how it feels after a period of time.

So what does hunger feel like to you?

what else can I have on clear liquid diet
Oregondaisy replied to slimm2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
is there any way to get protein into the broth? I was told if you mix protein powder in it, it will curdle or get lumpy. I want to low calorie soups! -
My stomach feels exactly the way it has always felt right before lunch time. I can remember in H.S. waiting for my lunch hour .My stoamch growled then and now right before 12 pm. It felt like hunger to me. It feels the same way it did about 5 pm every day-Thats the way hunger feels to me.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Susan, I am asking you the same thing I asked Elizabeth. What did you eat on full liquids? I know I can have soup but most of them are such high caloried and not much protein. Do you have any suggestions for full liquids? -
Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.
Oregondaisy replied to Elisabethsew's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Elizabeth, what can I have on full liquids? I know I can have thicker protein shakes. Is yogurt a mushie or a full liquid? Also can you recommend some low calorie soups or recommend anything I haven't mentioned here? thank you. -
I had the lap band and had revision to a sleeve. Before you make your decision, read the complications section of this board. You can also read the stories of why people got revision to a sleeve on the sleeve section of the board. The band can slip, erode, the port can flip, some people do not have good weight loss with the band, some people get horrible reflux, some people can't seem to get the right fill. that means a lot of fills and unfills. With the sleeve, they make you a smaller stomach and you have restriction right from surgery. It's a big decision so you should know everything there is to know about all weight loss surgeries.

Any sleevers for June? Dr Aceves?
Oregondaisy replied to debking811's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
People say that your taste changes after you have surgery and not to stock up on too much stuff. I bought unflavored GNC Why Protein powder and I mix it with all sorts of sf stuff. Most people hate Isopure but I didn't find it too bad. At $4 a bottle though, I was looking for a cheaper alternative. Dr. Aceves told me that the hair loss comes from lack of Zinc. That's the first I have heard of that one. I have always been told to take Biotin and up my protein. I need to remember to get some Zinc next time I am out. -
I stayed in the hospital for 3 nights. I had surgery on a Wed. and I went back to work on Tuesday. I could have easily gone back to work on Monday but I thought I might as well take a day off.

No kidding. Thank God for LBT! Thank you Alex!

hair loss and bathing
Oregondaisy replied to istra's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just got a revision surgery from band to sleeve. I asked him if my hair was going to fall out again and he told me to increase my zinc. I told him I got plenty of Protein after band surgery and it still fell out from 4 months post op to one year. He said it's not protein, it's zinc. I need to remember to get some next time I am at the store. My hair is still not completely recovered from band surgery over 2 years ago. -
I don't think hunger is a feeling. I would consider that head hunger. Hunger is when I can feel my stomach so empty that it aches.

what else can I have on clear liquid diet
Oregondaisy replied to slimm2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to drink low sodium broth. It is so much better. I always check for low sodium ones because if I get regular, they are way too salty for me. If You have a GNC, you can get unflavored whey protein powder and mix it in crystal light or sf lemonaide, or anything sugar free that you like. -
I know some of what is going on is head hunger. I was at my bf's house a bit ago, and he opened the fridge. I saw a bottle of hershey's chocolate syrup in there and I wanted to squirt the bottle down my throat! Now that is head hunger. The rest of the hunger I have is not in my head. My stomach just growls and gnaws and I feel like I am going to starve half to death. It's' very annoying. I drink Water, and I am getting plenty of Protein in. I am amazed that my stomach growls like this because I am hardly getting any carbs in. Usually when I did the atkins diet, my stomach did not growl. My protein mix has 2 or 3 grams of carbs and I think crystal light is zero. I am so glad I am moving to full liquids on Sunday! I can't wait to feel the benefit of the sleeve and feel full on a few bites of food.:glare:

Sometimes if the band is left unfilled for a few weeks and they put you on a liquid diet, the band will go back to the right position. Any time you have these night time problems, get into your doctor immediately. It's dangerous! I revised to a sleeve because the band damaged my esophagus from throwing up in my sleep.

Is this Stuck??? Or just eating to fast???
Oregondaisy replied to AudsMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You were definitely stuck and it finally made it through the band. You need to make sure you chew your food until there is nothing left to chew. Being stuck is painful. Eventually, it will not go through the band, and it will come back up. Until it does, you will be in pain. that is why you must take itty bitty bites and chew it up until it's liquid in your mouth. -
Dr Daniel Huacuz He Is Inamed Certified
Oregondaisy replied to lucartwlucy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am very sorry for your loss. My kids grew up without a father and nobody should have to go through this. I think it would benefit this board if you posted your story in more than one place. A lot of people don't come to this section of the board. People need to know that this doctor is not what people think. Your story needs to be told all over this board. You would be doing so many people a favor who are considering this doctor. -
Here they call them pharmacy techs. I have no idea what they get paid though.

I am really anxious to be off this stupid but necessary liquid diet so I can really see how the sleeve works. Elizabeth and Susan were not hungry but I am starving most of the time. My stomach just growls and growls. I really hope when I move to full liquids on Sunday, this will improve. This is, by far the only thing hard about this entire process.

Honestly, I would not have liked to have to wait to get insurance approval. Once I decided I wanted the band out, I started calling Dr. Aceves. There is nobody else I would want to do my band. I was 20-30 lbs over weight due to having to have hardly any fill in my band. I was having band complications that I could see just getting worse, not better. I didn't want to fool around getting fills and unfills constantly, when I knew how and why the sleeve works. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Aceves and would highly recommend him, the hospital and the entire staff.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Oregondaisy replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't get a fill if you don't need one. If you feel like you're really hungry all the time, then get one. It's best not to get one unless you need one. -
I went by myself. Sometimes it amazes me that I did. I don't like to do anything alone. Anytime I want to do something, I call friends and if they can't go, I just stay home. I still can't believe I got on a plane, went to a strange airport, drove with strangers to a strange hospital, and had surgery where they removed a good majority of my stomach.

I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help
Oregondaisy replied to roseyandmusic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are supposed to get an upper GI at some point in time, but you could have that done anywhere. Honestly, there is no other doctor I would have wanted to do my sleeve other than Dr. A. Whether he was somewhere in the U. S. or in Mexico that's where I would have gone. -
Congratulations Angel! That's only a month from now and I am sure the time will fly by! A really good friend of mine is there right now. She had sleeve surgery yesterday. Yay for the sleeve! We are all going to be living happier lives!
