You're lucky you have a support group. There are so many people who don't have a support group because they leave the area to have surgery. My surgeon that did my band does not care where you had surgery. If you have had WLS, you are welcome at support group. I love support group. It's really nice to watch everyone's progress, and lend support to those who are struggling. He insists that he sees better weight loss long term from the people who come to support group. He always has a great guest speaker. I look forward to it every month. I am on the way there now! I also like being able to buy some of the stuff he sells. It's yummy. It's not any more expensive, when you consider the price of shipping from stuff you buy online.

Do you have a particular reason that you don't want to go to Mexico? I absolutely love Dr. Aceves. He is a fabulous surgeon and they treat people like royalty in that hospital. The only cost to you besides surgery is the cost of plane fare to San Diego. Everything else is included in the price.

Glad to have another sleeve member coming on board to our little neck of the woods so to speak. I see from your signature you have to wait until August. I hope the time flys for you. Dr. Pleatman has been on this board answering questions from time to time, and I think that's nice of him to take the time to do that.

How old are you? My insomnia started after I went through menopause. I didn't know there were long term effects of Ambien. I take it all the time. Another thing that works well but this you can't take all the time is Kava Kava. I also will take Valerian with over the counter Unisom. It has to be unisom in the orange box. There is another unisom which has the same ingredient as benadryl or any of the other sleep aids such as sominex. This is a different ingredient. I usually change off with these things because Ambien will not work for me if I take it every night. Oh and one more thing my dr. prescribed for me for sleep is Neurontin. It's actually for seizures but it's being used for all sorts of things now such as nerve pain and insomnia. I would not sleep at all if I didn't take something. I am often up until about 3 am on the weekends just because I am wide awake, have things to do, and don't feel drowsy. Eventually, I force myself to settle down and take my medication for sleep. It's very common in menopausal women, but I don't know your age.

That depends on how high your BMI is and your doctor.

Yeah, I really don't get it. Yesterday I had tomato soup I had gotten from my band doctor. I was so full after that I could not even drink water until about 4 pm. I felt like I had eaten a turkey dinner and went back for 2nds. I really don't get it. The tomato soup was not thick. It's just about the same consistency as all the protein drinks I have been drinking, and has the same amount of protein grams. I finally got to feel like what a sleeve is supposed to feel like.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am not having any trouble getting all the protein in. I was drinking 4 drinks with 20 grams each when I was so hungry. Yesterday I had only 2 but then I remembered I needed more, so in the evening I had some protein hot chocolate. -

I have been drinking muscle milk which is a RTD. It says no lactoce on the container. Before that, I was mixing unflavored whey prtein into crystal lite. I have also been drinking that soy slender that Elizabeth told us about . it's good. -

What in the heck happened? I had tomato Soup for lunch today. It was this soup I had left over from band surgery that I bought from my dr. so it had 20 grams of Protein in it. It was good. I think I will go there and buy some more. It's not particularly thick. It's pretty much the same consistency of what I have been drinking on clears. But! It was only 1 cup. 8oz. I was so full I could not drink Water until almost 4:00. I felt like I had eaten turkey dinner and gone back for seconds. Why is this? I have been drinking 8 oz clears for 10 days now and never felt full like this. Maybe I am finally starting to feel like I have a sleeve. -
yay! Our little sleeve neighborhood here at LBT is growing by leaps and bounds. I am happy for you. congratulations!

Don't forget that men are visual creatures. They may still love you when you have put on weight, but they really can't help themselves that they find you more appealing when you suddenly start to look hot to them again. I am not saying it's right, but it seems to be human nature with men.

Let the doctor be the judge of how much to remove. If you were able to eat okay where you were before this last fill, then that's probably where you need to be. When you throw up, things swell up inside. People are supposed to go on liquids for 24 hours after an episode of throwing up. It's possible that you are eating too fast, taking too big of bites and not chewing enough. You need to chew your food until it's liquid in your mouth. They say to take a bite the size of a pencil eraser. The band can help you forget about food, with the right fill. When you have the right fill, chew correctly, take small bites and wait in between bites, you will get full on a small amount of food and stay full for several hours. You will be full enough that thinking of food doesn't even sound appetizing.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

I am glad you had a nice experience going out to eat with your friends. It's important that our lives don't change so much just because of the surgery. -

Well TMI, but I hadn't gone potty in a few days. Maybe there was just a lot to come out. It was too nasty for words. -
Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was really horrible. Now I am afraid to add milk to anything. I haven't had any trouble with my Protein drinks but now I am afraid to move off them and do the full liquids. It seems like there is milk or milk products when I read labels in a lot of things. I have never had such horrible gas pains in my entire life! -

I did not know that oatmeal was a full liquid. I thought it was a mushie. I used weight control oatmeal and made it very watery by adding milk to it but now I am afraid of milk. I love that soy slender you recommended. I am glad I have Susan and you to guide me through these post op food phases. Thank You! -
Your surgery was about a month before mine. Good luck and I hope you have continued sucess! What kind of post op diet did you have to do?

Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Thanks. Apparently, sleeve surgery can make us lactose intollerant for awhile. I never want to go through that again. I thought I was going to die, lol. -

Does anyone know about this lactose intolerance business? Does it follow through with the yogurts? I had some cream of potato Soup when I went out to lunch with my daughter. I felt like it was the only thing on the menu I could have. I spit the potatoes out. I have been so sick with painful gas and diarrhea, I couldn't even believe it. I finally remembered I had some anti diarrhea pills. Now I am afraid to have anything milk based. -

I ate some cream of potato soup and spit out the potatoes.Whatever they made the cream of part out of, I had a really bad reaction. It must be the lactose intolerance people have been talking about. I have been full of gas, and sorry if it's TMI, I have been in the bathroom for hours. I finally remembered to take an anti diarrhea pill. HOnestly, I don't ever remember being this sick. -
All I know is now that I am on full liquids, that gnawing feeling is gone, thank goodness.

I was banded in 12-06 but I recently got a revision to a sleeve. The band was causing me all sorts of problems. -
How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Oregondaisy replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can you feel your port? Mine was in a different place after I had lost weight because my skin was stretched out and saggy, but you can usually feel the port. -
