Lap Band vs Sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree. I didn't have that many band problems but I was hungry unless my band was really tight, and that made it difficult to eat very many foods. I love the sleeve because I am never hungry. I forget for hours that food even exists. -
It's really hard for me right now because my dad fell and broke his hip after having a broken pelvis in April. I am not home in my own kitchen. My weight really hasn't changed since moving to solids. I need to take advantage of this time, but it's difficult for me to think about solids sitting in my dad's hospital room. The great thing is I am never hungry. I tried that Premier Protein drink from costco and I thought it was disgusting. I ordered something today from vistacost.com that someone on the other board suggested. Lean Dessert or something like that. I ordered the chocolate coconut flavor. I already love the Peanut Butter chocolate that WasA recommended to me from Netrition.com a long time ago. I should have brought some with me.

need ideas from those of you who quite newbies anymore
Oregondaisy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey maybe this belongs in the food section. I have been eating those little cans of chicken salad. I am doing that mainly because my dad is in the hosptial and I can take them anywhere. What are some good ideas and portions for those of us just starting out? I am about to go down to the cafeteria to try to eat dinner. It will be the first time not eating in front of my brother since I got here, so I can be more daring. I didn't want to have a problem around him so I have been sticking to Soup. I know Elizabeth said she likes 100 calorie English muffins. What are anyone else's favorite things that are small and tasty? what's good and the right portion size? -
Well she went to our doc, so going back there for a test is not an option. I told her she needs to be evaluated by her PCP. He is retiring and I have always thought he is a rotten doctor anyway. I don't think she has decided on who her new PCP will be. I have to add here that she is also a nurse and claims that nurses are the worse patients. She drank broth the first 10 days, but did include other little things, a bite of this or that. Full liquids I do believe she had chocolate milk. She hates the taste of the Protein drinks. For mushies she had chicken noodle Soup with the noodles mashed up, a little bit of mashed Beans,& mashed potatoes. She really has had no protein to speak of that I know of since she had surgery, other than what little bit there is in those cans of pork and beans.

Fighting that clean your plate mentality is not as easy as it sounds. I would rather have my TOM than all the horrid things that came with menopause. It came, it left and it was never a bother.

Plus he has a great personality and is very caring and concerned that you understand exactly everything he tells you. He's a great doctor!

You know, my grandparents came to this country from Greece. They came legally, and learned to speak, read, and write English. They knew if they wanted a better life in this country, they needed these skills. My daughter is an ob nurse. It's very hard to help someone in labor who does not speak a word of English. Their husbands speaks English, so I don't get why they do not bother to teach their wife English. It's the same story. They came to Oregon or California or whatever state, to have a better life. It's a little difficult to have a better life when you can't communicate your needs.

You are 10 days ahead of me. I had surgery on 4-29. I haven't eaten many solids yet. It's pretty hard for me to judge how much I am supposed to eat. I was happier on mushies and liquids. I want to keep trying solids, but I need to learn how to be a better judge of how much to eat.

That's what I seem to have a problem with. I can't tell I am full until I get up and walk around. I feel fine at the table. I better keep measuring and keep something to measure with in my purse when I am out. -

I ordered bbq ribs. they were tiny. I ate one. I kind of knew when I ate the last bite that it would be one bite too many. You know how it is, you think (before being sleeved) oh it's just the last bite. Well it was one bite too many. I slimed for awhile. It was not nearly as bad as when I ate too much fish the other day. That day it felt like my stomach was going to explode. I meant to take the other one home and forgot and they threw it away. Damn. It was so good. I can be on solids now, and it's the first thing I've had to eat that wasn't mushy. It was very soft and tender. I'm still learning. -

Mac, do you know what the deal is on those Protein shots? All I know is I was advised against them because it's not a good form of protein. I used unflavored Protein Powder that I got at GNC and it was fine. I put it in all sorts of stuff.

I've heard that the Protein in those shots do not come from a good protein source. I don't know all the facts on this, but I was told not to drink them.

I am loving my sleeve too

Thanks everyone. The good news is that there is a computer for me to use right outside his room. He came through the surgery for his broken hip and I am really glad I will be getting him out of the place he was in and into a better place. I think I will be returning to Arizona very frequently now. There is a great Airlines, Alegiant air that is $59 each way. I am working on getting a replacement for me at work, who wants to work part time. I am sure I can work it out with my boss for her to work for me so I can come down here once a month or so. -
I don't have much of a story
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, I am lucky that recovery was a breeze. I do have problems with milk products. If I take lactaid, it's a big help. I've heard it's common with sleeved people. I did have one issue when I ate what I thought was a little bit, but turned out to be too much. I was in pain for a long time and it felt like my stomach was about to burst. I learned my lesson now. I really couldn't tell I was too full at the table, but as soon as I stood up, I knew I was in trouble. I've been eating those little cups of chicken salad that come in a can. I use that for measuring. I can now tell when looking at food if it would fit in that can or not. I am not going to wait for that full feeling, but instead, just stop eating after that size portion and that has been a big help. -
Why do women have anal sex?
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Amazing that there would be an extreme difference. I would guess it would be the same with regular sex. Without proper foreplay, there is not the lubrication that you need- which is not comfortable! -
I didn't have any trouble with the nurses speaking English. Lucy and Sergio speak great English and the other nurses that took care of me spoke enough to talk to me when I needed. There may have been one time when the nurse went and got someone who spoke better Engish than she did. She understood me, but she felt more compfortable getting someone else who spoke better English to respond to me. I am glad you're home Rosebud, and on the road to recovery. I found the 10 days on clears the hardest of anything, but I did drink the Isopure to get the Protein. I liked the fruit punch flavor. Once you move to fulls, there is much more of a variety of things you can have.

No, sorry to say things have gone from bad to worse. he fell out of his wheelchair today and broke his femur/hip. They lost his teeth a week ago so he has hardly eaten or had much to drink in a week, and now they are talking about doing surgery. I don't think he can make it through surgery but we'll see. It's his decision. there is nothing wrong with his mind. I will probably spend the evening in the bathroom since I went to the dairy queen and got ice cream, my usual stress reliever. I didn't have any lactaid on me and I know now what milk products do to me. -
I didn't mind the isopure. I liked the fruit punch flavor. I sipped on it slowly the first few days cause I did want to be sue to get my Protein in. After losing so much hair after banding, I wanted to do whatever is possible not to lose anymore. I am not even sure it will help, but it's worth a try. I think the hair loss actually came from the shock to the body of having surgery.

Well I am leaving for the airport to go to San Diego. It's a 2 hour ride to get to the airport. I am excited and hope I didn't forget anything because I took care of my grand son this morning and he is a handful to watch and get anything done. I don't have a lap top but I am hoping somebody will let me use a computer so I can check in. Talk to everyone soon! Daisy

I saw her posting on OH. I lurk over there once in awhile. -
I got chewed out on another thread for saying the band has complications. I guess I should have also titled it band to sleeve people.

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve

I am sure there will be a link from here over to there. I would think Alex would do that at least in the beginning. -
where the guy's band slipped after 6 weeks? Dr. told him he was allergic to the silicone.
