Lap Band vs Sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WasA explained it exactly right. I know many many people who have had gastric bypass and I can count the people on one hand who have not gained most or all of their weight back. -
Soon to have the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Eyfura's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I only had pain meds in my IV the first day. The other time they gave me something under my toungue for a headache. I think it was Toradol . That leak test stuff does taste horrid but it's over with quickly. Everyone remember to brush your teeth as soon as you're done and you won't even remember how badly it tasted, just that it wasn't much fun. -
What is the name of that clear liquid that you order online. For the life of me, I can't remember and I have been trying to think of it for days. It's that one made by the company that wanted you to work for them. Sytrex? The stuff I tasted wasn't bad.

I could not be happier that this board is here. I had my surgery only about 6 weeks ago. I am still learning how to eat with the sleeve, but it's felt really great not to be obsessed about food anymore.

I had quiche in a restaurant that was very good and it was made with swiss cheese and chopped up broccoli. They do have low fat swiss cheese. I hate eggs but I am going to try making this and making it with swiss cheese. Thanks Elizabeth!

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Oregondaisy replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got a revision surgery and had my band removed and got the sleeve. I got really sick of fills and unfills looking for the perfect spot. It took me many fills to find restriction and finally when I thought it was perfect, I started throwing up in my sleep. I had a swallow test and it turned out to be too tight. I never had problems in the day time. I chewed my food well and nothing got stuck. Then in the middle of the night, it would come back up. When they removed my fill because of this, I started gaining weight back. That is why I decided I was done with the band and got the sleeve. I will never have to have another fill or unfill again. -
Rice does not "hurt" the band. Most people can't tolerate it after they have had a fill. It plugs up the band. It gums up and will not go through the band, and people puke it up.

Is the sleeve a second WLS surgery for most?
Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MacMadame had the sleeve as her only wls and has lost over 100 lbs. -
Protein, Protein, How to get in all of my protein...
Oregondaisy replied to debestmath's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Protein drinks. You can get at least 20 grams in a Protein Drink. You'll have to find one you like though. I have heard good things about the Lean Dessert that you can order from vitacost.com. I also really like the Peanut Butter chocolate whey gourmet that you can order from Netrition.com -
Lap Band vs Sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
will keep fingers crossed. The band is just plain a bad idea for anyone. It may be great at first, but the complications always seem to come down the road. -
I got mine at GNC

I can't help out with that one. Not that I am a long timer. I could guzzle water immediately and it was really hard for me to go slow and try to drink only a little bit of fluid at a time. -
Two New Discoveries (at least new to me)

That's great! I think I can handle 1 on the sugar alcohol. I wish they would just get rid of that stuff. More things are supposed to come out with stevia. -
Soon to have the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Eyfura's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was so amazed at how quickly I recovered. Now that am all done with the post op diet, learning to eat after being sleeved is not quite as easy. -
Can you not add unflavored protein powder to the punch?
-
What flavor did you order? I am excited to try mine when I get back to Oregon. I have heard all the flavors are really good though.

no, the Walmart here did not have them. They did not even have the fudge brownie ones I get in Oregon. That would be really nice of you to do that! I will wait until I get back to Oregon to see if my regular Walmart has them. They do not give you gas? -
Lap Band vs Sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the important thing for people to know who think RNy is better is that the sleeve stomach is made from the muscular part of the stomach which does little stretching. I lost count of the number of people I know who had gastric bypass and has gained all or nearly all of their weight back from stretching out "the pouch" Be prepared if you get the sleeve , to get full really fast and you are DONE. -
Now that you talk about it, I remember what you are talking about. I just thought it was because the person was not deleting the pm they were responding to.

A New Home - Sleeve People!
Oregondaisy replied to Elisabethsew's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I suggest that anyone you eat around frequently knows about your surgery if you are comfortable telling them. It's even harder to hide than eating with a band, if your band was not making you puke. I was able to hide my band surgery pretty easily, because I was only having band problems right before my sleeve surgery. My brother is so into himself that he didn't notice that I only ate a few bites every time we went out to dinner this past few days. I have so many to go cartons in the fridge that I have no more room to put anymore Luckily, my daughter knows all about my surgery. We went out to dinner tonight, and there was no way I was going to order a meal when I knew I could only eat 5 bites tops. -
I will be! I am so happy to get this news. Living with the sleeve is a real learning experience and I think the chat room will be extremely beneficial! I wish had internet access in my dad's house.

Thanks everyone. It's such a big mess. My name is only on his checking account which has all the bills automatically deducted out of, and now social security will no longer be depositing. He has his money spread out all over the place, and I have to write to them to see if I was named beneficiary. I am sure I am, but that does not help me at the moment. He gave me a key to his safety deposit box and it's not the right key. I have searched high and low for his key, but it looks like I will have to have the box drilled for $150 to get inside it. Things can't keep getting worse, right?

I ate ricotta cheese during the mushy stage. I didn't think it was all that good. It didn't have much flavor. What did I do wrong. I mixed it with an egg, and parm. cheese and baked it. The flavor mainly came from the sauce I put over the top. Now did I read on here that mixing it with cocoa powder is good?

I can have one piece of the sugar free candy and it's okay. If I have another one though, it's a disaster.
