New here, need encouragement...
Oregondaisy replied to bren's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am glad you found us here. I really think this board is so much easier to navigate. There are a lot of people at OH, but I find it difficult to follow the posts because of the way it is set up. It's really easy to fall into the snacking mode. There is so much junk food at my job, it's very difficult to ignore it. Even with the sleeve, it takes willpower not to give into eating in between meals. Luckily for me, if I don't watch what I eat, it doesn't take long before my pants won't fit. I refuse to go out and buy bigger size pants. I do better telling myself I am on a diet. Some people say it's not a diet, it's a new way of eating healthy. That does not work for me. I can eat healthy foods, but in order for me to stay away from snack foods, I have to tell myself "no, you're on a diet" I am not far from goal weight because I only gained back 15 lbs when I had my band removed, but I know I will never get where I want to be if I eat in between meals. -
Prospective band to sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Bornagainbabe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
sounds like you have a good surgeon. From what I have read, complications with the sleeve are rare. I am really glad I had my band taken out. I was really afraid the band would damage my stomach and then I would not be able to have a sleeve. The sleeve is so much easier to live with. -
I find it amusing to watch the other people eat. I watch them eat and wonder where they are putting it.

Banded Now.. Researching the Sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Lisa B's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would never go for an RNY. I know so many people that had it done and gained all or most of their weight back. The RNY does not use the same part of the stomach that they make the sleeve from. The sleeve stomach does not stretch because they use the muscular part of the stomach. I was banded for nearly 2 years before the vomiting in my sleep began. it didn't take me long to want that band out as soon as possible to get the sleeve. I am really glad I did. -

Glad you found us. We need more people who are not quite a new as me. I never thought I would run off to Mexico by myself either, but I am sure glad I did! -

I hope you get some answers soon. I am curious to hear what could be causing the nausea and vomiting. -
I'd almost decided but now I'm not so sure....

another band to sleeve revision person here. I am so glad to be rid of that band. I wish I had known about the sleeve from the beginning, but I am so glad I finally did find out about it .I love the sleeve and I love never being hungry. -

I would never make it if I baked for a living. Sweets are my big downfall. Glad you found us! -

I do believe the paperwork I came home with from Dr. Aceves office said to try to stick with around 800 calories per day. I am not hungry so I usually have a protein drink for breakfast and lunch and some sort of meat with a few veggies for dinner. -

Way to go! I knew you could do it. -
I got the Lean Dessert brand from vitacost.com It's choc. coconut. It's not bad but it's not great either. It's thick even made with Water, if you like your shakes thicker. It's not gritty. One scoop is 20 grams of Protein and 130 calories. I think the next time I do a vitacost order, I'll try the banana bread flavor. So far my favorite is still whey gourmet Peanut Butter chocolate.

yes, let us know how it is going. Are you having trouble getting your liquids in?

Anyone sorry they had the VSG surgery?
Oregondaisy replied to debking811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sort of miss having big meals with my friends and family. But I still go out and socialize with them. It's nice not to have to stuff myself to do that.I either share a meal, or order something from the appetizer menu. I have a card that says I had weight loss surgery, which allows me to order off the senior menu or the children's menu. I usually bring food home, but that's a good thing. I don't like to cook so I always have something left over in the fridge from eating out. Anit depressants are known to cause insomnia. That's one of the reasons I got off of them. Maybe there is a different one that you could take that won't cause that as much. Give yourself time. You just barely had surgery. You will enjoy buying smaller clothes, and all the other different things that come along with weight loss. Have you talked to your surgeon about not being able to eat if you drink Water? That does not sound right to me. In time your new stomach should stretch a little so you can eat a little bit more. -
I borrowed Dr. Campos' lap top every day I was there. It was a lifesaver. he is good about letting people borrow it. Ask Sergio.

I am not sorry, but it is a big change. You can only eat a few bites of hard protein and it's got to be chewed up very well in itty bitty pieces. It can be difficut to move to solids after liquids and mushies, but we must learn to eat slower, take tiny bites and chew chew and chew somemore. If I do that, it's easy. -
Soon to have the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Eyfura's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
They tell me my recovery was so easy because I have been doing crunches every day for the last 5 years. I get the muscles are strong or something. I am excited to get back to the gym I miss working out. I am grumpy when I don't get my gym time. -
Well I finally found the safety deposit box key. It was in his travel bag that I decided to take the airport to put my lap top in. A lot of good it did for me to find it on a Sunday when the banks were closed. I advise everyone not to put off making wills and making sure you have beneficiars on any bank accounts. This is going to be a big mess to straighten out. I am really glad I dragged my parents screaming and kicking their way to an attorney's office to make me power of attorney and have wills drawn up. I can't even imagine what a worse mess this would all be if the hadn't done that. They insisted it was not necessary because my name was on everything , but it turns out it was not. It could be months to get it straighten out, and the bills are rolling in.

Whey Protein is supposed to be a better protein. It's more easily absorbed and give you more bang for the buck, is what I have been told. nectar is a good clear protein made my Syntrax. YOu have to order it online. IT comes in different flavors. I remember Mac saying she liked Twisted cherry.

Soon to have the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Eyfura's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for posting that picture. It's adorable. i am so glad you were all there at the same time. That's so great! You'll feel better really soon. I guess I don't know how lucky I was that I could drink a lot of liquid without pain right from the beginning. I wonder why that is. -
It's so nice that you were both there at the same time. I am so glad to hear you're both doing well. The staff there is so great!

Yeah, that Greek yogurt is expensive and I have never found it in very big containers. I should run out and find me an ice cream maker. It sounds wonderful.

New here and thankful

I am always glad to see people who post over at that other board come over here and start posting. I think this board and the people are fantastic. I don't know any of the people over there, but I find that site difficult to navigate. Congratulations on your weight loss. It's nice to see some more people who aren't newly sleeved in case people like me have questions. I can't seem to get it through my head that I can't eat as much as I could with the band. -
I chewed gum the first day when I could not have Water and Dr. Campos had a fit. He said it would be very dangerous if I swallowed it. I assured him that I have never swallowed my gum. It was very helpful to relieve the dry mouth, until I could have water. I am so glad you're on the road to recovery. Now you get to start the wonderful clear liquid phase. So glad everything went smoothly!

I am so sorry to hear you had a leak. I am glad to hear you're doing better! I can't remember, who did your surgery? That goes to show how important it is to have this surgery done in a hospital and not a clinic.

I don't think my taste has changed since surgery. I still crave sweets but I know that's all in my head. I am not hungry, but I still like the same things. I still like Muscle Milk light, which WasA hates. I am anxious to try the lean dessert when I get out of Arizona. I will report back on that Monday. I can also look in my cupboard for that clear brand that you said the twisted cherry is a good flavor. I can't remember the name of it and dont' know where you got it, Mac.
