I got a date to talk to the surgeon.

You will be very happy when you have your surgery by Dr. Aceves. The whole experience was more like a vacation for me. I loved being there! -
Let's discuss "the foamies" and "sliming"
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I never have this problem with Protein drinks. I can drink a Protein Drink right down, and they are 8oz. I don't have the problem with soft foods or mushy foods either. Solid hard protein it's very hard to judge how much to eat and when I think it's only a tiny bit, it's still too much. I am learning. I eat these little tiny cans of chicken salad. They are the perfect size for me. If I eat solid protein, and pile it up so that it looks like the amount in that little can, it's still way too much, and this sliming or foamies or whatever you want to call it, goes on and on. It's miserable. -
I have to have the fan blowing on me at the gym too. I freak out if all the fans are taken.

Don't worry Ruthi. It's completely different when you eat soft/mushy food than when you eat solid protein like beef or pork. -
Let's discuss "the foamies" and "sliming"
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're right, Mac. With banding the food is stuck and that's what causes it. With the sleeve, what seems to be my problem is I don't have a full signal. I eyeball what looks to me like the right portion and apparently is too much. I don't feel full at the table, but all of a sudden 10-15 min later, I feel really sick. Once it starts, it lasts a couple hours. I don't know what to call it, but my mouth will not stop watering and I have to keep a cup near me to keep spitting it out. I rarely throw food up, even though I would like to. It definitely makes me not want to eat solids. -
it's only day 1-5 that it has to be clear. 3 of those days I was in the hospital. The milky color of the unflavored Protein powder didn't bother me because I used a glass that was not see through. I thought it tasted fine mixed in crystal lite. the problem now is I have all this crystal lite left over, and all I drink is Water.

If you overeat with the sleeve, it's extremely painful. You feel like your stomach is going to burst open. Then the sliming starts. It's pretty much the same as when you slime with a band. I think it would be hard for a teenager to get used to a sleeve. It's not bad with soft foods, but any kind of meat, it's like 5 bites and you are way too full. I am told it's going to stretch somewhat, but at this point, I find it very difficult to eat hard Protein. -
Vitalady.com samples...

The peanut butter and chocolate from the site that WASa gave you is really good. I have a lot of different shake mixes because I like protein shakes. The PBchoc. is by far the smoothest. I use the magic bullet on all of them, but some of my other brands still have lumps in them, no matter how long I blend them up. -

I am glad you found us too. Welcome! I lurk at OH because there are more people who have had the sleeve a long time over there, but I love this site. I find it very difficult to keep track of things over there. I love the way this site is set up. You're going to love having a sleeve. -
Why is there a clear liquid phase?
Oregondaisy replied to dharma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mac's doctor doesn't say clear liquid, he says thin liquid. Personally, I don't know what the difference would be between thin and clear. To me, thin is as thin as water. -

From what WASa says, and I know she is very knowledgeable, the mini bypass is a bad surgery to get. Maybe you should send her a pm if she doesn't chime in on this thread. -

Head hunger is a crazy thing. I actually forgot to eat today. I was taking care of my grandson because my DD worked graveyard last night and needed to sleep. He was here all day and is a very busy toddler. I took him home at 5:00 and fed him his baby food and that was when I remembered that I was so busy with him all day, that I forgot to eat. Now that, is a first! -

No, Isn't GERD heartburn? This only happens to me if I think my portion is correct, when in fact it's too much. The new tiny stomach is too full.. Have you ever had your mouth start watering right before you throw up? It's like that. -
Try the unflavored whey protein in something else like sf lemonaide, crystal lite, sf punch, etc. You might have to experiment with the amount of water and the amount of protein powder.

yes, they use the muscular part of the stomach to make the sleeve stomach. It is not the stretchy part of the stomach. It does stretch a bit down the road, but not all that much.

Do things taste different post op?
Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two months out and I never have heartburn. I have a really hard time remembering to take my medicine that you're supposed to take for it, (for a few short months) until your stomach realizes it doesn't need to make acid because most of it is gone. None of my tastes have changed. The only difference I notice since I've had this surgery is that I get really full really fast! -

it's weird. I have the box checked to receive email notifications for lapbandtalk and I don't get emails. I unchecked the box so I don't get emails on sleeve talk and there, I get them. the whole thing is so strange. -
Eating after the Sleeve....
Oregondaisy replied to wannabhealthy45's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am really big on sweets. It hasn't been a real problem since I got my sleeve though. I get so full on small amounts, I feel to full to snack on anything. I usually have a sf fudgesicle sometime in the evening though. -
Putting that DaVinci sf syrup works well to add taste too.

Oregondaisy replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish this had happened to me. So far, everything tastes the same. I still love sweets. I am having my vit D levels tested because one of the symptoms is a craving for sweets. -
um yeah, but there are positions where your incisions will not even be touched!

Are there any low bmi's who talk often?
Oregondaisy replied to annestoy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you are probably in perimenopause where your periods will be irregular until you're done. Everyone says their band is tighter during TOM. All you can do is try your best to eat right and exercise! -

this site is addicting. It will be even better when we get more people on here who aren't so newly sleeved. Learning to eat like a normal person is not easy at first. -
That's good information! Avoid the middle man and get a good deal with shipping included. Thanks everyone for keeping up with this. I think this will be a good thread for new people getting the sleeve!
-
Good job Ruthi! Find someone to walk with and it will be more enjoyable.
