How was your 5:2 day today?

Kelly, I am so glad you checked in! Right when I said I wish you would check in, too! I don't know why we aren't getting notifications for this group. I have to go to the right and click on the little circle next to my name and then click content I follow. I hope you won't stay away so long next time. We all have to stick together. Veterans fighting the good fight! I've gained mine in my hips and thighs. Saddle bags I believe is what they are called. It really upsets me that I had the surgery to get rid of horrible sciatica, and now , it's worse and not better after the surgery. I tried going to gym last week and I was so happy while i was there, but I've paid for it ever since with a lot of pain throughout my left leg and lower back. I just have to stop the snacking completely. It's so easy to pick at stuff and not think I'm eating much.

How is everyone doing 3-5 years out?

I don't think it will hit her. She has been sleeved almost 6 years just like me. I am really not sure why she doesn't gain with all the junk she eats, but I know it's not healthy. She has osteoporosis. She's a size 4 and has been practically since she got sleeved. She didn't even follow the post op diet. She had chicken noodle Soup 3 days after surgery when she was supposed to be on Clear liquids. She never exercises. She is very non compliant with everything she is supposed to do, but she never gains weight. The only thing I can think of is that meat has quite a few calories but then so does a whole sleeve of Oreos. Her daughter may end up with problems. She's only 33 and now she is pregnant again. She only gained 11 lbs with her first pregnancy. She eats healthy food plus junk food, where her mom only eats junk food. I am unlike both of them. I eat right and do well as long as I can stand it, and then I have some sort of binge, gain 4 lbs and go right back to trying to lose it. And the vicious cycle goes round and round.

    sleeve reset was successful

One of my problems is that I can't exercise. I had back surgery which made my back problems worse and not better. I tried to exercise . Last week I was so happy to be back at the gym. Now this week I can barely walk. My back is really messed up. It's depressing that the one thing I really love to do has been taken away from me. I know my problem is night time snacking. I am a night owl I stay up late. It's hard not to nibble and graze all evening long. It's hard but it's not impossible.

How is everyone doing 3-5 years out?

I really could not tell how many calories I ate at my friend's house. She is sleeved and never eats real food. She eats candy and chips and every other junk food imaginable and has managed to maintain at 117. She was sleeved a week after me. When I go over there, I know it's a dangerous place. She is always baking Cookies or brownies. She loves to bake. She has a drawer full of different candy bars. We seem eat a bunch of chips, and then something sweet. Then she wants salty again. Usually when I go there, I am in a bad mood and know exactly what I am doing but don't care at that moment.

    What would you do ?

If you're sure that your tummy is bigger than most people's sleeves, I would do it if I could afford it. My ins. would not pay for it, so it would be out of pocket. You could do the cottage cheese test. Get a carton of cottage cheese and eat as much as you can until you feel really full. then you will have to measure what's left in the carton and you can figure out how much your sleeve holds. I have a 32 Bougie, but I have heard the difference in size was only about a tablespoon.

How is everyone doing 3-5 years out?

I'll be 6 years out at the end of the month. I am really having back problems and have had 2 surgeries since last Nov. I am finding it a lot harder to exercise and it drives me nuts. I would have never thought before that I would ever miss exercising. It's a struggle every single day. There are things that tempt me everywhere I go. Sometimes I give in to a binge and it takes me almost a month to lose what I gained in one weekend. It's a struggle all right. It's one I am willing to fight for the rest of my life though.
  7. Maybe we could share what we eat., and what is sabotaging us. I live alone, so it's really hard for me to force myself to cook just for me. I need to cook a bunch of chicken or something that I could eat for more than one meal. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, sometimes ham around a pickle. dinner there always seems to be to go boxes in my fridge. It's at night that I start with all the grazing. 100 calorie pack of almonds, a Carb Smart fudgesicle. I think they're 100 calories too. Sometimes a tangerine if I have any. It's non stop in my brain "what can I eat?" after about 7pm. I don't know why. I wish they could operate on my brain like they did my sleeve.

It's so hard! Every where I go, people are eating. I just came from a movie. The smell of that popcorn is overwhelming. My friends are always eating Cookies and chips. I go up and down, but I really need to take 10 lbs off and stay in that weight range. I am sick of having nothing to wear.

    Taking Back the Sleeve!

I'm fighting regain. I will be 6 years out at the end of the month and I can eat so much more than I could before. If I were just to eat steak, I would suppose I would not be able to eat as much as I thought. It's all the stuff that sneaks it's way in there from being around friends that can eat and not gain weight. I'm glad that the sleeve helps with portions but it sure doesn't stop snacking or grazing. It takes a lot of willpower now. I want those days back when just thinking about having to eat made me gag cause I always felt so full all the time.

    Need advice

I suppose you're wanting your insurance to cover this. Many of us have gone to Mexico because we receive excellent care there, for a more affordable price. If your insurance doesn't cover it, consider this as an option.

How was your 5:2 day today?

I feel for all of you who have ailing parents. I remember that time as being the hardest times of my life. Even when my husband died from an accident at age 36, watching my parents fade every time I saw them, just broke my heart so much. I kept their house in Arizona for 3 years even though I live in Oregon because I could not bear to part with their things and their house. All of us are dealing with the same thing, weight gain. We are all veterans though. It drives me nuts that I was 139 this morning and my clothes don't fit. How is 135 all that different from 139? It just makes no sense to me that I can barely button my jeans with a 4 lb. difference. I have a very large friend who is contemplating either gastric bypass or sleeve now that Medicare is finally paying for the sleeve. I am telling her of all the complications I know gastric bypass people face down the road. I know so many people who have gained all of their weight back, and deal with iron infusions, and hypoglycemia , who have had gastric bypass. You can definitely eat around the sleeve, but at least we are all healthy! I have to drive 3 hours next week to see a malpractice attorney. I really hope he can convince my first surgeon's insurance company that they need to pay my medical bills. He said he has gone against every malpractice insurance company any doctor can have. I really hope he can help me. I deleted a couple people from the group who have never posted. wish Brown and Sarsar and Kelly from Seattle would would check in!

    EXTREMELY low metabolism

I am really sure the resting metobolic test I had done at the doctor's office is the only true way to find that out. I had to go early in the morning, without eating . I could not exercise for I believe 24--48 hours before the test. Then they hook you up to a machine. They closed my nose with a close pin type think and I had to sit there for about a half an hour and just breathe normally out of my mouth.

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

yes, please! While bad grammar and punctuation do grate a bit on me, I can easily ignore that if there is just some space. I'll admit I just backspace out of posts which are 5 inches long on the monitor with no white space. If in doubt, hit return Now, I don't hold it against anyone who's done this; just be aware that it makes it hard for people to read and you may not get answers as quickly. I agree. If people want their posts to be read, they have to put a space in between thoughts. If they don't know what a new thought is, put a space in anywhere you think it's getting too long!! I can't read walls of text. I am old. I have old eyes. I am guilty of not capitalizing when I should, purely because I am lazy. Thank you for the weird Al link. That was hilarious! I had to post it on my facebook. I have friend who is a grammar fanatic. Cowgirl Jane and Lipstick lady have the best posts? What am I ? Chopped liver? I am only kidding. I don't get around the board as much as I should. It's so nice that this board has grown so much. When I first came on, there were only a few posters. I came straight from LapBandTalk. I could no longer read about band problems once I had mine out.

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

I've been posting on this board for 9 years now. Things are not going to change. I've learned to tolerate almost anything. The only thing I have a hard time tolerating are the walls of text. Please put a space between thoughts. That is not that hard. It's really hard to read a post that has no spaces at all anywhere, and it's a very long post. I have to ignore those.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Yes, I am going to start using content I follow to get here. I just thought nobody was posting in here. Yes I am completely healed finally from the infection but no, the surgery did not help my sciatica. In fact, it's worse. Dancing makes me so happy, but now I must watch the bands more than dance. I can dance a little , but if I keep it up, it's very painful. I went to the gym yesterday and I am determined to get back in shape. I am so sore today from the work out. I just hope this sciatica does not keep me from exercising. My neck needs surgery too which at this point is pretty scary. I do know people whose neck surgery was a lot more successful than their back surgery. It's really maddening that so much socializing revolves around food. It's no wonder all of us are up in weight. It's so hard to have the willpower to stay on track all the time. It's taken me 3 weeks to lose the 4 lbs I gained from having an eating frenzy at one of my girlsfriend's house. I'm back to 140 so I don't understand why my clothes fit like I've gained much more. It's a good thing I didn't get rid of all my clothes when I got rid of all the really big stuff. I've bought some new tops that fit, but I can't bring myself to buy bigger jeans. It seems like such a defeat.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Kim, I'm so sorry to read about you having to put your dog down. I'm glad I didn't have to do that, but my little silky terrier died in my arms after I took her outside and she would not walk, just laid down. I had called the vet but she died in my arms before I could get her there. I haven't had a dog since. It was so painful . I am freaking out over my medical bills. I called my ins. today to find out how much I paid out of pocket for taxes for 2014. I found out they were charging things way over my $750.00 deductible to my deductible. Plus I am only supposed to pay a total of 4,000 and then they pay at 100%. My hospital bill was 24,000 so that should have covered the 4,000 and they aren't paying the bills that are coming in. It's a complete mess. It's a good thing I called!
  17. Oregondaisy

    EXTREMELY low metabolism

I don't know if ins pays for it. Mine would not. I actually had it done by my band surgeon and he let me pay cash half price. I had it done twice. I did it again after sleeve surgery to see if anything had changed. I had been at goal a couple of years at least. It came out the same.
  18. Oregondaisy

    EXTREMELY low metabolism

My metabolism is very slow as well. I had a resting metabolic rate test done. Just sitting around or sleeping I burn 1200 calories a day. The farther we are out from surgery, the harder it is to lose regain. I will gain if I eat anything what so ever that brings me over 30 grams of carbs per day. Dannon Fit and Light has 8 carbs for most of them and they are really good. Chiboni is really good, but at least 20 carbs.

Welcome to the BariatricPal Singles Forum!

Dating can really suck. I met a guy a couple of weeks ago. We really hit it off and spent some time together every day. Last night I found out he has a gf in another town, about 50 miles from here. His friend told me not to get hung up on this guy because he always cheats on his gf but then drives back the 50 miles to see her and will spend 10 days or so with her at her house. I asked him about it and he thought it would be just fine if he kept us both, and I shouldn't get mad when he goes to see her. Good Grief! I may just have to give up on men. There's a reason guys in my age group are single.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Kim, I remember how hard it was when I took my little dog out and she wouldn't walk. She just laid down and looked up at me. I felt so horrible. I can't believe this thread has been going, and I didn't know it. I wasn't getting any notifications either. I have one more week to give myself antibiotics 3 times a day and then I get my picc line out one week.from today. Now all the medical bills from my second surgery and all these infusions are coming to me and freaking me out. My hospital bill from my 2nd surgery is over 25,000.00 I sure hope that lawyer can get my first surgeon to pay all these medical bills. My weight really freaks me out. The scale says I have gained 5 lbs but I'm telling you, I have clothes I could wear many times at 140 and now they feel 2 sizes too small. It must be because I haven't been to the gym since my original surgery in Nov. I've lost muscle and apparently flab takes up more room. I met this guy who is really nice, but has commitment issues. He has several fwb and wanted me to be one too. I told him that's not how I operate. If I am going to have sex with someone, he better not be having sex with someone else. It's too bad, cause I really like him. I met one of his fwb and I am taking her with me out dancing sat. night. I can't drink from my Hep C and I don't even want to drink while I am on these antibiotics, so I might as well be the designated driver. I've been hanging out with him a little bit each day. Yesterday, I told him I wasn't going to anymore because he won't stop hitting on me. So he promised he wouldn't cause I just want to be friends, so he said he will respect that. He's a very interesting person. I know all of you know how I feel. I have 2 drawers of pants I can't wear and half a closet of clothes that are too tight across the belly. I just hate it. And 5 lbs should not be making my clothes fit that way. I was wondering where else you guys like to post ? I need to get around the board more, but I don't want to read about newbie issues. I will be 6 years out next month and I've heard enough of "I can only get down 3 bites and I can't drink water" The veterans forum sounds like most of us are in the same boat. Fighting regain.

TV Shows - What are you watching ?

I have not heard of most of these shows. I don't even know which network they are on. Some are HBO series, which is not on Netflix. I did watch Paenthood on Netflix because people on here recommended it. I loved it. I watched the last season" ON Demand" I was glad I figured that out because Netflix didn't have the last season and I was going nuts. That was one good show! I loved Breaking Bad, but can't get into "Better call Saul" I guess I mostly watch Netflix and binge watch one show and have no clue what's on regular tv these days. I wish I knew what some of those shows were about.
  22. Thanks. I had no idea what it was about. I was never a Dr. Who fan so it's probably not up my alley. I wish I knew more about a lot of the shows people have mentioned.
  23. What is Torchwood about? And can you tell me more about the quirky one Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt?

    Offended? Dating and weight.

Do you even like this guy? Do you hope you two will get together? If not, then just chalk it up as guys are stupid. I think big girl sounds better than fat girl, so he was trying to be polite. But I don't get the sense you even like him, so it shouldn't really matter.
  25. I am going to have to start scandal. It's been recommended a lot.
