Introduction and Concerns
Oregondaisy replied to IGDiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in Oregon which is not far from Northern CA and I flew to San Diego where Ernesto picked me up at the Comfort Inn. I had no trouble what so ever flying home and driving the two hours from the airport to my home, when I was released from the hospital. I am really glad I chose Dr. Aceves. The entire experience was wonderful, and I had so much confidence in him. -

The band is a nightmare. Some days you can eat anything you want, other days you can't eat anything without throwing up. So many things effect the restriction with the band. Most people have a lot of foods they just can't eat with the band without throwing up- bread, veggies, fruits with skin are a few examples. With the sleeve you can eat whatever you want, in small portions. For me, recovery with both surgeries was easy. I never felt like I had surgery at all, other than the first 24 hours. -
I knew you would lose again Deb. It just takes time. Sometimes our bodies just want to get used to the new weight before it's willing to give away anymore lbs.

Question about protein foaming in the blender
Oregondaisy replied to WhiteRice's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Dr. Aceves does not want us to drink anymore than 2oz every 20 min. I mixed the unflavored Protein powder in Poweraide Zero, crystal lite, Hawaiin sf punch, etc. Each scoop has 20 grams of protein. Dr. Aceves said to try to get at least 60 grams per day, plus as much Water as you can drink in between. Most people seem to have trouble getting all that in. I had no trouble at all. My trouble was trying to drink slow enough. I could easily drink 8 oz in 5min . I didn't get that "stuffed" feeling that other people seem to get. After the 10 days of clears, we were allowed full liquid. this is liquid yogurt, regular lite no sugar added yogurt, blended Soups, and Protein drinks. I like the PVL Whey gourmet Peanut Butter and chocolate that you can order from Netrition.com . I also drank Atikins ready to drink, and low carb slim fast. -
Question about protein foaming in the blender

Are you talking about my rate your liquids thread? I used GNC unflavored Protein powder for my 10 days of clears post op. I put it in crystal lite. I am not really sure what you're asking me. I think you should go to the thread where I posted where you can get samples of things to try. Everyone except for me found their taste changed after surgery, so it's best not to buy a bunch of anything. A lot of people bought things they liked before surgery, but they could not tolerate after surgery. -
Another Newbie Sleeved on the 21/9

welcome! Hope you'll post often and keep us updated on your journey. -
I saw a movie today. It starred Sandra Bullock. It was All about Steve. It was one of those that I would call kind of dumb. It was sort of funny, but mostly dumb. I would give it a rating of two stars. One star would be completely horrible. Two stars crumby, but not completely horrible, three stars good, four stars really good.

Issues regarding liquid intake
Oregondaisy replied to Selakah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can drink a 24 oz glass of water with my 12 capsules I take every morning. So yes, you will be able to drink a glass of water down all at once, eventually. You should not drink with your meals. I will sometimes take a small sip with my meal, if I get really thirsty, but I am too afraid of stretching the sleeve which is a possibility if you fill it with liquid and food at the same time. -

I don't know of any disadvantages. There is a whole list of disadvantages for the band and the gastric bypass. I revised from the band to sleeve and I am really happy that I did it before the band did damage to my stomach. -
What do I need to know/expect Post OP?
Oregondaisy replied to IGDiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
they don't necessarily call it dumping, but you can feel really lousy if you eat too much sugar or too much fat all at once. I ate a piece of wedding cake once and got quite ill. I was nauseous, had rapid heart rate, and eventually massive diarrhea. -

welcome! Glad you found us. Just keep trying to sip regularly, and you will notice that it does get easier. -
You could post it in post op questions and answers. I can't answer you because I don't like wine.

With band surgery, mine started out at 4 months and didn't quit until I was 1 yr. post op. I am hoping this time it will stop before that. Mine is coming out quite badly right now.

anyone up for chatting? I will keep the window open and listen for the doorbell in case it's not too late for anyone who wants to talk. -
I lost most of mine with the band but weight loss is much faster with the sleeve. I had my band taken out because I was throwing up in my sleep so I had to keep it unfilled and quickly gained back 15 lbs.

Protein, Protein, How to get in all of my protein...
Oregondaisy replied to debestmath's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh mine is falling out like crazy. I take Biotin and everything anyone has told me to take. I get tons of Protein because I love my Protein drinks. I hope it slows or stops sooner than it did with band surgery. -
Don't worry Deb. You will lose what you want to lose. We all go on plateaus and it's very normal.

Thanks Cajun for the recap. I am glad you're home and doing so well!

Introduction and Concerns
Oregondaisy replied to IGDiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Believe me, I could not get that band out of me fast enough, and only wish I had heard about the sleeve first. I flew to Mexico by myself and had a wonderful experience with Dr. Aceves and staff. I was in the hospital for 3 days, but I spent most of my time walking around outside because I was so bored in the hospital. I felt great after the first 24 hours. It was no problem flying home and went back to work in less than a week. -
1. Any weekend plans? I have a friend who had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago at age 48. She is not cleared to drive yet or do much of anything really, so I will probably go to a movie with her. Sunday I have to go to a baby shower. 2. What (if any) challenges have you had this week? Dealing with Verizon this week has been a big challenge. I lost my cell and called to order one exactly like the one I lost. Twice now, I sat home and waited for the fed ex package to show up only to have the wrong phone arrive. 3. Tell us about a small victory you had this week. I went back to the gym. After getting off the phone with Verizon again, I couldn't get there fast enough. I had taken a break because I had been sick. 4. Tell us something that makes you happy. My grandson makes me really happy. I love his little smile so much when he is really happy to see me.

I was doing weight training/weight lifting for 3 years before surgery and my arms are still gross. I don't have much of a problem with skin in the tummy area though, and I had 2 C sections too.

Oh I forgot about that Vegas. I am so glad I didn't have a catheter. I have enough pain in that area every day from my interstitial cystitis. When I went to the urologist, he used one and it was painful. I am REALLY glad Dr. Aceves doesn't use one. I forgot all about them measuring the output. I remember now thinking that IV the first 24 hours was sure filling that measuring cup!
