As a prospective sleever, what would you have liked to have be told?
Oregondaisy replied to *Lib*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just tell them they will eventually be able to anything they want. It's not like the band where you better plan to give up certain foods forever. They should also know that even though they can eat anything, they can't eat very much of it. Some people get disappointed that the portion size they can eat is a very small portion. -
Seeking a surgeon
Oregondaisy replied to sfvbabygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The majority of us here had our sleeve done by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. We are all thrilled with him, and his staff and the hospital. If you are a self pay, I would not go to anyone else. He is extremely experienced and better yet, he is a wonderful man. -
Band Failed - Should I get the sleeve?
Oregondaisy replied to petepotamus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is someone who had her band removed named Katydid in the tell you story section. She is really upset that after she had her band removed from major complications, she has now gained all her weight back. I don't think you will be sorry if you have the band removed and get the sleeve. Living with the sleeve is so much easier than living with the band. I have never regretted my decision to get the sleeve at the same time I had my band removed. -
I can't wait to hear all about your time in Mexicali. Hope your recovery goes smoothly.

I am happy for you Norma that your time is finally here. Can't wait to hear all about it. I know you will love Dr. Aceves.

I don't think it disappears until you're off liquids and eating soft foods. You can take immodium. -
Otay -- tell me about the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Manatee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have my band too Manatee. It sits on my dresser and every once in awhile I like to look at it and wonder what I was thinking when I agreed to have it wrapped around my stomach. I hope your recovery continues to go well! -
Do you consume more calories than you think?
Oregondaisy replied to Chancie's topic in Food and Nutrition

Oregondaisy replied to Chancie's topic in Food and Nutrition
The nutritionist that comes to my support group who is a registered dietitian says you have to go by your height to determine how much protein you need. She said for me at 5'2" I need 60 grams per day. That is pretty easy to get and I am sure that I get more than that. -
Two days post opp - any advice would be appreciated
Oregondaisy replied to hypn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just don't be afraid to ask us anything. We are very open and try to be helpful. I wonder how long it would take to get the Protein drinks that you can order online. There is a thread in the food section where it lists all the places you can order samples. -
Calcium Citrate - which tastes best?
Oregondaisy replied to i1Linda's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The NSI Orange ones are the chewables I was talking about. They are sweet. I am not crazy about them, but I'd rather chew them up than take anymore pills. I chew them up fast and then drink some Water and it's fine. I will try the ones you're talking about on my next order tiffy. I went to the link you provided and it comes in other flavors too. I never knew they had liquid. I just asked on the phone for chewables, never even thinking about a liquid being available. -

Oregondaisy replied to backtonew1's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Another favorite protein of mine is taco meat. I just make the meat and put sour cream or greek yogurt on it and it's very yummy too. -

have you tried any of the syntrex nectar drinks? They are lower in carbs and some people like them. You can order samples. -
You are going to love Dr. Aceves and all his staff. Everyone that has gone to him has had a wonderful experience there, and I am sure you will too!

Katy, I am glad to see you posting. I hope you are able to get your sleeve surgery like you want. Tiffy had some problems with her stomach from the band and she has been very successful with the sleeve.

help in need of serious protein ideas
Oregondaisy replied to backtonew1's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Greek Yogurt has 10 grams of protein and I really love it. I get the blueberry. Other things I eat for protein are string cheese (low fat) and chicken breast. At 3 months post surgery, you should be able to eat salad. I love to make salad and shred chicken breast on top. Salad goes down very easily for me because you can chew the lettuce up until it's just water. I use low fat dressing and it makes the chicken breast moist. I also eat a lot of chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad. I love tilapia as well. All of these things have a lot of protein in them. -

I can't be bothered with tracking. I ate a lot of junk food over the last week while I was out of town and I was shocked that I didn't gain an ounce. I wasn't around a scale. I am not in the losing phase, and I am sure if I were, I would be a lot more careful. It's nice to be happy with where I am now, almost 6 months post op. -
2nd follow up done now I have questions...
Oregondaisy replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was trying to take it every other day and it wasn't heartburn, it was more like an ache. I know the feeling from having an ulcer. I can totally see how people can mistake it for hunger. -

Oregondaisy replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have not seen my surgeon since surgery. He is in Mexico and I am not. My pcp prescribes Protonix. I have heard Mac say we are supposed to be on an acid reducer for 6 months. I tried the past few days not to take it and my tummy did not feel good. I was taking it before surgery, so I don't see what the big deal is to just stay on it. I had some nausea after surgery and it eventually went away. I have no idea what caused it, or if it was related to surgery. -
Everyone has been telling me to get a fitting at Vicky secrets, so I did while I was in AZ. they told me what I already knew. I am in between sizes. I am not a B or a C They could not find a bra to fit me. I need to look at that brand that has "almost" as a size. It's frustrating! My DD told me to buy a C and buy those things that look like chicken breasts and shove them in there. I am not about to use falsies!
